2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

We did; however, A. Trusova made more mistakes at the GPF than she normally does, and that can negatively impact PCS. (I would argue that it did so even with Hanyu there). And B. One of the patterns I have seen over many years at Russian Nationals is that TES often has a stronger impact upon PCS there than at other events. Samarin's PCS marks at Nationals over the past 2-3 years being a clear example. I do think Kostornaia has a very smooth glide over the ice that will likely bring in a higher skating skills mark than that of her age-level compatriots. I simply do not think I would count on a similar PCS gap to that from the GPF due to A&B above.

It's not really the same though. Aliev and Samarin don't have a big PCS gap internationally (even if I think they should), whereas Trusova and Kostornaya do. So I'm not sure how much looking at the men tells us.

Kostornaia is already getting 73 PCS - to boost her PCS just 3 points she would need 9.5s across all categories which will be difficult to get. Sasha is getting around 66/67 and can more easily gain 5-6 points, which would put her at an average of about 9. This would close the gap slightly. The closer your are to the max score, the harder it is to grow your score as you have less room for improvement. So their argument of the PCS gap shrinking could make sense to me if Sasha is clean.

Because she has "proper" jump technique. When using such technique - it's especially hard to make +3T combos with it - without URs and/or falls. It's related to both first (lutz/flip) and second (toeloop) jump in a combo. All other ladies with such technique (Tsurkskaya, Sotskova, Kawabata, Chen, Kim, Paganini etc.) were having troubles with such combos for a reason - and preferred doing 3Lz+2T or 2A+3T combos instead.

Yuna Kim had one of the best and most consistent 3Lz-3T combos of them all.

This makes no sense...

Ok, if you say so. Maybe Yuna Kim was just that special ;)
Nevertheless, Liza definitely has troubles with 3+3 combos - so much so that she is compelled to downgrade her layout - just to avoid them as much as possible.

She's even struggled with 3T-3T this season when she put that back into her SP, so it doesn't seem to have anything to do with lutz/flip technique.

as many here I am disappointed with Liza's planned layout. However, I think she is playing the long-term game. She probably knows chances to have a clean more complicated layout are very slim. So this year she will lose anyway. The goal is Olympics. So she shows them all: look I have a quad, my puberty long gone, give me 1-2years and I will complicate my program for O.
She actually is fighting against zhenya for an Olympic place on the team. With a little bit of luck one or two of the 3a are in the middle of puberty at the O season. For zhenya to land a quad is not very realistic, even correct lutz edge is not in sight. Valieva looks like she will grow quite a bit. For zagitova to come back is very unrealistic. The other two junior eteris are not that promising/talented as 3A. But liza will be there, reliable with quad and 3a. She will get the place on the olympic national team and get a medal at O. Mission accomplished[emoji6]

This is one of the cases where correlation doesn’t mean causation.
Polina has a delayed rotation, which caused urs, Sotskova just grew a lot, others are barely good examples too.
Besides, Kim Yuna was probably was one of the few who underrotated the least in her time, unlike Mao Asada, who didn’t have that technique and who was often plagued by < calls, which actually helped Yuna to ensure podium finish in every competition.
Veronika Zhilina has beautiful jumps, and hers are ginormous.

Liza always had problems with 3-3 combos of any kind, one season she lands Lz-T, the other she can’t get to land it once. It’s her personal problem, but nothing to do with technique.

Gosh new seniors among the actual juniors will be eligible for the olympics. I don’t think that Zhenia or Liza will have a chance even with a quad. You need to land 3 or 4 quads to be competitive.

She better be trolling with that mess. I absolutely refuse to believe that’s her planned layout. That 3T is a typo. It’s supposed to be a 4T. The 3Lz+2A is also a mistake. I’m under the impression that she’s fired up and on a mission to prove a point. That layout is giving up and I hope I don’t see that from her.
I agree that her layout looks like she isn't even trying to medal.

At least at the moment this new juniors don't have multiple quads. And they don't seem as talented as the current eteris aka 3As (besides valieva, who most likely will grow. She looks very similar to teen rodionova). My point though is that chances to get in the O team are higher and more realistic for liza than medal at this nationals from todays point of view

I think the ladies sp begins at 7:30 am eastern time in the US, right??? I can’t wait!!!! Will the livestream be the one and only time to see that portion of the event or will videos be available afterwards?

A few weeks up to a month
Oh, poor Zhenya. The only things I know about breaking into new skates are from 'Ice Princess' movie, where the main character performs badly after getting new skates before competition lol. I really hope it turns out better for Evgenia. Also, whoever manages to create boots that feel comfortable from the first day could probably become a billionaire.
