2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

That's a huge accomplishment in ladies skating imo. Liza proved its not just young skinny girls who can land quads. I'm not trying to take away from the 3A and the Tutberidze team's accomplishments, because what they have done is amazing for this sport, but Liza's quad is almost more impressive to me! Shes almost 23! Wonder when she'll put it in. She's not giving up at fighting for a worlds spot

It doesn't seem that way to me. But then I can't figure out how GOE even works...Surely Liza routinely hits 2 bullet points on her jumps, but she rarely, if ever gets +2.

As it stands it seems that some skaters are forever doomed to get low GOE. Liza even added a difficult transition into her Lutz for the SP and for her troubles one judge gave her a big fat 0 GOE and the most of the others gave her 1. The exact same points she gets for one without a transition, so why bother adding one? If anything it's a disincentive, because if she falls - which is more likely with the transition she'll lose a whole load of points.

If I was her I wouldn't bother trying to add transitions either, they don't get her anything and falling hurts.

Listen, Liza gets +2 +3 routinely, but not every single time a complex entry earns points. I’d argue that Aliona’s insane entry into her 3A that is timed to the music, should be getting her +5 when the jump is well landed, but it never gets +5, usually it’s +3, maybe a few +4?
I’d argue Aliona’s 3F-3T should get +5 unanimously, but it doesn’t get that.
I’d argue Kamila should be getting +5 unanimously for her spins, but she even got -1 for a spin once.
The judges are lenient giving high goes, to everyone.

It often feels like skaters need to hit all 6 bullets just to get +3, and it definitely not just Liza who’s treated like that.
I do think she’s underscored though.

Well well well, yet another realistic contender for the team. Can't wait for Nationals! And congrats to Liza! Last year if I'm not wrong she answered a question on Twitter about learning quads with 'I'm too old for this', but she proved herself wrong.

I wanna to put that in a frame and hang it on my wall.

No doubt Liza and Mishin have been working hard for this. I wonder though... Where can they fit it in the FS? Will she still do the 3A combo?

So many questions!
That’s quite interesting, since she did a big interview just recently and said they stopped trying it during the season and will go back to it during the off-season.
So I thought she’d try it in summer.
But wow, Liza came out to tell everyone you can’t write her off.

Liza is still one of the greatest jumpers in the world. I'm not surprised. It looks beautiful and solid and fully rotated.

I guess people who said that quad revolution isn’t real, and all girls will
lose their quads now have some good food for thought.
Quads are here to stay. ;)

Congratulations to Liza on her 4T! This goes to show with correct technique, adult women can land quads too. Basically shuts down the argument that only pre-puberty girls can rotate fast enough to land them. This also further solidifies my feeling that Sasha will at least be able to keep her 4T in the future too. Hopefully Liza goes for broke and puts it in as Nationals if it’s consistent enough.

So... with Liza's 4T, Wakaba's 3A comeback, all these jumps are becoming the new norm for everyone

And leading up to the Olympics, there will be a dividing line-those who can and those who can't. Those who can't will be winnowed out. Those who can will still be in the game. I wouldn't be surprised to see Serafima land a quad in the future-she has powerful jumps and is certainly capable. Liza's quad ought to be the biggest wakeup call of all to Zhenya and Alina, as I think with one jump Liza just leap frogged ahead of them.

Liza's quad is gorgeous. i love how she was taught to jump only with her legs and no upper body whatsoever, that is why she has been able to keep/get back her jumps and learn 3A's and quads at her age.

but, i honestly don't think this is going to help her as much as her team may think it will. she was extremely beatable with 3 3As across 2 programs this season and was sent a clear message that she isn't getting ahead of 3A with only hard jumps, so i'm a bit confused as why they made a quad a priority over improving her entire 2nd mark and jump layout, which is what is holding her back from being direct competition to them. barring mistakes, i don't think this will help her get ahead of them. a quad doesn't fix or cover up any of the areas Mishin is failing to address. i hope i am wrong and there are improvements in other areas as well by RusNats.

ISU, would you mind plz exceptionally giving russia 6 spots for worlds this year?
Because ummm you know, fans will die watching rusnats, and it will be your fault.

She has a back injury, so her spins probably won't improve from where they are right now, most likely the fact that she's not able to bend her back is also restricting a lot of the choreography for her. I think her team is doing what they can.
I'm not sure 4T will help her that much, mostly because of her combos, where she loses a lot of points, but if she gets her Lz-T back, she can get a monstrous tes.
Even with low PCS, like 63 that she got in US, she'll be able to get 155+ easily.

What a tough human Liza is. Consistently undervalued by her own federation and underscored by international judges, even after getting three triples axels, and still she keeps pushing the envelope. That 4T is beautifully done.

Technically the jump is flawless, but the problem is that this circular entrance with 6-8 back crossovers at slow-mo speed kills every chance of high GOE. Also Team Mishin is not known for well-calculated jump layouts. I assume that the 4T will either replace the second 3A or second 3Lz if it ever makes it into her FS. :slink:
If she wants to have any chance, she needs to optimize her current layout point-wise and then add the 4T on top by reducing 2A's instead of higher valued elements.

Now lets pray Liza will replace the 2As in the FS with 4Ts.

Don't replace a 3As. I repeat, don't replace a 3As. Or the 3Lzs. Or any other triple. With Liza's layouts this season, you never know. I don't think her fans will survive her having 3As and 4Ts but still doing 2x 2As.

The next thing she needs to really work on are her spins. She loses so many points on them and now that she has a quad she can really be a TES heavy skater if she fixes her spins.
