2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

As a fan of Alina I think it would be best for her to retire from the nationals. Because of his mental health, another collapse could be devastating. She is a winner, has multiple advertising contracts and shows. Fighting 3A is difficult for any skater in the world. She will always be the world and Olympic champion, something that no Russian has been able to achieve

Aliona will keep her advantage over everyone else as long as they aren't landing 3As in the short, but Sasha isn't far behind. i would take it as Aliona is working on a quad from what very little she said in the interview, which to me sounded like she has something in the works but is keeping it quiet...she will need one eventually to stay on top. the interviewer also mentioned something about a surprise in the ex i think? hmmm.

It was an amazing competition. The 3A are really the new teen queens and have ushered in a completely new technical level of skating. Seeing each one perform better than the next was fantastic, and Aliona must have nerves of steel to go after her quadster teammates AND put out that fantastic skate. I was crushed for Alina, of course. I think if Alina hadn't won OGM and WGM, she might have the motivation to continue fighting. I personally believe she has the goods to continue competing even with the 3A. Alina has always IMO been super talented and had good technique on jumps, spins, etc. However, now that she has won everything and is busy doing promotions, movies, etc. (which is wonderful and awesome) I don't know if she can find the motivation to stay as competitive when her teammates have basically changed the landscape of figure skating. I really think she and her team need to have a serious talk (and maybe they have) about her future goals. As awesome as Eteri and her team are, I'm sure it is challenging to continue motivating a OGM/WGM while you have younger ladies who are also at the top of their game and basically revolutionizing women's figure skating. I'm not saying Alina should change coaches or that there is a better coach for her out there, just that I think the current situation must be very difficult for all involved. Anyway, I hope this is just a low point in what will hopefully be a long career, and I would be thrilled for Alina to continue competing for many years, and if that's her goal, I have no doubt she can do this.

Anyway, congrats to all the medalists. I am still in disbelief at the level of talent in women's figure skating right now. To think that Rika with her amazing skate just got 4th...

The girls are tired and worn in their press conference, but acquitted themselves well and professionally. But it seems Alyona kept her phone under the table and was very much occupied by it? Tina snuggled herself in Sasha's elbow crook and went to sleep ;-)

The question about psychology was the most unexpected and Alyona answered with authority it is their trainers and medical staff who fulfil this role. And no, the girls hardly go out skating in public places for fun.

Hopefully we'll see all of them in tomorrow's EX, and Tina too :-)

I find it rich for anyone to be surprised what's happening with Zagitova. People have been calling this since she won the Olympics, and now the bunch of you are acting like surprised Pikachus.

I don't think Zagitova needs to feel down on herself at all. She has won ALL the medals, including the OGM, and at most one, if not none, of the new trio will be able to match her in that.

Only Trusova has the ability to achieve the Grand Slam like Alina has. She's the only one of the three who has won both Junior Worlds and the Junior Grand Prix Final.

Yes, yes, yes! I checked. Alyona had the best height and speed from all the girls with height - 57 and speed 16.8! She is second in distance with 2.56. Bradie is first with 2.62.

Yawn. The Holy grail is the individual OGM. No one cares about team OGM except Patrick Chan and fans of skaters who can't win the individual OGM.

Zagitova has the full suite of medals, and she is one of the very very few skaters who can boast that. No need for her to feel any doom or gloom.

The Grand Slam includes the OGM :palmf: God, everyone in here is being so snippy lately. Were you not just talking about ALL the medals?

Whoops. My bad on that.

Eh, you never know. I would put my money on Kostornaia. She's more well balanced and her technique strikes me as more stable.

Of the three competitions where the 3A girls competed against each other and all three were on the podium, they have now taken every possible place on podiums against each other. They each have one gold, one silver and one bronze. [emoji23]

Rusnats 2018: Anna, Sasha, Alena.
Junior Rusnats 2018: Sasha, Alena, Anna.
GPF 2019: Alena, Anna, Sasha.

They really are just taking turns, huh. "Mum says it's my turn on the gold!" "No, mine!" "No, you were gold last time!" [emoji23]
This is a good post [emoji28][emoji13][emoji108][emoji119]

Er... okay then. :slink:

I do agree about Alina, no need for her to feel down. Disappointed, yes, but she‘s still amazing and has won everything. If she wants to keep fighting, Nationals will be better. Her jumps in practice were there.

maybe Zagitova can go to junior worlds ? shes still 17

Okay, now you‘ve got to be kidding.
