Jason Brown

Men's short is 5 AM Friday EST. I hope Jason skates in the 2nd group. Men's Free is at 5:15 EST on Saturday. Should be done by 7:30 or so. Those are probably the only two competitions that I'll be able to watch live. I have a heavy schedule this week, but I am ignoring everything but skating during those two time slots. Really, really hoping for two great skates! I'll have the competition thread open and hope to read comments from all of you before and after the skate. Meanwhile, we'll all be waiting for some glimpse of Jason between now and then! We know the stands will be packed and the energy level will be very high. And I hope that Jason doesn't skate last or right after Yuzu, but he'll cope with whatever he gets.

I love Jason but that is 4 am for me. I’ll watch as soon as I get up.

Are there any practice reports for Jason available anywhere?

According to the local fan he did a solid run-through except 4T, which he just skipped. So is it official that they changed the layout and decided on going for 4T??? Oh dear... :palmf:
They also said he has changed the direction of his finishing pose, now collapsing towards the judges, not away from them as he did in SkAm.

Well, he always preferred doing 4T to 4S. Maybe it just clicked in practice so they decided to make the change. It sounds like he had a solid run through, which is good, even though he marked 4T. One of the Japanese fan page tweets said he “tried” (Twitter translation) quad several times but didn’t say how it looked or if he fell or <.

The way I look at it, since they changed one of his combos to 3Z-Euler-3S (avoids possibility of zayak if he pops 4T) they must be pretty committed to the 4T, which suggests he’s doing well with it. Of course there’s no guarantee he’ll land it here, but if he wasn’t doing well with it in training, I think he would just start trying the 4T at official run throughs but wouldn’t put it in the program yet. Maybe based on what he’s doing in training they’re banking on the fact that if popping 4T is his only mistake, he will still be able to hold rest of program together, score pretty well, and end up placing 3/4 - which I believe is enough to qualify for GPF.

Who knows. :)

On another note, I was really sad to hear that NHK streamed the official practices but only group 1 (Yuzu’s group) for the men - and all they did was follow Yuzu around. I guess it’s not surprising considering how big a star he is there - and NBC did pretty much the same thing during the 6 minute warmups with Nathan during SA (they did show everyone in official practice though). I feel like the choice by both NHK and NBC was a bit disrespectful to the other skaters, even if I understand why they did it. :(

ETA it looks like he tried one 4T and fell.

I know he really wants to go for the quads but I’m not sure if it’s such a great decision for NHK? I think skating clean as a whistle is the best strategy then go all out at the final as there’s nothing really to lose.
Then again, he was doing quad salchows at practice for SkAm so he may not actually be putting them in his programme...
He’s determined to stress me out tomorrow 😭

Did I miss something? Isn't 3 triple toes a no-no under the Zayak rule? My anxiety level has just upped a notch even thinking about the quad and Jason in the same sentence.

It says he’s doing three triple toes. :p

The same user Tavi linked above also tweeted that a different attempt after that one looked close (thanks to interspector’s translation) https://twitter.com/sctmb2o14/status/1197405081638850562?s=21

Thanks for that info, Mrs P! Weather is awful here so I was in a rush to catch train instead of driving and missed that one.

On planned program content, it looks like they didn’t change the 3Z combo. Also they show him doing solo 3S which I assume will now change to 3F.

Looking forward to SP. Not looking forward to getting up so early tomorrow (3:00 am), but I think it’s even worse for you, no? Thankfully I’m working at home tomorrow and after my second call is over at about noon I’ll be able to relax, if only a tiny bit. :)

I rewatched Skate America and Jason did 3F as his 2nd jump :
3A+2T
3F
3A
3S
3Lutz +3T
3Flip +2T+ 2Loop
3Loop(popped to 2 Loop)

I’m guessing the current layout could be

3A-2T
4T (?)
3A
3F (?)

3Z-1L-3S
3F-3T (if he pops the 4t he’d switch to 2t)
3Lo

And yeah the men start at 2 am for me. And I’ll probably be up earlier to watch ladies. Who needs sleep??

You are quite right! That solo 3T is probably a 4T if they feel that he can land it. I guess we'll know when he skates. I'll be a nervous wreck, but hoping for the best ever birthday present on Saturday from Jason. Quad or no quad, just a really great skate!

Wishing Jason well tomorrow! Though I'm currently on the east coast, we're guests in someone's home, so I won't be watching live (as if I would be brave enough to watch anyway ) Also sending good wishes to all his fans watching. Kill it, Jason!
