2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

I disagree with this. While Liza gets a lot of criticism for her choreography, ss, speed, and spins, she has some of the best jumps of all the ladies. Her 3Lz and 3A are massive with very good technique, and her other jumps are quite large as well. On the other hand, Sofia's jumps are just a pre-rotated as everyone else's with half (or less than half) the height. You're comparing one of the best jumpers with one of the worse. I think Liza was lowballed on the GOE for some of her jumps, but Sofia's GOEs were what she deserved. Her jumps were already tiny last season, now they're on the verge of being smaller than Satoko's. And it's not like she's a great spinner or has great SS either. I wouldn't say she is particularly strong in any aspect (relatively) of FS. Unfortunately all her elements are some of the lowest quality of the Russian ladies, so she can't compete with them.

It's all relative.

Sofia deserved to be fourth at NHK - that's my opinion. She did not fall, she did an extra triple jump vs. Mako whose landings are not perfect and 2 extra triple jumps vs. Yuhana who in addition to that fell during the SP. Saying that under no scenario do I see Sofia as capable of being at GPF this season.

On the other hand, Liza deserved to be at GPF rather than Bradie.

That's why I say that they both were lowballed. And I share sour grapes with Mishin.

Wow Liza! Does anyone know if she already tried quads pre-puberty or is it something she only learned now from scratch? Impressive either way but if she learned it only now she could be a great inspiration for anyone who thinks they’re too old to learn quads. (Not sure how I like this development in general, that’s a topic for another thread, but I support anyone in their decision to try ultra-c elements if they feel healthy and strong enough.)

That’s quite interesting, since she did a big interview just recently and said they stopped trying it during the season and will go back to it during the off-season.
So I thought she’d try it in summer.

I think they stopped it because they thought she would get into GPF easily with two 3A's. Then there was reality-check and now it's all or nothing for her. She won't get GOE as high as some of the other top Russians and less PCS so she needs to get her BV up as much as she can. And this means: two 3A's, one 4T, two 3Lz...

She did try them pre-puberty too, as well as after puberty, as far as I know. I'm pretty sure she tried learning 4T in 2009/2011, and then in 2015 too, someone correct me if I'm wrong. She learned her 3A at 12 I think?
I think the fact that she has managed to get her 3A back post puberty, and the fact that she got more and more confident with it definitely helped with 4T.

I still feel bad that Gulyakova isn’t going to nationals (I was always rooting for her; she seemed to go through puberty super early and was never a stick figure, which I think is important) but her programs this year were terrible.☹️😩

This season so far:

Alena comes out with the 3A
Sasha comes out with the 3A too
Liza comes out with the 4T

What's the next plot twist?

She is wonderful.

Now, judges will not be able to put Liza under the skaters of the 20th century.

Mishin is true to himself. 3A and Quads. Drive and Power. And no princesses and snot.

May God grant her health.

I love this fight and determination. Can’t wait for nationals.

Just saw this!

Amazing!!

I sure am glad Liza is a fighter, unlike me :)

Bring it on!

Where is that thread about the most underrated skaters? Liza Tuk is the queen of the underrated. And underscored. I hope she can bring this to competition. Having a quad plus triple axels opens up a lot of possibilities for a big score. Now if they would just give her PCS that is higher than Trusova's...

Anyone have any thoughts on what a potential FS layout could look like for Liza incorporating the quad? That is, assuming she capitalizes on her technical ability and doesn't get rid of either of her triple axels or any of her other triples.

I'm so happy for her!! Liza will always have a special place in my heart, because she brought me to the sport back in 2011

Oh yeah... Trusova's PCS is the main evil of figure skating, why not just be happy for Liza without hitting Sasha? She deserves every single point in component score(at home GP, leader of the season was rated at 66, which is only 2 points more than in juniors)

Sasha comes out with the 3A too
Liza comes out with the 4T

What's the next plot twist?

Well I'm still hoping for:

-Alina with quad lutz/flip
-Zhenya with quad sal
-Aliona with a quad (sal or toe)
-Anna or Sasha with quad flip
-Valieva or Usacheva with triple axel

If she trained under Eteri, it would be:

4T
3A+2T
3A
3Lo
---
3Lz+1Eu+3S
3Lz+3T
3F

But... it's Team Mishin, so:

3A+2T
4T
3Lz+2A (Seq)
3F
---
2A+3T+2T
3Lz
3Lo

What's the next plot twist?

Russian Nationals is a splatfest. Serafima Sakhanovich becomes the champ. She goes to Worlds but falls on all 5 of her quad attempts, losing the gold to Starr Andrews of the USA.
