Perhaps on inspection more internal damage to her knee was discovered, just before Test Skates?
A pity, since she was a solid and reliable competitor.
And she was the oldest of #TeamDavydov’s pupils.

Of course a trainer regrets having to say goodbye to a pupil he and the team have known for years and raised to this level.

Devastating news. I had high hopes for Tarusina this season.
it's a shame because she had this devastating injury and the car accident in France three years ago which set her back big time. Yet Anna T was a respectable fifth in the last Russian Junior national championships and 8th in the Russian senior national championships. More than respectable since she had to deal with 3A in both competitions.

Who knows maybe this season off will give her a burning desire to come back next season. oh that's probably slim chance at this time. Maybe Polina retiring at 17 has started a trend. Sad. I wish Anna T well of course. but it really hurts to see talented young people retiring because of injury or loss of interest or being overwhelmed by such incredible competition from the novice level to the senior level. Its unreal with Russian girls and ladies.

I'm always so sad when someone retires at such a young age. :sad4: I can't help but think that we will see some more retirements this season. It's getting too crowded in Russia.
(Well, this is a cheerful first post here.)

Lack of perspective cannot be ruled out in these early retirements.
If you’re studious, have a good mind and are not afraid to put maximum effort in your academics, best fully apply yourself, instead of trying to make it in a sport at this crowded level like in Russia and Moscow specifically. Parent's money can only one time be spend, so paying for studies instead on skating makes sense.

It’s probably best to pursue academics when you’re still in your mid teens tather than early twenties like those older skaters that now find their chances at winning even minor tournaments have diminished significantly.

All the best to Anna Tarusina. Wishing her all the best in health and success in her future!

(She seems very smart. One time I was looking up her SB and in her ISU bio she had listed "studying physics" as a hobby. Surely she has a very bright future ahead of her, though of course it is sad for us because we only know her as a figure skater.)

I agree with you. Or rather you agree with me. ;)

Figure skating is truly a very beautiful sport but it's also a very brutal sport. It takes a toll on skaters physically and mentally.

Davydov: Vasil'yeva is struggling with her weight and is preparing for the stages of the Russian Cup

MOSCOW, Sep 25 - RIA Novosti, Anatoly Samokhvalov. Russian figure skater Viktoria Vasil'yeva is solving the weight problem and intends to successfully perform at the stages of the Russian Cup to qualify for the National Championship, her coach Sergey Davydov told RIA Novosti.

Vasilieva, who will turn 16 in November, took second and third places, respectively, at the two stages of the junior Grand Prix of the current season. Last season, the figure skater became third in the Russian Cup Final, losing only to Yevgeniya Medvyedeva and Yelizaveta Tuktamysheva.

“We’ll go to the stages of the Russian Cup - most likely, to Kazan and Moscow to make it to the championship of Russia,” said Davydov over the phone. “Vika has problems with her weight that we are struggling with. She was able to get in shape for the stages of the (junior) Grand Prix, but the problem still exists, and it’s most important. In all other respects, there are no problems."

Fifteen-year-old Ksenyia Tsibinova, who came to Davydov from coach Svetlana Panova during the off-season, won the first stage of the Russian Cup in Syzran. "With Kseniya, we will try to get her in the "Challengers", if there are places and we will be allowed. In the meantime, we are preparing for the second stage of the Russian Cup and learning complex elements - a triple Axel and a quadruple Toeloop", said Davydov.

Tarusina announced told her coach about finishing her career

MOSCOW, Sep 25 - RIA Novosti, Anatoly Samokhvalov. CSKA Moscow figure skating coach Sergey Davydov told RIA Novosti that his student, Anna Tarusina, had stopped training, which in fact means ending her career.

Under the guidance of Davydov, sixteen-year-old Tarusina last season took 5th place in the Junior Championship of Russia and became 8th in the senior championship of the country. On Wednesday, in her Instagram account, she announced that she would miss the 2019/20 season due to injuries and study.

“She told me that she no longer wants to do (figure skating) and that’s her decision,” Davydov said over the phone. “Her motives are - it's so hard, she can’t stand it anymore, following this eternal diet.”

