2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Those comments are indeed very silly on several levels but she is young. At least it is just her personal Instagram, not an interview with some sports journalists.

Anastasia Gubanova about Alina in 2018.

“I don’t understand how it happened. The season before last, I beat her for one or two, and then she somehow just fired over the summer. Although she was with the same coach - Eteri Tutberidze. Maybe Alina began to work more, or maybe chemistry, ”Gazeta.ru reports with reference to Gubanova’s Instagram.

The skater also added that she did not believe that Zagitova deserved the gold medal of the Pyeongchang Olympic Games.

“I believe that Medvedeva has earned gold. She already won. Alina had only the first season. She's still small, baby. I believe that she has not yet earned a gold medal. I have nothing against her, but my opinion is, ”said Gubanova.

Gold is not given for those who earned it.
Rather, to those who spent less time, reached more points, received higher marks...
Talks like who was "more worthy of Gold" are just ridiculous.

There are two kinds of "gold" - immediate and integrated.
Alina Zagitova won the immediate "gold" on Olympics, the OGM. She also could be considered the winner of integrated gold over 18-19 seasons.
Eugeniya Medvedeva won two times the World Gold and could be considered the integrated "gold" winner for two seasons before.

And?
Who was "more worthy", Boitano or Orser?
Orser was my favorite but this fact didn't impress the Board.

So as things stand, it looks like next year for the Grand Prix it will be...

Trusova, Kostornaia, Shcherbakova, Medvedeva, Zagitova, Tuktamysheva

with Sinitsyna, Vasilieva, and Tarakanova replacing Sotskova, Konstantinova, and Sakhanovich

and Samodurova on the cusp of being out but will probably be in the top 24 in the standings thus I think will be given a spot.

I'm not expecting it, but Alena Kanysheva could get on the list with a good score at Junior Worlds.

Now for a bit of a retrospective:
Konstantinova: I was on the Konstantinova hype train early(I may have started it) and got off it early because it was obvious she was never going to have any consistency. She was given a lot of opportunities and usually did not take advantage of them. I find her awkward in parts, but I do really like her step sequences.

Sotskova: The writing was on the wall with the new underrotation rules. A bit of a disappointing senior career... being 4th twice at Europeans has to hurt... but she made the Olympics(unlike Tuktamysheva) and she earned a major medal on the GPF(unlike Gracie Gold). I loved the programs for her first two years as juniors... after that they seemed confused about to do and with Buianova I found her programs to be boring. I hate to say it, but she's a top example of how to go to the Olympics and barely be noticed. I'd much rather see skaters go to Plushenko before they go to Buianova unless they're below the JGP age.

Sakhanovich: The competition with Medvedeva at the 2014 JGPF is still one of my favorite events. It(along with the 2014 Japan Open) kind of cemented myself becoming a fan after Sochi(I was a kind of a fan in the 90s but I was young then and didn't pay close attention to it). The big "what-if" with Serafima is what if she had not left left Eteri and had gone senior a year earlier. This is a question that probably haunts her because it's almost certain her career would have gone better had that have happened. A couple of grand prix medals at the very least with a possible GPF invite. A Euros medal could be possible but Radionova and Porogilaya were doing well in her first potential senior year. I'm a bit doubtful she would have been able to get anything above that.

It'll be interesting to see who if any continue. I really can't see any of them being back on the Grand Prix for Russia but perhaps they are fine with just Nationals and the Cup of Russia events... and maybe a Challenger series event... and there is still the Universiade to contend for.

I do think it's a bit sad that neither Gubanova or Nugumanova will ever skate on the Grand Prix. IMO, Gubanova should have been given a spot this year.

The reverse is also possibe - she could follow Yulia. The 2014-15 season was fabulous to her: her first performance of "Sweet and tender beast" is still my all time favorite junior short program followed by Valieva's Girl on the ball.

But next season she just could not land the jumps - puberty. It would strike her anyway, senior or junior.

With Eteri she could have lost the motivation to go on.

Idk, i honestly thought if Sakhanovich stayed with Eteri, there'd have been 3 Sambo70 girls at the Olympics.

Sima has the mindset Eteri wants of a down to earth hard worker athlete, you can still see it right now, she is training a lot but she needs more confidence and a stronger guidance on how to fix her issues.

If i was her coach, i'd totally choose the strategy of going for the clean programs, to build that consistency so why not moving both the 3-3 combos in the first half of the program, the 3s-3t seems to be an issue.

I hope if she wants to continue to work in this sport, she can find a job as a coach in the Eteri staff.

Yulia was the kind of champion who needed all the attentions from the coach: she had amazing talent and qualities no one else had and she knew it. She'd have been perfect for Tarasova, while Tutberidze is not that kind of coach. (or at least she was for Julia up until 2014 Worlds)

The GPF is going to have commentary also - it says so in the ISU's latest list of countries details. https://www.isu.org/figure-skating/...f-figure-skating-series-2019?templateParam=15

I like that they proudly present that in Czech Republic the Czech TV has the rights, but in fact Czech TV is only planning to broadcast senior pairs free skates (record) and senior men's free skate (live). It was similar through the whole GP series, only something here and there, the most absurd it was on NHK, when they broadcasted just the first warm-up group of ladies free skate. Not the second one including Rika, Alina and Aliona, but the first one. They only showed free skates of those three two days later in the short edited record of the competition. I don't know who is making those decisions there, but the official ISU channel is geoblocked for the viewers here just for the sake of such small fragments of the competitions. Not such a problem for me (VPN), but for many others it is.

That's too bad. In Poland there is a TV broadcast (I'm not sure of how many events) AND a non-geoblocked YT stream.

It was a big issue for me actually. Even when I had figured out where to find the stream on their website, with different time zones if you weren't able to watch, that was it, no streams are archived. With Eurosport, you were at least able to re-watch if you bought the Player.
Okay, I am off now as I don't want to hijack this thread.

Found on Youtube a fan song about Russian ladies skaters performed quite well. I even thought at first that it takes some kind of real singer of the second echelon, but when the song reached the words

"They are beautiful, persistent, an example for others,
They discovered the world of quads..."

I realized that this is just a very high-quality fan art :) And imagine my surprise when I recognized, in the end, that the author and performer of the song is the odious Elena Rodina.

Once again I am convinced of the rightness of Dostoevsky: "russian man is broad, even too broad, I would narrow him down"

Alina, Alena, Sasha and Anna are not in Turin yet and missed today's practice. They will arrive tomorrow. Only Rika and Bradie are at practice lol.

I bet Rika and Bradie were happy. It’s not often that at a practice on competition ice it is only you and one other skater  I know that I would have been happy

The juniors are already there. They had their runthroughs earlier. Ksenia had a clean RT, I believe Dasha and Kamila too - but Kamila jumped no quads

It is strange that they did not come all together. Are the trainers there?
