2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

So #TeamDavydov is now working with Vasil'yeva and Tsibinova as their oldest competitors, right?
There was also Maria Smirnova, thirteenth at the last junior nationals. I haven't heard anything about her in a while :confused2:

They are both older, anyway.

Has probably been posted before in its original English format, https://olympics.nbcsports.com/2019/09/19/alysa-liu-figure-skating-quad-revolution/ , but Russian press picked it up and cited their own;

Alexey Mishin: “Young and very thin girls are the future of figure skating”

Well-known figure skating coach Alexey Mishin believes that skaters should not be prohibited from performing difficult jumps.

“Young and very thin girls will represent female figure skating from these days on and forever. But this is not only about age. The main thing is the size of the body.

Thin girls have much less inertia along the long axis of their body compared to others. So their speed of rotation during jumps is much higher.

Of course, it is possible to prohibit triple Axels and quadruple jumps in women's skating. But this is completely stupid”, Mishin said.

Arutyunyan - about the quadruple jumps in women's skating: “What will happen to these skaters at the age of 40? Maybe they need new hips? ”

The famous figure skating coach Rafael Arutyunyan is not sure that the skaters should perform the quad jumps.

“Let's see what happens with these girls next. Will they do these jumps at the age of 18-19? When their body has not yet formed, and the bones are still growing.

What will happen to them at 40? Maybe they need new hips? It seems to me that physiotherapists should speak out on this topic before a catastrophe occurs”, Arutyunyan said.

Thanks for sharing.

Arutyunyan...I'd like to know his opinion on Plushenko and Yagudin, who both had terrible injuries that were revealed after they retired. Is it ok when it's young men, and the damage is piled on before they're adults, and they have knee, back, hip problems requiring interventions when they're older? Because it seems unfair to only criticize ladies.

Injuries happen in sports when athletes train at high levels. Isn't it the case that athletes see doctors quite often and their overall health is assessed? Even if the children are too young to understand, isn't it the case that their coaches and parents explain that after your career is over, or even during your career, that it's possible to have debilitating injuries? Isn't it possible that athletes know what they're getting into and still opt to be at the top of their sport knowing that later on in life they might have to face the wear and tear on the body? I don't think they're all ignorant of the costs...

anyway just my .02

There was also Maria Smirnova, thirteenth at the last junior nationals. I haven't heard anything about her in a while :confused2:

They are both older, anyway.

I think someone posted on this thread (sometime around junior test skates, if I remember correctly) about Maria Smirnova saying she's done with competitive FS and is going back to school.

Warning, my complete interpretation of this blog contains not only Russian female skating topics but I'll include them for completeness and integrity of the source material.

Vasilisa Davankova: “Now it’s just a personality cult of Tutberidze”

Yekaterina Bespalov This popular video blogger visited SE and talked about why Lipnitskaya and Sotnikova left on time, the phenomenon of Tutberidze's social networks and the injustice of attacks on Medvyedeva and Zagitova

Vasilisa Davankova, born May 2, 1998 in Moscow
She performed in pair skating, then went on to ice dance
Bronze medalist of the 2012 Junior World Championship (with Andrey Deputat)
In 2017, finished her career

At the end of her sports career, she became a popular blogger.
Vasilisa’s YouTube channel, where the ex-skater shows various tricks, has than a million subscribers, she recently received a “golden button” for this from the video portal. Having visited “SE”, Davankova spoke about the main stars of our figure skating, spoke about the consequences of strict diets and the secret to the success of a professional blogger.

With growth, oedema appeared, each training was a struggle

Q: In the past you tried everything: single skating, couples, dances. Why did such changes occur - due to the unrealistic technical level of competitors?
A: Speaking of my transition to pairs, back then the girls didn’t have such a boom as they are having now, back then the men were more likely to win. I just didn't succeed in jumping, I only did only a double Axel. So they said: "Small, thin - go to pairs."

Q: And you immediately became the bronze medalist of the junior world championship.
A: What turned out to be the biggest achievement in our career, as we know now. (laughs) It was almost our debut. Third place was unexpected. But we removed tour medals, went on skating. And then I started to grow.

Q: What difficulties arise with growth?
A: There was more than this. There was no fierce competition, and we relaxed. I decided I should keeping do everything the same way, and not aspire for more. Due to growth, my jumps began to stray. I already jumped mainly due to twisting. There were also small problems with my weight, and my partner was not Hercules.

Q: Can you do something about these problems?
A: You can train, not eat ... But each training then was like overstepping yourself. I got a swelling, I could eat three cookies in a day, and my stomach problems started.

Q: What did your parents say?
A: My parents didn't know. Training, school, training again, and when you come home and tell: "After six I don’t eat". You grow thin, of course, but it was in vain. Then the real problems began in when I was 16-17, when it became scary to do throwing elements. I left just because of that.

Q: And how to deal with this? Psychologists, meditation?
A: I skated with Dobroskokov, then with Moser. The first did not have psychologists by principle. Nina Mikhailovna had them, but then our work went completely awry, and I found out that she wanted to put Sasha Enbert with Natasha Zabiyako. It was easier to move away. And I do not regret it.

I don't see the point in skating for the sake of moving around

Q: Then there was ice dancing.
A: Dancing is a completely different thing. The actual dancing isn't that much different from pairs. Kolya Morozov pulled out everything he could, due to the right steps, costumes, cool music. It makes no sense to switch from pairs to dancing at that age, you will not succeed.

Q: And how many years does it take, for example, to get into the national team?
A: It could take a couple of years before the national team was reached, but what's the point? Just ride? The only progress is that someone pulled out or fell, and you are in third place. I didn't want this, so I left the sport. You need to evaluate yourself objectively. If we take our juniors and those who went into seniors skating this year, they cannot be allowed to quit. They are all unique, with elements, lots of effort. Some are just more lucky in the end. We had athletes who didn't held out. I’m in skating for the sake of skating, without any result, I don’t see the point.

Q: And where is this line when you can leave? After all, many children are led to figure skating from under a stick.
A: I have a personal example, but I came to skating through my brother. He said for a long time: "I want to go into hockey." For some reason, our parents resisted, but in the end, my brother just went - and he played well in the end. Children need to listen. Often because of fatigue, you come home and say: “No more foot on the ice!” If this happens every day, it makes sense to let go. I didn’t have this, I didn’t think to quit until the very end of my career.

And I will send my children to professional sports, because of this is unrealistic self-discipline. This also helps me on YouTube. Many bloggers say they are bored with making new videos, but in principle people are often lazy. For me, this is work, and in this sense, athletes function in a different way compared to other people.

A: What about the stories that sport at the highest achievements is injuries, emaciation of the body? We have had many skaters finish early - Lipnitskaya, Sotnikova.
Q: This is different. Leaving after victories is often the right option. Yuylia and Adelina could continue skating - and start losing. I think leaving was better for them. Yuliya has her whole life ahead, thanks to her victories, and can realise herself in other areas. Just Yuliya is a different person. Not everyone can be Tat'yana Anatolyevna Tarasova, a star.

Stolbova's return will be successful

Q: In figure skating, resonant transitions periodically occur, you also moved from Dobroskokov to Moser. Is this a difficult moment in one's career?
A: It was like that with me - Andrey Deputat went to Vera Bazarova, and at that moment Sasha Enbert appeared. And Sasha didn’t really want to change coaches, so I had to leave. Of course, we discussed the situation. With my mom went to the coach, bringing a gift. But Sergey Vladimirovich reacted a little inadequately. I understand him, he led me from childhood, we have experienced a lot. Now everything is ok. In general, this is a very individual thing. People are different, some of the coaches are jealous of competitors, others are not.

Q: You follow Alexander and his partner Natal'ya Zabiyako? Can they, after bronze at the last World Championship, go to the fight for Gold?
A: Wait, now Stolbova will come! And it will not be clear who is fighting for what. Often the federation throws back the third adult pair, but it is not clear who this pair will be, we still have Tarasov / Morozov.

Q: That is, believe that the return of Stolbova will be successful?
A: I'm sure. I know her, Kolya Morozov. Andrey Novosyolov has nowhere to go when there are two such people next to you.

When current athletes do not have social networks - this is normal

Q: You are a figure skating personality who has a lot of subscribers. Let's analyse together the social network accounts of our skaters. Who is your example?
A: I wouldn't take active athletes, because social networking takes a lot of time. Those who train every day lack this. In a normal situation, you don’t moderate them at all. Although Lisa Tuktamysheva has enough time. But I would single out Lesha Yagudin. He posts regularly, shows where he is doing what. This helps him in his work. Advertising brands follow active people. Yes, Yagudin is an Olympic champion, but there are many of them. And Alex with the help of social networks shows: here I am, guys.

Q: And what about Plyushchenko then?
A: I am not subscribed to him.

Q: And to Gnome Gnomich?
A: No. (laughs) I don’t subscribe to children at all, it’s somehow mega strange, in my opinion. But it’s useful and correct from the perspective of his mother (Yana Rudkovskaya). He already has an audience. There is someone to sell themselves as a brand. I just don’t know how he feels about it. But if you take it wider - the children have long left Insta, are now on TikTok. Short videos to the music. This platform needs attention.

Medvedeva needs advertising contracts

Q: If athletes do not have social networks, how to popularise sports? And isn’t, for example, Yevgeniya Medvyedeva active on social networks?
A: How it should be: posting twidc a day.” And preferably a useful, informative, conventional post - how to distinguish a Flip from a Lutz. And 10-15 stories a day. Zhenya may not upload anything for a week when she practices. This is not called 'active use of social networks'.

Q: Coach Eteri Tutberidze also rarely posts, but there is some resonance.
A: Now it’s just a personality cult of Tutberidze. Everyone watches her, everyone fans her. Tutberidze in this case is already like a star, actor, singer.

Q: Is it worth it to be more active? Maybe not for her personally, but for the Sambo-70 school, which could promote its brand?
A: The question is why. With the involvement of people, they are doing well. Monetization? If they want to sell something or someone - then it is necessary, but in our sport this is not, we aren't soccer.

Q: Do not you think that now is the time to try to attract private sponsors? Figure skating is growing, but it is not visible that the federation, and most athletes, will take advantage of this.
A: It depends on the managers of the skaters. As far as I know, sponsors go more actively to the athlete. But as a rule, no one has the time, people do not understand that this is necessary. There is money from the federation, why is there something else? So Medvyedeva got a manager, so everyone ate her right away. Although for an Olympic medalist the presence of a manager is normal. Moreover, as far as I know, she pays for accommodation and skating in Canada herself. She needs advertising contracts. And people in the comments think this is bad.

Q: It was similar to Anastasia Tarakanova. She wrote that she needed a sponsor, and tons of a h@te arrived. Or Zagitova, for example, was criticised for mistakes in her posts and the mismatch of her social network status with champion status.
A: Listen, the girl is engaged in figure skating, and she is excellent. God forbid she even finds time to read books! Still, she is still a child. It's no secret that athletes neglect education. It is impossible to go to every training and do some computer programming. H@ting her is in vain. She develops sports, she is the pride of the nation.

Rising to the level of Ivleyeva for real

Q: Do you think there are any blogging formats possible for a figure skater at national team level?
A: Combined with professional sports it will definitely not work. On my channel you can watch a 10-minute video, and behind it are 10 hours of work: an idea, assembly of structures, shooting, editing. Plus, it’s difficult to promote a singular profile channel, a figure skating blog will only be watched by the corresponding audience and only Russians. It will turn out not very many viewers.

Q: At the beginning of your blogging journey, your godfather helped, right?
A: A friend opened a startup, not very thought out, but with money. At first I wanted to shoot about fashion and beautiful clothing, but I didn’t stop there. I began to make life hacks for TikTok, they began to collect half a million views. And on Youtube there are bloggers who stubbornly continue to shoot something that does not 'hit'. This is definitely not worth doing, you need to try and look. Plus, in six months the popularity of even the most popular content begins to decline, so you need to be prepared for change.

