One of the problems with measuring popularity based on YT views (or other platforms) is that there will allways be more than one video showing the skates both on YT and other platforms as well as some of them being geoblocked for certain regions.

As Im not russian and dont know how russians watch Figure skating I have no idea if Russian channel one is an accurate representation of russians in general. I will not pretend to know which figure skater is the most popular in russia since im not russian and dont know anybody that is. My problem was mainly that only views from a certain comp is not necessarily an accurate measure of popularity since there is so many other factors (that are hard to specify and account for) that infuence it. I would also like to point out that popularity of something or someone varies between gruops even within a contry (I would imagine especialy one as big as Russia) and what is true in your group (age, frids, area) isnt necessarily true in all groups. So the question of who is russias most popular figure skater may have different answers depending on who you ask and they may all be correct in one way or another.

Unless you can find all videos of every skater at one event and make sure that all of them have the exaxt same geoblocks one cant get an accurate measure of how many people have watched a certain skater.

For example for one comp I might watch one group live in the stream another skater (that I for some reason couldnt see live) uploaded to instagram and a third on youtube. But if you watch views on YT alone you will only see me watching only the third skater and not the first two and it will tell you nothing of my preference.

there might also be that for one skater there is only the isu uploded video versus another skater that has 10 videos. Comparing then only the isu videos are unfair since many skaters may have watched the second skater in any of the 9 other videos. But at the same time it is also unfair to compare total amount of views since skater two has 9 more videos that YT can suggest to people and therefore get more exposure.

In gennerall I would say that the comcept of popularity is pretty useless since it is fickle, everchanging and hard to define in any meningfull way. It can and will be vary in diffent places for different age groups and every other categorization of people you can come up with. It may matter in terms of marketability for sponsor but then views on YT is far to generall to be of any use anyway.

I am a nerd and therefore likes data but we must be carefull not to read to much in to it and I dont like it when people use it to put one skater down in comparison to another.

Zhenya already has a good SB from Challenger Autumn Classic. She is safe to get two GPs next season.

Sure it is fairly easy to do it for youtube. But can you accurately account for all other platforms that people use? Instgram? vk? twitter? National streming services? People who watch it live on televison? etc
I certenly couldnt and if you dont you will lose out on important information since different groups may perfer different platforms and one person may use several platforms interchangably.

You are correct!

It is on NBCSports' page that Sasha's skate is also not uploaded (whether it is blocked or whether it was not uploaded, I am not sure), but Anna's is thankfully there.

So? Julia liked horses - Julia had problems - Ergo anyone who likes horses will have the same problems as Julia did? Is that it? If so, quite honestly…. get a grip.

She isn't in a position of skipping nationals ... and I don't think any russian lady can skip nationals with the risk of falling behind... but I agree her motto should be land a 4 ..

I love horses and some of my family has ridden to their great pleasure. But there has been mishaps too. My niece got thrown off a horse a little over a year ago and broke a bone in her back. She fully recovered thank God and is now an assistant coach for the riding team at a college and doesn't ride horses as much as she used to My stepdaughter got thrown off a horse a couple years before that but was just shaken up. We were very thankful for that good fortune. But if tiny Alyiona who is much tougher than she looks butwho may weigh only 80 lbs gets thrown off a horse even just a minor injury could alter her career. That is a very scary thought. I hope she's careful. But in a way this only makes me respect her even more because she is not just a skating zombie she wants to live life to the fullest and we all could learn from that. and she allegedly wants to be a neurosurgeon some day as well.

I can't wait to see Alena vs Alina later this week from France. This will be one of the highlights of the season. Fans of both which many of us here are will be pulling our hair out.

Those horses were full size premium breeds, not very suitable for a beginner. Alyona aunt owns a decent (dressage?) horse and rents a box in some good stables. Alyona being so small and slight best starts with a matching size pony of warm blood, equally slender and agile, light on its feet as her rider. But only later, Alyona says so herself. Now her life is all about figure skating, winning competitions ;-)

There probably will come a new Zagitova clip too, to crown 1TV's promotion for the Grand Prix series.

I hope to not see you complaining about people being unfair to your favorite skater in the future considering your unfairness and piling on
