I've been watching the few programs that we've seen skated in the challengers etc this season. I have not been inspired or excited by any of them. And then there is Jason.... Even without seeing the jumps and the full program, all I could think of is that Jason is possibly the greatest figure skater of all. His edges, his musicality, his grace and yes, his power are all there. No one else does what he does. Other skaters skate to the music (or not) but with Jason the music and the skate are one.
I took a friend to the Internationaux de France last year - she'd never been to a figure skating event before and didn't really follow the sport beforehand. She was fairly neutral about all the other singles skaters there, but commented that Jason definitely had "something really special" that put him above the others, (and she could see why I was such a big fan).
I've just realised that the third of three snippets contains no jumps, but/and is totally mesmerising. (IMHO, the truly great skaters can completely draw you in without the jumps).

Jordan's video was made long before Jason's concussion and only shows a couple of jumps and not all the spins. It's pure skating and it's breathtaking. There are precious few skaters who could draw the viewer in without the technical bells and whistles. Too many skaters are just skating around between jumps and spins. Jason skates every second of the program and stays in character and intensity throughout. He's amazing. This video shows how much more mature a skater he is and what superior skating skills he has. It's stunning! And there is every indication that David understands Jason and his skating better now.

I think it helps that David W. knows more about Jason, but I also think it helps that Jason apparently chose the music, or at least was enthusiastic about the choice. He's not talking himself into Simon & Garfunkel, but *wants* to skate to Schindler's List.

Ted Barton rightfully said "At the end of the day, out of 4 minutes, you would be in the air for like 15 seconds. The rest, is performed ON the ice. By filling it with beautiful contents, that makes you a complete skater."

Thanks! :luv17: It's mostly thanks to Jason's awesomeness and the photographer who caught that perfect moment with good lighting. I'm studying gesture these days ( for the 100th time) his pose was perfect for a study of clothing movement and arms.

Let me tell you, I keep looking at these cheap flights to Vegas next week, $80 round trip. I have no SKAM tickets, no hotel room, and there's even a chance we might be road-tripping across the country at that time, in the opposite direction, and I still can't stop thinking about going.

I'm just back from Boulder CO, have no money and feel exactly the same way! Tickets will be available. Hotel rooms, I don't know about. That could be a problem. But I'll be watching live on Gold wishing I was there!
Vegas is full of hotel rooms. If you can't get one at the Orleans, you can stay at one on the strip. It's pretty easy to get around using ride-sharing services.
I should fess up and say I'm going. I'm doing both SkAM and SCI this year because I was able to take some time from work and the logistics worked out. It hasn't really hit me that it's coming next week because I've been SO busy with non-skating stuff in the last few months.
I really didn't expect the prospect that practice will be the first time ANYONE will see Jason this season but life presents twists.
I should fess up and say I'm going.
I'm doing both SkAM and SCI this year because I was able to take some time from work and the logistics worked out.