Q: Is it possible now to rise to the top level as Nastya Ivleyeva from scratch and with a minimum of funds t?
A: Sure. Now there are several bloggers who add 10-20 thousand subscribers a day every day, although they just shoot something at home and make fun of it. What is the secret to the success of a blogger? There are simply people who I want to look at, it’s both luck and the ability to interest oneself, and not always with highly intellectual content.

Adults h@te on young skaters

Q: How do you like the fan rush around figure skating now?
A: Everyone considers it his duty to write in disgust about someone he doesn’t like, and why not write well about someone he likes?

Q: And what to do with this, close the comments?
A: I didn’t care at the age of 13, now. But there are vulnerable people who will think: why did they write so about me, I tried so hard? It is necessary to grow a very thick skin. The important thing is how you work and perform, comments should never affect your skating. It’s not the fans who judge your performances, but the judges.

Q: How are you with ill-wishers?
A: I have a very loyal audience, although not everything works out. But if you read the comments under my videos, a rainbow will shine over you, and the tears of a unicorn will run down your cheeks. Everyone writes that they love or something like "I was in a bad mood, but looked at you and smiled." It is very nice, it turns out, I bring people happiness. In theory, from the routines of skaters, there should be the same effect, but it carries everyone in the wrong direction.

Q: Maybe the whole point is that you have no principal rival in blogging?
A: We do not have competition, we do not select subscribers from each other. In sports, there is only one Gold medal, and we have gold Youtube buttons as much as you want. There will be enough audiences for everyone. Also in figure skating: someone loves Medvyedeva, someone Zagitova, but just writing “How I love Zhenya is cool” or vice versa is not enough. Maybe for fans this is an outburst of emotions like smashing a plate against a wall or going to fire off. It is bad that girls who bring medals to the country and are its pride suffer from this.

Q: According to your observations, h@ters of skaters - who are they?
A: They are definitely adults. The age of the audience is easy to understand from the text of the comments. Often the latter are written with a bunch of errors, not because of illiteracy, but because they were written by 10-year-old children. And when you see a detailed commentary with all the punctuation marks, which also develops into an integral thought, then it is from an adult.

Forever "bad" Medvyedeva

Q: Can audience loyalty be somehow obtained?”
A: It takes a lot of time for a blogger to communicate with subscribers - read thousands of comments, crawl through threads, hold fan meetings and sign autographs. But a skater doesn't have to like everyone, he must show himself on the ice. You can also give toys thrown onto the ice to orphanages. But even if Alina or Zhenya hold a meeting with subscribers, none of their ill-wishers on the network will come forward and say in person: "You are a bad skater."

Q: But Medvyedeva still became a big irritant for fans ...
A: Due to the fact that se moved to Canada, but kept skating for Russia and is training at my own expense. What else does anyone need from her? She went to the world championship last season instead of Tuktamysheva? In sports, there is always an element of injustice. Zhenya went and brought back a medal. But this is also bad, no matter what she does now - everything is bad.

Q: Share a life hack from a blogger with a million subscribers?
A: To have an idea: challenges, pranks, life hacks - just off the top of your head, but you need to distinguish something from your general trend. To be a blogger on a 5/2 schedule? If you shoot reviews, it’s possible, but editing will still take a lot of time. I came to self-sufficiency only after a year and a half, although at the same time I studied at Moscow State University.

Q: If one of the skaters asked to appear in your videos, would they take it?
A: No. The second person must also be a media person in order to exchange audiences. Just taking someone is ineffective. Yagudin? My audience of children does not know him; he is like a historic figure for figure skating fans.

But doesn't Arutyunyan coach Stephen Gogolev? I know Stephen didn't learn the quads under him, but Arutyunyan doesn't seem to have any issue with having him do quads in competition despite not being extremely consistent with them. And he is younger than Anna and Sasha. I don't want to accuse him of being a sexist person in case I get an infraction or something, but he sure is making himself sound like one.

