2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Ksenia totally deserved her marks today and I’m glad the judges are finally appreciating the quality she brings to the ice.

And remember when comparing with Kamila’s scores - that was her 1st event of the season vs Kamila’s 2nd. She looked more confident and secure throughout the program today, which is normal since she got the first program of the season under her belt in Russia. The real duel will be at the final, where if they skate clean I expect Kamila and Ksenia to be a few points ahead of the rest.

And Kseniya's programs are totally unique and original both on quite peculiar themes, real good choice by #TeamPanova to set their best skater up this way. And Kseniya has the quality to match the staged images and skate them out to perfection for she is just that tad bit older and mature than the 13 year olds from #TeamTutberidzeForProgress. Kseniya's serious facial expressions show she is in complete emotional control, but you can spot her playing to the judges too, so she is confident of her delivery.

People on Instagram said that Sasha jumped 4Lz, 4S, 4T3T, 2A, 4T, 3Lz3Lo and 3Lz1Eu3S (in that order) in her run-through today! I can't verify it, but it isn't unrealistic given that this is Sasha we're talking about.

Sasha dear, the paint on your recent record hasnt even dried yet and you're all ready to smash it down again.

I think Ksenia is a very unique skater. She has the technique, she has the artistry, and somehow I think she also has this Butyrskaya-esque maturity and diva star quality. Can't wait to see her as a senior next year.

Amazing skate by Ksenia today! I think she can contend for the bronze at GPF or even silver if alysa doesn’t do well.

When Kseniya enters senior ranks, she seems quite ready for seniors, for this is hardly 'child's' skating, some other still young seniors can pack up.

She is already snr Rus Nats eligible?

Uhh how many men have a bigger planned base value these days? She doesn't have a 3A but does 3 3+3 combos, so I assume not so many guys aim for better than that.

Russia, stop tormenting me. Every time one of your skaters becomes my favorite, you send out a new one who becomes my favorite. Kseniia is really fantastic.

Yes she is! And if she qualified for the JGPF tomorrow, she will be going to Senior RusNats! She would be an amazing addition to an already unbelievably deep field. Its too bad Kanysheva can't qualify, because she also would've been an amazing addition. Anyways, Sinitsyna was just amazing today. I wonder whether she'll go for the 3A in the free? She has a really nice cushion for first, so a fall on a 3A wouldn't be a disaster. Plus, she has shown that she is able to recover well after a mistake (whenever she falls on the lutz-loop she always comes straight back up and does her other combos beautifully, even improvising if she needs to). But on the other hand, she might just want to play it safe and lock in that JGPF berth, and then try out the 3A at a Russian Cup event. I think that it would be a good idea to try it at the JGPF though, as there she will be facing the fiercest competition.

Totally agree. They have done an excellent job of packaging this year. Her maturity sets her apart from the rest of the field. (Junior field that is)

I think she’s actually a dark horse to place higher than expected at JGPF...remember last season when everyone thought the gold was between Sasha and Anna and Aliona ended up prevailing? With Kamila and Alysa trying such high risk elements, a solid all around skater, who IMO is currently better than both Kamila and Alysa on all aspects besides quads/3A and equal on spins, might prevail or grab a silver.

This year She will be at the championship of Russia. GPF is admission to this tournament.

Is there videos of her doing 3A in practice?

Ksenia's SP is one of my favorites this season. The choreography is exquisitely planned, with her confident execution carrying the program to nearly 75 points in the SP! She doesn't have the TES to compete with Kamila and Alysa, but Ksenia has a decent shot if either of them do not bring their A-game!

She and all the other Russian skaters are working on triksels and quads, but most haven't got rid of the harness yet. I assume Kseniya is no exception. If any ultra-si element is added to a competitive program it has to be solid and reliable, honour demands it.

If entry into Snr Rus Nats is guaranteed, indeed best try the triksel in some Russian Cup stage before JPGF. It is solid come December, why not throw it in JGPF to get this advantage?
Condidering Liu and Valiyeva fight for the Gold and Silver, Bronze could very well be possible, but there are Usachyova and Lee also competing and whoever qualifies in sixth.

All six finalist clearly earned their qualification and new life, new chances, so the competition is open and will be down to nerves: who is able to hold herself together best while delivering the goods wins.

Sinitsyna will prove she is cool under pressure, but so has Lee ...

On the other hand, remember that Kamila is two years younger than Kseniia and is the girl on whom the biggest pressure lies ("She is the one chosen to beat Alysa"). She has to deal with all this and at Chelyabinsk it was her second entry, but in front of the home crowd with highest expectations and after the first entry where she won but stayed behind expectations. Kamila did not have it easy and won't have it easy in the finals as well.

I can’t wait to see the ladies skate at the Japan Open!!!! I’m on eastern time in the US, what time do the ladies begin? I have to watch it right away or else the videos will probably be taken down.

Oh yes! And regarding maturity - Kamila will totally get there. Just look at how much Ksenia improved since last year! I almost couldn’t believe it - she was great last year but looks like a totally different skater this season.

Kamila’s popularity as a junior is of course unprecedented so it may be a bit more difficult for her as she develops in the spotlight, but really looking forward to seeing her next weekend at the Denis Ten memorial to see where’s she’s at in her training now!

well well well..the tech panel here is really something!
Looks like no one was in a good shape here, it was quite hard to watch everyone if I'm honest,
but the scores were dropping like crazy!

I really liked TC work there, tbh. What's wrong with that? At last skaters will know on what things they should work in future - as their mistakes were pointed out to them properly. Unfortunately we became unused to it - so it can look to us as something awful while in fact it's just normal. Well, still far from ideal though - unless they begin to mark PCS scores for all skaters on a lesser side too.
I'm quite shocked they did that, good luck to Shanghai with getting participants for this event next year.
On the contrary - skaters like En Soo Lim will be attracted to comps with such strict judging. It's only real mean to shorten the distance between common skaters and artificially made leaders. And the distance there was small - she had real chance of winning - which wasn't possible in any other competition so far, btw. That, and decent sum of prize money is what continue to keep attractiveness of that competition on high enough level in the future too, I believe.
