2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

You know, it makes the days where people said that „Trusova will never learn 3A, her 2A is bad, she has bad technique and that’s why she can’t learn 3A“ even more funny now.
Oh, even back then I thought her 2A was excellent, but people kept saying she won’t nail it.

Her 2A in the SP last week was stunning, and how we all knew the 3A training was going well!

Cup of Russia Stage 5 - the final one

After the short:

1. Serafima Sakhanovich 73.47 (I don't know what she's doing here, she has already q'd for RusNats)
2. Anna Frolova 69.16 (needs to finish 5th to q to RusNats)
3. Anastasia Tarakanova 68.32 (playing it safe here, moved her backloaded combo to the front, needs to finish 5th to q to RusNats)
4. Valeria Shulskaya 67.16
5. Anna Sidorova 61.13 (had an unfortunate fall on the 2A)
6. Anastasia Kolomiets 59.05 (I just love her, but she has no chance to q to RusNats as she was only 7th at her first event)

Looks like Frolova and Tarakanova are set up nicely to grab the last two tickets to RusNats.

I wonder if Talalaykina has hired Sakhanovich to compete here? Shulskaya and/or Sidorova needs to finish at least 3rd to have a chance to kick out Talalaykina, but it seems Sakhanovich might be the one to block them out...

Scratching my head over Sima too...wanting to compete as much as possible and continue to improve her scores? It does her no harm to be there and scoring that in the SP.

Fingers crossed Frolova and Tarakanova make it, it looks like they have it in the bag unless they have total disasters

Is this actually what was said? Alyona is a smart girl, she knows how to make Eteri smile.

yes, but one has to listen really carefully, and some lip reading might help too. These trainers know every word is being recorded, every gesture analysed, so they often behave like sphinxes, posing riddles to the unwary spectators.

Will Eteri Georgiyevna give an interview after GPF? She is even more silent and enigmatic than a sphinx ...
But this already monumental achievement is in need of some explanation, and when in chance the Terrific Trio sweep the GP podium, let alone the Russian Nationals ...

Aliona: now all 6 are ours! :)
Eteri: yes :)

That is a beautiful moment that not only demonstrates the success of this coaching team and skaters, but Alyona's charm, personality and sportsmanship to include all the achievements and not just her own.

Eteri's answering smile and clear pride and admiration for her students was lovely too, she's not the wicked witch people make her out to be.

Yeah, I think it’s lovely that it shows their team spirit. I’m sure she’s happy to be first, but she’s also happy for their achievements as a team. They’re rivals, but also, friends, they support each other and help each other.
Alina helped other girls with advices for Lz-Lo, I’m sure others do the same.
It’s just lovely to see their warm relationships.

It shows what can be achieved by still moderate means and outlay but with complete dedication, meticulous attention to the small details and continuous drive to improve, in both adults and children applying the Tutberidze Effect to the fullest. For these are the 2004 born girls, 2005 is still only Kanysheva (?) but 2006 is again a strong year with Valiyeva, Khromykh (who seems to fall into her own now) and Usachyova, then 2007 with Akat'yeva and Petrosyan, and younger years still unable to compete internationally. Everybody learns by watching, competing, laughing, crying, fighting together.

Next season will be interesting, with only 1 new senior addition, if Kanysheva is back to full strength, but it would be too much to ask from a single rink to fill a podium with fresh skaters each year.

Just for reference, combining their best scores from both programs across different competitions. I added a little potential possible total to reflect what they could score if they went clean.

Obviously if clean, Sasha dominates with her quads, but she will need to land the 4S cleanly. Without it, she's at danger of slipping below Alyona. Alyona's massive SP gives her enough of an advantage to withstand the quadsters. It also helps that she receives massive GOE and PCS, which in addition to the 3A's keep her more than competitive. She will need to securely land those 3A's to challenge Sasha though. Anna has been weak in the SP, but scores massively in the FS. Judges have not been willing to throw her high GOE or PCS yet, so she stands at a disadvantage there. Alina if perfectly clean will have enough judge backing to challenge a slightly off Anna. Anna has yet to score over 230, which Alina can do (but not yet this season). Zhenya is already near her score ceiling due to a mandatory 3lze call. Without proper lutzes, she can't score well enough against the other score maximizers. Her PCS can rise some more, but will be nowhere near enough. She can only play the spoiler if everyone skates poorly.

This analysis is very true.