:palmf:

I love how she gives Hanyus 4Lo and 4s each with major step-outs "effortless throughout", but thats something she can't spare for Trusova's 4lz or 4t combination. Totally unbias :). And how she says that Trusova's 4ts are "not over 180 PR but close to being over" so she takes a -2.... or how she gives Hanyu's 4t "matches musical structure" but not Trusova's... this is a nice comedy read. But how dare those judges give Trusova a higher technical score than their god got from from completely different judges at a competition across the ocean in a different discipline... :slink:.

https://www.another site.com/r/Figu...andra_trusovas_nepela_memorial_free_skate_vs/

:palmf:

Lol why are they getting so worked up about a skater whose score could never harm their "two Olympic champion and possibly the best skater in the world." It's getting to the point where they basically trash anyone who dares achieve anything better than their beloved idol. I dont know maybe its stems from irritability that this 15yrs old girl has landed her clean quad lutz ahead of their idol . (yeah incoming trusova quad lutz wasnt a quad lutz whatever)

Has probably been posted before in its original English format, https://olympics.nbcsports.com/2019/09/19/alysa-liu-figure-skating-quad-revolution/ , but Russian press picked it up and cited their own;

.....

Can you tell what is meant by "picked it up as their own"? Did the articles not credit the original article by Phil Hersh with the quotes from Raf? That would be unfortunate, IMO.

@Mathman has started a thread on the Phil Hersh article with those quotes, where they can be discussed:

Phil Hersh chimes in on the quad revolution

Rafael A. has been saying this for years, and I suspect many of the responses will be the same boring whataboutism I've been reading for years:bed: at least it could be directed to what Raf said there. :)

Figure skating is preparing for a duel Zagitova - Trusova. This is the main battle of the season.

Dmitriy Kuznetsov The best junior in the world is already ready to take away the titles from the Olympic champion.

The first competition week of the season in senior figure skating immediately brought Russia world records, victories in the “Challengers” of Aleksandra Trusova and Anna Scherbakova, second places of Yevgeniya Medvyedeva and Yelizaveta Tuktamysheva and exchange of views: is Alina Zagitova able to maintain leadership in such conditions?
Trusova will become her main rival, if force majeure does not happen. It is interesting that in just two weeks, these two girls from the group of Eteri Tutberidze will meet face to face in one tournament - Japan Open. True, a) it is commercial; b) they will play for the same team - Europe against Japan and North America.

Trusova - Zagitova - half time 2: 1

It is possible there are contests within the Khrustalniy branch of Sambo-70, but Alina and Aleksandra have met three times at official competitions, and so far the younger figure skater is in full-time confrontation - 2: 1. Their first joint performance took place already in February 2016 in the beautiful area of Bibirevo - at the Moscow Championship among older children. But then neither Trusova nor Zagitova fought for the victory. Viktoria Vasil'yeva became the champion among the Candidate Master of Sports girls, who did almost beat Alysa Liu at the junior Grand Prix stage, Trusova was ninth (166.38), Zagitova twelfth (160.31).

At the 2017 Junior All-Russian Championship, Zagitova retaliated by taking Gold (216.82). Trusova remained 5.5 points from the pedestal - 194.60. Finally, the last meeting that everyone remembers took place at the 2019 Russian Championship in Saransk, where neither of this couple could win. Aleksandra, with a score of 229.71, lost with an incredible 0.07 point to Anna Shcherbakova, Alina was then at her most difficult moment of decline, but she became fifth overall and second among adult figure skaters (212.03).
In general, this confrontation has a story, but it still has to be told and written down. By the way, in the arena, the partners talk about each other only a little - which leaves us also room for discussion here. Unless Trusova once remembered that Medvyedeva and Zagitova taught her to jump, Alina taught her a cascade with a Rittberger (which did not work out in Slovakia to the end).
Based on the videos that are on the Internet, they communicate well - as much as possible as any rivals in figure skating. And they dance well together.

