yes, she currently is with Carly right now. i do think it's odd nothing was mentioned of Gracie advancing to nationals after all the clips he's shared of her. i am really curious as to where TSL heard this in the first place, and whether it's a credible source or not.

Dave has said that he never reveals his sources, which is good journalism but also in the world of figure skating, he'd lose his inside information sources very quickly if he said who told him this stuff early. I agree with you that it's baffling to imagine that Vincent would up and move across the country and leave all his skaters in the lurch mid-season.

I guess time will tell about Gracie. As to TSL, they seem to have a lot of well placed sources. Dave isn’t infallible but he’s generally been pretty reliable when breaking news like this. I know many people dislike him/TSL because of the gossip and perceived meanness/ lack of political correctness, but I’m pretty sure he studied journalism, and he seems to take factual reporting and interviewing pretty seriously. He did state about this that he had confirmed the info. I guess it could still turn out to be wrong - I mean even newspapers sometimes have to publish retractions - but I don’t think this is a case of Dave simply spreading rumors for rumors sake.

I agree. I wish TSL would stick interviews and to real figure skating discussions, because Dave is an excellent interviewer. And his inside information very often turns out to be correct. (this can be annoying! LOL). I like his frankness, because the world of figure skating is so full of "canned" statements; I often find myself having had a similar thought. But there's such a very fine line between candid speculation and being really mean, and TSL crosses it often. Not just with Gracie, not just with my favorites. They've been very positive about Gracie recently.

I'm surprised that Megan Wessenberg is not listed for Senior Ladies.
She was eligible for an international bye. (For having three international assignments: Lombardia, Finlandia, NHK.)

When it comes to TSL, I haven't really watched it since Jenny left. If Dave has talked about Gracie's situation, I wish he would have included her future plans. If Vincent is really gone, will Gracie be switching to another coach in that rink, go coachless to Nationals, or find someone to come in from the outside.

I disagree. Bradie has shown especially with WTT that she can compete with the best.

Alysa Liu has amazing potential and I totally understand the hype but the girl hasn't even hit the international junior scene yet.

I also think Ting Cui is a full package skater. She just needs to put out consistent performances. Let's also remember that she is still fairly new on the international scene just having made her JGP debut two seasons ago. If Ting went clean, she could easily be top 6.

Alysa Liu qualified with two golds in both of her JGP events and a lot of people are expecting her to be second after Kamila Valieva in the final. Do you mean she hasn't proven herself at top-level competition, because this is her first year as an international junior.

He did. She is working with the two other coaches at the same rink. They were the coaches with her at sectionals. She was working with them anyway, she just had Vincent as her main coach.

There are 21 senior ladies listed... which seems like an odd number.

The junior events are going to be a little more interesting now that the top novices are competing in them too... but still not as interesting as in the countries with a separate junior worlds.

Well, it's not an even number.

But it is within the range of how many skaters there have been at Nationals in other years.

Twelve qualify from sectionals (minus any who haven't achieved minimum tech scores, new for 2020) plus however many qualified each year for one or more types of byes offered at the time.

In addition to what you cite, she is the defending National Champion.

Looking ahead to this year... her technical score will increase because of the quad, and whatever folks like me say about the PCS of these talented young skaters, it has improved over the level that managed to win last year.

So compared to last year, we can expect both her TES and PCS to increase.

I'd call her the favorite. We'll see.

I think at this stage of the game, Gracie's success doesn't rest with a coach, but rather with her own confidence level and state of mind.

So long as she has someone she trusts to help her stay on track, that's really all that's needed for the present. IMO, of course.

I guess what I mean is that a coach in the sense of "all right, let's rework this jump technique" is not what the doctor is ordering, at least currently.

2021 Nationals will be in San Jose CA (yippee).

waltzjump, the post from tosca that you quoted is from June 2019 -- well before Alysa's JGP debut.

Will there be another skater to challenge her in the technical elements?

I think she will win the JGP final, and I'd be surprised if she doesn't have more than one quad at this point. She will lag behind in PCS, but, probably win both segments-long and short.

I don't think Megan earned the TES minimum.

Not this year, but I think she did last year, which counts I believe.
