2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

It will be interesting to see who will win the SP, if Kostornaia doesn't add her 3A I think she might be behind Zagitova but not by much. Alyona has the quality and the PCS to stay close to Alina, more so than Sasha or Anna

Yuzuru is... Yuzuru. What an incredible young man. Named Anna, Aliona, A. Kanysheva and Kamila there too!
Rika was also very complementary about Alexandra, she said she started a new wonderful era or something like that.
Not trying to make any nationalistic generalizations, but even remembering Rika and Kaori's reaction to Elizabet's 4S, I have got a feeling that Japanese skaters have a very respectful and incredibly appreciative attitude towards ladies jumping quads. It's so lovely to see their sportsmanship and the level of humbleness, generosity and honor in every little comment and gesture.
They are a true definition of an athlete.

Any link to that? Pretty please? :)

I remember Kaori giving Sasha earnings she made herself when they were in Japan in summer, this was very sweet of her

Matt is doing a nice promotion for Sasha at his own Instagram!

This what I'm talking about. This is why we need music with lyrics and modern songs (especially OST) in figure skating. This is the exposure our sport needs!

Thank you, Sasha and Eteri team for excellent music selection this year! A fresh breath in figure skating fo sho.

Wow! A real promotion here:hap93: also, I heard a rumor that Emilia Clarke commented on the performance too, don’t know whether it is true, though:) but wouldn’t that be awesome

Yeah, real promotion. Matthew Bellamy gonna pick up some more subscribers now))

The rumors about Emily Clark are just rumors. Created by one of the tabloid in Russia.

Thing is Russian skating Fed has sold exclusive media rights to Channel1 (1tv.ru) for a good money. So that's why we see so much figure skating and cute fluff content with Russian girls there on the biggest TV network. Federal national level. Those video snippets about team Eteri and Zhenya and Liza are totally nicely done. Professionally made. They went totally NBC-style in the 90s when figure skating was super popular in US. Many American figure skaters made a fortune back then and become millionaires on media appearances alone. So, 1TV of Russia is making money now on commercials and media rights and sponsoring Rus fed & Russian skaters at the same time. Monetizing Russian and world's attention to their skaters as we speak now. And this deal is exclusive. So the rest of the Russian media is out on the cold, they are on an info diet so to speak. So that why tabloids are starving for some figure skating content and inventing those gossips and rumors. Sadly.

So apart from some sour and dour fans, most professionals in the sport and media and even some in entertainment complement Aleksandra with her accomplishments, she is transcending borders, making figure skating hip again, attention worthy and more exposure will get more children involved, which is good for the sport as a whole and its future.

Not the first time (by far) skaters used his music, however the first time Matt showed this kind of appreciation to a skater.
I guess, Trusova has more in her than her quads. Certainly, she drew the author into skating better than anyone else before :)

The one that comes to mind is Yulia immediately :) great feat for Sasha to possibly get similar recognition worldwide

Now we need him to remember about Alyona Kostornaya next weekend!

She is skating to his music too. And it is an OST as well.

I guess Matt heard about Sasha’s breaking world records with his music first, so Aliona has to make a splash as well for that to happen :cool14::hap85: I have faith for her as well haha))

I haven't seen the full NBC commentary, but based on that clip the American commentators seemed pretty positive about Sasha. And Weir's husband is Russian so not sure where this idea came from that they are anti-Russian.

I never watched Game of Thrones, but I love the music and it is perfect for Trusova.

Alina and Alena will have a tougher road to GPF, I think. If they switch places at both comps, they'll both be in with 1-2 each. If they place the same at both comps, 2-2 is also enough. The difficult competition is NHK because they both have to beat Rika which is possible, but they have to be very clean. There is no doubt that Rika is the strongest competition of all the non-Russian ladies. This is what confused mw about Alina being at NHK; she had first choice and chose NHK when it was certain that Rika would be there, along with another top Russian. I know she loves Japan and Japan loves her, but I think the better choice would've been Rostelecom. Rika would not be there as the fed would not have wanted here there, and they would also not put Sasha there with Alina (but even if they did there would just be Sasha and no Rika). Yes, there'd be another Russian, but it would be a guaranteed 1-2 (as guaranteed as it could be) for the Russian ladies, one of which would be Alina.

This is not to say I don't believe Alina could win gold at NHK. I just think there was an easier option without both Alena and Rika (or any Russian + Rika) who are very strong skaters, and she had the first choice being WC. Alena, Anna, and Sasha didn't have a choice in their assignments as they were not on the podium at Worlds.

That being said, given Liza and Evgenia's placements, 2-3 would probably enough for GPF.

Zagitova has several sponsors in Japan so it's probably better for her money-wise because she can go do events for her sponsors in Japan before and after the competition, and she's not facing either Shcherbakova or Trusova and their quads.