We will see how relations will develop against the backdrop of direct competition at senior level. Zagitova and Trusova will be meeting face to face in the near future, no earlier than December, when the Grand Prix finals will be held.

The current record is not the limit of Trusova

238.69 points achieved by Trusova in Bratislava may very well be archived by her new achievement of authorship. Firstly, we recall the mistake on the Lutz – Rittberger cascade, where the last jump turned out to be a double, and this is a few more points. In terms of components, Aleksandra set a personal record, and it was precisely this that made it possible to interrupt the result of the more experienced Sambo-70 student. But even if we compare with the best performances of the last season in juniors, then Aleksandra had higher or similar ratings for certain indicators in the components. Yes, this is one tenth, but there is definitely room for growth.

And Trusova is absolutely not going to stop at what has been achieved in tech. She already warns she will think about four quads at the next competitions, before that she promised a triple Axel this season. She loses a certain proportion of marks due to unusual physical requirements - a free program in seniors lasts longer by 14% compared to juniors. As she gradually gets used to this, it is possible to complicate the ending of the program using the Stirlitz principle of "remembering the last" and encouragement in the evaluation.

How will Zagitova answer?

Is there a method against this crowbar? Apparently, Alina’s general mood is to move towards art, a better interpretation of images. In any case, she specifically made it clear that there would be no quadruple jumps this year. We don’t seem to expect a triple Axel either. Due to more complex cascades, you can win back several points - add a turn to a Toeloop, but a breakthrough will not happen. All non-jumping elements of Zagitova are already at maximum complexity.

But the problem is that, due to another part of Zagitova’s assessment, almost nothing will come out of it. If you take her best performances of the last season - then her marks for all five component characteristics were 9.1. In her record achieved at Nebelhorn, in the free program, four out of five - 9.4. This is also where a traditional specialist in terms of components, Yevgeniya Medvyedeva rarely succeeds.
At the World Championships, Zagitova showed a result of 237.50. The lowest grade in the components was skating skills and connecting elements in the free program (9.11 and 9.14). Even if we assume that Zagitova will be given the maximum for these and gain three-tenths here, in terms of the total it will be less than a point (0.96). Of course, in such dense duels this can be a decisive moment - but Trusova’s resource is much more extensive. She did not have a mark above 8.3 in her record program.
Zagitova will surely retain the advantage in components until the end of the season - now she is gradually moving into the category of “mature female”. But without complicating her jumps, you can fight Trusova only with psychological pressure, which can make the 15-year-old skater making mistakes. These statements, albeit involuntarily, rather press her on.

In the end, Zagitova won everything possible in her career. Maybe she deserved a gentle regime, and not the pursuit of this quadruple flip. And on the other hand, all the calculations on paper in favour of Trusova can instantly melt in hot ice conditions. Mistakes, fatigue, social pressure - over the long run this will come into play. And then it turns out that the advantage of the "Russian rocket" is not as cosmic as most of us think.

This excerpt cited only their 'own' people, Russian language speakers Mishin and Arutyunyan, which isn't uncommon on those channels.

You can make of it what you want of course :-)

Oh, I completely understand that Russian media would want to cite persons of interest to Russia, that happens everywhere

I was just saying that I hoped that they gave credit to Phil Hersh for getting the quotes, as in "As Rafael Arutyunyun said in an interview with the US Olympic Channel" or "As Rafael A. said to Phil Hersh" rather than pretending that he spoke directly to whatever press outlet in Russia is publishing this.

That's all :)

Thank you; I had thought these interviews or opinion pieces were written or conducted by journalists or newspapers.

Clearly I do not understand

The Russian Ladies are such a big nest. I have tried to list them thinking how this season would end. Not easy.
I have not included juniors that are not eligible for seniors next year.

