2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Let's be real, Liza's season was going to end at Nationals regardless of how she skated here today. 4A are scoring way too high for Liza to match. Realistically, Liza's main aim would be GPF.

Contrary to the general sentiment, I don't see how her shot at GPF is over? She's within 3 points of the silver medal position. She has two 3A's for crying out loud. Obviously she needs to be clean to make it, but so does everyone else. If everyone else (Satoko, Young) skated super clean, I'd say Liza's done for, but they didn't. She blew a good opportunity to lead in the SP, but the competition is far from over.

Alina and Rika are honestly irrelevant to Liza's GPF chances at this point. If they both implode, obviously that frees up spots for Liza, but that's unlikely. We can just assume they'll make it, but even then that does not affect Liza. Liza's contending for a spot against You, Satoko, and Bell.

Tuk just lost her chance for the gold and a GPF ticket. bye

She had lost nothing. Nobody lost anything in China. Everything will be decided tomorrow. Everyone has a chance.
You showed once again that she never knew how to jump 3A qualitatively. And she has nothing to do in GPF. There will be serious ladies. The Junior has to work on herself. We wish her good luck at the world Cup.

Sonia with 2A in the second half.... Or was it my imagination? Mishin's path to victory raises questions.

she let a cushion within an SP max score of 76 out the window
its over. Satoko and Bell I think will fight for a bronze in CoR and one will be in GPF

They don't need bronze. Especially Bell. Go through Tennel. With such a weak field, they will fight for silver with Zhenya.

That is why Tuktamysheva is out of the GPF, because he not only needs to skate cleanly, but he needs all those on top of it to be wrong; but it is even worse, because not only does it need to be the second one, but it needs a super score so Bell or Miyahara doesn't overcome it by points in Rostelecom and NHK.

Messing up the SP disadvantages Liza greatly, but it's way too early to say she's out.

Let's use math - Satoko scored 130.14 at her most recent FS (US Classic). Young scored 139.27. Liza scored 138.69. If we repeat all these scores in the FS tomorrow, Liza wins the silver  Satoko can clean up her issues and retain her lead, and Young can nail her 3A to climb, but that's contingent on their success. They both need to be CLEAN, which they are definitely capable of, but the chance is far from guaranteeing Liza is out.

If Liza nails silver here, Satoko (if she claims bronze here) and Bell can still stop her at Rostelecom. Evgenia with a silver (definitely capable) can roadblock them and help Liza through. There are a lot of factors and I don't think Liza's GPF chances are super high, but it's premature to say she's out of it when the FS hasn't even started

Not sure what’s going on with Ksenia, is she having some problems with her coaches? They seem to be distant.
To be honest, it didn’t look like she wanted to skate at this event, she looked indifferent to the scores, to everything.

Mishin skaters have been super screwed so far this season.

I can understand Liza's score cause she made mistakes and it's the SP.

But Sofia Samodurova's score should have been on par or closer to Amber Glenn and Satoko Miyahara:

- 3f-3t, the toe looked clean to me.

- GOE were very low even on elements that deserved more like the 2a was from a nice spread eagle entrance, and yet lower GOE than all the top 6 here.

I don't know, I think Sofia's score seemed fair. Everything looks like hard work to me and that affects the GOE's. Right now, I think her limit is to score around 125 in the free...unfortunately.

Love this SP by Anna. Don't like Perfume but I like this music and Daniil managed to create a dark and foreboding atmosphere with this program. My favorite SP of the season.

I love this program too. In a perfect world where I decide all the scores (), I would have Anna in the lead with about 10 points. But the judges are a bit...hmm stiff it seems.

Everyone here just forgot about Konstantinova. At home with a home audience she is able to light and mix cards on the podium.

Yes, I was thinking that too. Wouldn't it be great if Stanislava surprises everyone and finishes a solid 2nd after Trusova!:yahoo: She certainly is capable of it.

Last week the ice was too wet, this week it seems to be too hard. Men's SP was also a splat feast. The ice was so hard it looked to be made for a hockey match.

I think you can honestly say that about all of the ladies - they all have known for about 2 years that Shcherbakova and Trusova were doing quads and especially the last year it was pretty clear that the quads were something they were going to compete with as seniors, but it seems that none of the skaters that were seniors already really started training a quad until this past offseason so they are still learning them and learning the stamina to do them and do them with the rest of a FS program.
It's unbelievable that these kids could still be getting better and you did point it out getting greater stamina as time goes by. I don't think puberty will hit any of 3A hard the way it did for Alina and others (Nastya). Nationals will be even crazier this year than last year.

Only just catching up with the SP, wasn't able to watch it live.

Anna had a great SP, much better than Skate America. I still much prefer her FS and very much have my fingers crossed she can nail those quads again.

Liza... oh dear. Sorry to say but when the jumps are not working the program only highlights her weaknesses more.
Fall on the 3A
2T on the end of the 3F combo...yet another layout switch.
I love her but TeamMishin failed her I think, while it is normal to tweak and improve programs as the season goes on...thid goes way beyond that. It is as if her programs are permanently unfinished and raw.

Sofia, best she's skated so far this season but it's not enough. Jumps are a struggle, low and tight, she's fighting with her new body.
