Daisuke Takahashi

O, that's unexpected :agree:

2010 World champion Daisuke Takahashi has announced via his official website that he will be competing in ice dance with Kana Muramoto who previously partnered Chris Reed. He will give a press conference in Japan on 30 September.

It is true Dai will be switching his discipline to Ice dance in January 2020.
That man never ceases to amaze me. Best of Luck to him!

Am fully occupied with Rugby World Cup since last week. Tonight I was watching the usual 7pm news in between Italia-Canada and England-USA matches while eating a quick dinnder, and all of sudden THIS. 'OH MY GOD!!!' I screamed! :drama:

Has anyone got this information beforehand? I remember when I watched this on TV https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2RfuaaEncA I saw Kana there and wondered why a bit. Then realized Kana was added to the Hyoen cast and I thought 'Good for her.' The scret was there already. :)

Daisuke Takahashi saving FS by joining ice dance.
What can I say? Lucky Kana Muramoto.
It would be an honor to always skate with Dai, side by side.
Does it mean Dai will be doing some lifting stuff? :yes2:

I'm still in shock after reading the new:shocked:
So, this year will he compete in singles or will he switch to Ice Dance in January 2020?

:jaw::drama::reye::dbana::dance2:

Never a dull moment.

This will be Dai's hardest challenge yet. (Does this explain why his arms are so toned? Maybe he's already started lifting weights?)

All the best to Kana and him! I'll be along for yet another rollercoaster ride.

Never a dull moment.

Yeah, that's our Dai! Dancing on the floor, acting and singing, now ice dancing!

(Does this explain why his arms are so toned? Maybe he's already started lifting weights?)

That is exactly what I thought!

Good luck to Kana and Dai. I'm sure I'll miss him as a single skater because he is such a unique performer and there is no other like him, not one even close to him. But I also look forward to seeing what they will bring on the ice as a team. Like he made men's skating very popular in Japan, they may make ice dance popular and more young skaters be interested in ice dance.

What would be their first competition? Lake Placid perhaps, because they will train in Florida?

He will compete at Sectionals and Nationals in singles and then switch to ice dance in January, as you said. :)

:agree:

They have the potential to be well matched on the ice with a decent amount of practice. They're both charismatic performers and Dai has the basics to learn the intricacies of ice dance even this late in the game. I'm sure they will keep their goals humble and take it step by step. On the other hand, I will definitely miss Dai in singles too.

Good question. Competing at Lake Placid would give them about 6 months of preparation. I can't estimate how much time it takes on average for a new team to gel, especially if one of the partners has no prior experience in the discipline.

It'll take some getting used to seeing them together!

ETA:

Insta update by Dai. Kana and him went to watch fellow Hyoen performer Kazuki Namioka in "Gozen":

Let's see. Junior team Utana Yoshida and Shingo Nishiyama debuted their FD at Prince Mikasa Cup on June 8 this year. Shingo had not started his training as an ice dancer on January 27 because he was competing at National High School Championships as a single skater although they had already announced their partnership. There were only a little more than 5 months between the two competitions.

LOL Dani. No one answered your question because no one knew. Now we do. :)

Oh it's fine, I figured as much :laugh::laugh::laugh:. It's just... he definitely answered it now and in a big way:eeking:!! I am thrilled to see him in any capacity. I was about to feel regretful if I didn't go to worlds and he actually was there. Now I won't quite have that regret if I don't ultimately make it.

Thanks so much. This version is much better!

More FoI videos.

Btw, the official Fall out boy twitter account tweeted about Dai's Phoenix performance at FoI!

It's more glam rock than fun punk but, hot damn, I'll take it! (Where's the fire emoji when you need it?) The eyeliner is topnotch too! The only downside is that we can't marvel at his beautiful biceps anymore...

Another great pic of Team Japan plus Charlie White from the latter's ig stories:

So happy to see my beloved Dai skating in Carnival on Ice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDHHuS07UDI His performance starts about 51:19

One of the commentators said he wasn't feeling well. That may be why he popped the axel and looked exhausted even before StSq started. Some people have pointed out he was a bit cautious, too.

He's been very busy this summer, spending the whole July for Hypen, and flying to LA to have the SP choreographed in August and performing in Friends on Ice, and announcing his switch to ice dance.

Dai7s performance w/o commentary
https://youtu.be/qM0avaqQe8E

I watched the performance live and the speed of ChSq in the encore was amazing.

There was an announcement that he will have ice shows from Jan. 10 - 12 in Yokohama.

Sheryl Murakami, who choreographed the program was also at the show, and that was her idea to put eyelines on him He said he's not sure yet if he will wear them at competitions.

Thank you for the videos of Dai's performance! :luv17:

Thanks for the report! Lucky you! :agree:

Dai looked quite exhausted during the interview too. Hopefully he isn't coming down with a cold. (At least he's got plenty of time until he competes.)

Guess they were referring to this?

[*]And he will have another completely new show in January! Unlike XOI and Hyoen where he already took the lead, this new show seems to be dedicated completely to him!

https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1678317428972482&id=317966388340933

Remember how Shizuka once suggested he should do a one man show to thank his fans? He was doubtful back then that he would be able to entertain an audience all by himself. Now it seems like he reconsidered the idea. Maybe this is his way to close the chapter as a singles skater, a sort of "farewell" and thank you to the fans who supported him all these years (and in a way the closure he couldn't get after Sochi), as he embarks onto his new journey in ice dance?

Do you happen to know more about it? :)