1. Alexandra Trusova - she is the dragon to slay this year
2. Alina Zagitova - will rely a lot on PCS and she needs to be clean
3. Anna Shcherbakova - this can go either way. Can she hold on and shine? Those low scoring judges at Lombardia was a bit worrying.
4. Alena Kostornaia - we haven't seen her yet. Maybe she can overtake both Anna and Alina? Or not. And what will the judges do with her PCS? Big questionmark for me.
5. Elizaveta Tuktamysheva - with no WTT with generous scoring this year, I doubt Liza can get much more than she did at Lombardia.
6. Evgenia Medvedeva - I doubt she will make the world team, but if she does, she will probably end up higher.
7. Ksenia Sinitsyna - Has improved a lot this year. I hope she will get a CS.
8. Anastasia Gubanova - needs a CS obviously. In my mind she is always good!
9. Alena Kanysheva - desperately needs a CS. Is she doing RC seniors group stage?
10. Viktoria Vasilieva - she's been looking strong so far
11. Stanislava Konstantinova - surely she will improve on that unfortunate skate from Nepela. She looked strong at TS and at Aurora.
12. Ksenia Tsibinova - the surprise at RC1. If she gets a CS she might do something with it.
13. Anastasia Tarakanova - for sure she will q for senior RusNats. Can she get to JW?
14. Serafima Sakhanovich - after a few disappointing years I think she looked strong at RC.
15. Maria Talalaykina - desperately in need of a CS.
16. Sofia Samodurova - can't really see her score more than 190s-ish. Looks like she has growing problems.
17. Anastasia Gulyakova - didn't do well at RC1. But she is better than that.
18. Elizaveta Nugumanova - hopefully she will q to RusNats. She's such a lovely skater.
19. Alena Leonova - needs a CS. I expect her to do the RC thingy.
20. Anastasia Gracheva - are probably already out of the mix for Rusnats, but she so has potential
21. Maria Sotskova - after 18 months of really not good results, Maria was at an all time low in Bratislava. I've lost hope.

The Top 18 is the ones I expect to see at Russian Nationals
And I am expecting more surprises at RC Group Stages 2-5, so there might be more ladies in the mix.

I don't think they're all ignorant of the costs...

anyway just my .02
You make a pertinent point about why no one talks about male skaters and injuries. Plushenko and Yagudin eally suffered in their careers and after.

That's a really good list it's hard for me to even dispute it.

Is anyone else bothered by Davydov's remarks? Vasilieva is struggling with her weight. Tarusina was tired of the endless dieting. What's going on in his camp??? I was bothered a few weeks ago in an interview where he said he demands total submission from his skaters. I'm not sure he's a coach I'd send my daughter to.

I'm sad to see Anna retiring so young, but the writing was on the wall as far as her competitive prospects. Sometimes it's just better to face reality and cut your losses.

I'd say nothing different from any other trainer who trains athletes at the highest level. "Take it or leave it", "work hard or get out" at your own discretion, which goes for any athlete.
IMO, a person best make clear choices for himself, either sports or education, in their youth.

Obviously we are more worried over this because most female figure skaters, like gymnasts, are children who we think need (our) protection.
But at 16, Anna Tarusina, finally made a decision, which apparently was on her mind for quite some time already. If making all these sacrifices doesn't bring you joy (and results), why continue punishing yourself?

In all coordination sports weight is important. Some athletes struggle more than others in maintaining shape and weight. Anna always seemed to be a top fit athlete, very well trimmed physically, but we don't know how much perseverance and hard work in conditioning this took?

Sinistyna and kanysheva are not old enough for CS. Sinistyna is already qualified to junior nats through her jgp performance so should she miss the JGPF I think she will try and qualify for Senior nats through senior RC (Like I think Tarakanova and possibly Vasilieva is going to do).

Kanysheva however is not qualified to either nats because she missed the jgp so her best bet if she gets well in time is to do the junior RC and qualify for junior nats (should not be a problem if she is well enough to skate) and have a chance at JW which is her only chance left to get on the SB list and get a GP for next season. Therefore Im fairly shure we wont see her at senior nats (Unless RusFed decides to substtitute her in randomly).
