2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

But didn't ISU approve a new 'rule' that TP can't consist of people from countries that have a realistic chance to medal at that particular event? It was decided only for Worlds though, but maybe the same applies to smaller events. So there is a high probability that we almost won't see American, Japanese, Korean and Russian controllers and specialists at any major events.

He is suggesting that there are never Russian judges!

Liza with a good 3A and amazing Lutz lost to Satoko with not a single rotated triple in the competition.

I think the focus should be on improving technical side of Tukltik's skating. I don't believe in PCS, regardless of what she can put on ice, it is not going to increase significantly. Therefore the focus needs to be on the technique. Since she does have some problems with jumps. I guess the only real solution is to consider skating with a lighter body

I never implied that. As long as they land their quads and triple axels they are off-limits within the current rules. What one can do is just spoil the mood of Anna and her team with 5 edge calls at one competition. It is broader. The season started with 2 world medalists Alina and Zhenya and Liza, the winner of the last competition of the last season joined by a powerful trio of youngsters. With Lizbet missing the season and Rika injured 6:0 at GPF was a clear possibility if things judging wise went as they went last season.

One can attach the label "conspiracy" to this theory. For me it's just logical that many at ISU and federations were very unhappy about this possibility and did all that they could to not let it happen.
Exactly. I’ve tried not to contribute to these discussions because I know they will get absolutely nowhere. But it makes absolute sense to me that while the Russian skaters (namely Eteri’s 3A crew) are still winning, they are not being favored by the judges as much as before. You could say Russian skaters are being subject to closer scrutiny by the judges, mostly because they have been so dominant for so long. It is what it is. I just hope there are no longer arguments from posters for a PCS increase for “skating while Russian.” That used to be the complaint in previous years.

LISA has not realy a chance to get high PCS or GOEs, because she is nominaly only number 5 from Russia.
It would be very unfair to have 6 girls from Russia in FGP.

You could say that, but that would not be an example of a logical argument.

Here is an example of a logical argument:

All crows are black.
My pet George is a crow.
Therefore George is black.

But ...

(A) The Russian ladies got quite a few adverse calls from technical panels lately.

Therefore, (B) the reason for this is that many people in the ISU want to hold them back.

Statement (B) may be true or it may be false, but it does not follow from (A) by any chain of logical inference. It is just conjecture.

I don't agree with that being unfair, because if they all deserved it then why shouldn't they be?

The problem with this sport is, if you judge Mijahira or Tenell with the strictness of Sherbakova level, all their jumps are 1 or max 2 rotated.
So if you judge correctly, we get 6 girls from Russia in the FGP and this would be unfair to other countries.

Then those countries have to try to beat them to reach the final, it is that simple.

Nobody has beaten Anna, Alyona or Sasha. Alina was second only to Alyona.

Only a small number of other skaters have managed to medal.

That's their problem if they don't reach the final.

The domination of one country is against the spirit of international tournaments.
If you get rid of 3 quotes per country like tennis, you will get a TOP10 from Russia every time, when you consider their talent base.
God bless ISU for a "creative" and "selective" judging.

See my explanation.

Some may have Russian origin

Just as someone is claiming an Italian living in USA but Italian on the ISU listings is somehow American and biased towards Americans.

Hilarious like that too?

Everything that is more on the east than Chemnitz is practically Russia, right? While so many people in my country are trying desperately to prove that they are in fact as much western as Germans, the people from "true west" still see them as comming from somewhere behind Ural. Just one of those mysteries of life. But the funny one

IF you judge correctly Lisa would beat Kihira anytime.
Mijahira and Tenell cant do 3 rotations and are very slow when you consider skating skills.

The Russian ladies are doing great. I only really follow one, but I know enough to know how well they’re doing:agree: so if someone is a fan of Russian Ladies overall, they should be :dance3: and :hap85:.

Now, when it comes to skating, I am not a fan of countries, or of coaches, so that kind of personal pride doesn’t register with me, but that’s just me. it is certainly not a source of pride to me as an American that Frank Carroll is a great coach. Or that the current World gold and bronze men’s medalists are American. That just doesn’t register. I take pride in individual skaters:yes: so jumping from Point A (don’t like the call) to Point Q (bias) based on fear or jealousy of countries/coaches/whatever will not be persuasive. Again, that’s just me

And although folks have been wuzrobbing for particular skaters based on judge’s nationalities since 1971, (me too, but Toller wuzrobbed:biggrin:) in today’s world, that’s much harder. The summer comp I attend in Philadelphia usually has Natalya Ponomoreva has the tech specialist. She represented Uzbekistan, but she wasn’t born there;) She coaches at the rink three miles from my house.

I don’t think Natasha has any preconceptions or biases based on her birthplace, her world travels or where she now lives. and I don’t think that about any other judge either.

I have Polish origins with some Russian, just saying.

Now you're just trolling.

I think the ISU made a very wise decision to fight against the russian dominance.
Lets be honest, nobody wants to see a top 6 only from Russia.
When you consider MONEY, sponsors etc, then there is something like an unwritten rule, that USA and Japan gets their spots.

I wouldn't mind an all Russian final if all of them deserved to be in it, by the rules then I am sorry but who cares what other countries don't like.

They need to up their game

Anyways ... my bets our quadzilla, quad queen is going to show us a new world record next week. :)
And my other bet is that the difference in points between 1st and 2nd will be bigger (much bigger) than 20 points, fingers crossed!