According to the spokesperson of the agency, in fact, the skater ended her career. “I think this wording is correct,” he said.

The specialist noted that in such situations, he always gives the athlete time to think. “We always send them home to think this over, but it’s not about a small child in this situation. And Anya came to this decision over a very long time. She said either yes or no. She made this decision, I can’t do anything about it”, he added. "We always regret it, because we spent so much time and have done so much work. Of course, it's a pity for our efforts, but that’s life."

In the 2016/17 season, Tarusina and Davydov were involved in a car accident in France, heading to the venue of one of the stages of the Junior Grand Prix. The athlete needed an operation and a long recovery, after which she managed to return to the ice. "We put a lot of things in your work, but the person has made this decision and I cannot interfere," - said Davydov.

Upon reading this, maintaining competitive shape and weight is very difficult when your body isn't this lean and thin shape by nature. Following a diet, or even limiting your food intake and only eat proper and healthy food requires a strong mindset.

So #TeamDavydov is now working with Vasil'yeva and Tsibinova as their oldest competitors, right?

So sad to hear the news regarding Anya's situation. She is one of the skaters I was looking forward to watch this season, the passion and fire that she always brought on the ice are unique!

I wish her all the best for the future, and all her dreams to become true! :agree:

Send her to Ice Star!! There is only Sofia there!!

It worries me that Alina seemingly isn't going to Ice Star Challenger. That was her last chance before her Grand Prix's begin. It puzzles me.

Has probably been posted before in its original English format, https://olympics.nbcsports.com/2019/09/19/alysa-liu-figure-skating-quad-revolution/ , but Russian press picked it up and cited their own;

Alexey Mishin: “Young and very thin girls are the future of figure skating”

Well-known figure skating coach Alexey Mishin believes that skaters should not be prohibited from performing difficult jumps.

“Young and very thin girls will represent female figure skating from these days on and forever. But this is not only about age. The main thing is the size of the body.

Thin girls have much less inertia along the long axis of their body compared to others. So their speed of rotation during jumps is much higher.

Of course, it is possible to prohibit triple Axels and quadruple jumps in women's skating. But this is completely stupid”, Mishin said.

Arutyunyan - about the quadruple jumps in women's skating: “What will happen to these skaters at the age of 40? Maybe they need new hips? ”

The famous figure skating coach Rafael Arutyunyan is not sure that the skaters should perform the quad jumps.

“Let's see what happens with these girls next. Will they do these jumps at the age of 18-19? When their body has not yet formed, and the bones are still growing.

What will happen to them at 40? Maybe they need new hips? It seems to me that physiotherapists should speak out on this topic before a catastrophe occurs”, Arutyunyan said.

I mean, she has Japan Open coming up next weekend. I know it isn't a full "competition," but it's something.

Davankova - on the attitude of fans towards Medvyedeva: “What else does anyone need from her? Now, no matter what she does, everything is bad.”

Former Russian figure skater Vasilisa Davankova spoke about her attitude to the h@ters.

Q: According to your observations, these h@ters of skaters - who are they?
A: These are definitely adults. From the text of the comments its easy to understand the age of this audience. Often the latter are written with a bunch of errors, not because of illiteracy, but because they were written by 10-year-old children. And when you see a detailed commentary with all the punctuation marks, which also develops into an integral thought, then it is from an adult.

Q: Can audience loyalty somehow be obtained?
A: It takes a lot of time for a blogger to communicate with subscribers - read thousands of comments, crawl through some threads, hold fan meetings and sign autographs. But a skater doesn't have to like everybody, he must show himself on the ice.

You can also give toys thrown onto the ice to orphanages. But even if Alina or Zhenya hold a meeting with subscribers, none of their ill-wishers on the network will come up to them and say in person: "You are a bad skater."

Q: But Medvyedeva still became a big irritant for the fans ...
A: Due to the fact that she moved to Canada, but kept skating for Russia and training at her own expense. What else does anyone need from her? She went to the world championship last season instead of Tuktamysheva? In sports, there is always an element of injustice. Zhenya went and brought back a medal. But this is also bad, no matter what she does now - everything is bad”, said Davankova.
