2019-20 U.S. Ladies Figure Skating

Not this year, but I think she did last year, which counts I believe.

International TES minimums last for two years.

However, this is a new rule this season for a different TES minimum that must be earned in order to compete at U.S. Nationals. It must be earned every year.

Initially, I thought the bar for Nationals might have been too high. But I believe the top 4 women from each Sectional did end up earning a qualifying score this season. It's tough luck for Megan but all the competitors who made it have bested her scores this season.

Oh my Goodness. I thought she had a bye based on GP participation and last years' min. tech scores. What a shame. And I'm assuming if she sticks around she would have to go through Regionals, Sectionals etc. next year.

Does she need a junior minimum score to be eligible for Junior Worlds, in case USFS decides to send her there?

Alysa mentioned on her live today that she isn’t going to the Youth Olympics in January.

Happy Thanksgiving US fans!

I guess that makes sense considering how close US Nationals is. I wonder if the US will send anyone else, or if everyone will want to be preparing for Nationals? I don't think this is likely, but maybe they're sending Starr and they've sent her to Golden Spin in juniors to practice junior programs?

Oh right. They could send Hanna Harrell or something, but I have a feeling they won't send anyone.

I understand given the closeness of Nationals, but it annoys me that Team USA rarely takes advantage of the Youth Olympics. It’s the same in gymnastics - the USOC never sends anyone for women’s gymnastics. It seems like a potentially valuable experience (see: Adelina Sotnikova in 2012) or at the very least a fun experience for a skater that might not be able to make it to the Olympics and experience that later (see: Polina Tsurskaya in 2016 and Li Zijun in 2012).

Thx for sharing what Alysa said about not going to YOG.

The U.S. has two YOG slots for ladies.
Hanna and Audrey Shin are the next two age-eligible ladies in the NQS rankings (which USFS had announced as the basis for YOG selection).

I really hope that Audrey is sent to YOG.
She placed sixth at Eastern sectionals in senior ladies, so she did not qualify for Nats this year. :ghug:

Happy Thanksgiving to all. :)

Re Starr:

Although we don't know why she is a junior entry for Golden Spin, the theory that USFS wants to have the option of sending her to Junior Worlds makes sense to me. For JW, she would need to get the minimum TES at a junior international. Her previous junior scores are too old to meet the requirement.

Thanks to Ting and Hanna last year, the U.S. has three JW spots for ladies, and it surely wants them again.

Ting and Hanna potentially could be in the mix for the (senior) World team ... OTOH, both have missed competitions this season because of injury.

Alysa presumably will go to her first JW. Starr potentially could be the only member of the JW team with JW experience, depending on who are selected as the second and third ladies for JW.

ETA:

Elsa Cheng's bio has been added to USFS fan zone. (Recently, IIRC.)

Good luck to her at Golden Spin. :yay:
Her first international, I think?

I confess I don't know much about the YOG but it looks like in 2016 the US sent one of each: Camden Pulkinen, Vanna Giang, Sarah Rose/Joseph Goodpaster, and Chole Lewis/Logan Bye (with Lewis/Bye getting a silver). The US did let one dance spot go unused, but only had one in each of the other disciplines. I don't expect the US to send its top junior skaters, but I hope they do give some up-and-comers the opportunity. I thought I remembered an article somewhere where Camden had talked fondly of his YOG experience.

(Although the 2016 YOG was in February, so it was a much better time of the year. I don't know why the 2020 one is so early.)

Can’t wait to see Hanna Harrell compete again soon. How she performs will tell us a lot.

I think that at this nationals, Amber Glenn could beat Hanna and Ting if she JUST SKATES CLEAN. Amber could totally be pewter medalist.
