Sounds like his left ankle hasn't healed completely. He couldn't resume training on ice until November 7, and sometimes couldn't skate all. It hurt until a couple weeks ago.

I just hope he can perform the best he can now and finish his last FS as a single skater with a smile. He has many good memories with the venue, Yoyogi National Stadium, including 2005 Nats, 2012 WTT and 2013 NHK Trophy.
 
Dai looks good in practice. Sorry to hear about his ankle. Love his new hairdo but again he could wear a bag on his head and I would love that too. Good Luck Dai-Chan!:cheer::cheer::cheer:
 
Hoping that Dai can skate two programs that truly satisfy him at Nationals, I'm so excited (and nervous) to see the Phoenix and Pale Green Ghosts again :hap10: It's also neat to see footage of him skating with Kana, I'm looking forward to seeing what more the partnership can bring out of them both :biggrin:

Oh deedee, that's such a shame. :( The fight for tickets must have been a bloodbath. *sigh*

On the bright side, it's not a permanent farewell from the sport. You might get the opportunity to see him compete live in ice dance! :)

I have not watched his SP yet can't find a video. Seems like Dai had jump problems but folks are saying
he never gave up on the program. I like his SP but I always thought it was to ambitious as a competitive
program given Dai's injuries and I was secretly hoping he would go back to last years' SP. Oh well it is what it is.

I did watch a short interview clip after his performance, and he was disappointed but not upset with his placement.
He did get the third highest in PC's 42.42.

Can't wait for the FS I love his PGG.

He did the best he could at the moment. Before the Western Sectional, not only he injured his left ankle, but also his right knee's pain came back as well. His body was getting better but he didn't enough time before the Nats. His program demanded more stamina than anyone else's.

From 20:20, Utako-sensei says "I know nothing lasts forever, but I am glad that he stayed with me to the end (of his career as a single skater)"
I'll really miss her in Dai's K&C.

That was insane. It's not about the jumps or being competitive anymore, it's about putting forth an aura that nobody else can. Really looking forward to seeing what he can do in ice dance now!

It is always a pleasure to see him.
Next year he is going to do pairs right? Will they be going for the Grandprix?

"The Phoenix" is such an entertaining, crowd-pleasing program and Dai gave it his all despite the odds.

I said this before and I'll say it again: he's got nothing left to prove, because he achieved everything there is to achieve. To have so many fans stick with him for so many years through ups and downs - some of them for 15 years even - speaks louder than anything else. Once again there were so many cheers and banners for him up to the very last row of the stands. He has the rare ability to enthrall people, so much so that his technical content and placement becomes secondary. People love him for his artistic spirit, his commitment to and never giving up on a performance and for being a humble sportsman.

Thank you for everything, Dai-chan and good luck for the free! No matter the outcome, we love you! ❤

He will switch to ice dance next month. Kana and him haven't revealed any concrete plans yet. They will probably figure that out as they go along.

"The Phoenix" is Daisuke's message to his fans. He's about to "die" as a singles.skater, but he will be "reborn" as an ice dancer.

Much as I love Yuzu and Shoma, Dai is KING... he has single-handedly moved the sport forward in a huge, remarkable way... Amazing man and athelete...:bow: :thank:
