2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Yes, and it’s the one on the top of the podium who dictates these emotions. Anna is just like Alina, humble and modest, but if Aliona would have won today, she would not have felt awkward at all

Yeah okay. Just say you hate Alena and go.

Although her two teammates were visibly upset, Anna still had every right to show happiness and excitement for her win and I would not think any less of her if she had. However, she chose to keep her emotions subdued around her teammates who obviously did not share her excitement. Personally, I believe that if Alena or Sasha had won, they would've done the same thing.

It’s ok the 3A will win a title, GPF for Alena, Nationals for Anna and Europeans for Sasha.

Who will succeed Alina for the worlds ?

Kostornaia. I'm betting on her for Worlds.

Does GS have a betting pool? Would help for everyone to put their money where their mouth is.

I see the results of RusNats like those:

Shcherbakova to EC and WC
Kostornaya to WC and 1st substitute to EC
Trusova to EC and 1st substitute to WC
Tuktamisheva to WC and 2nd substitute to EC

I'd say if Trusova to be denied to participate in Worlds at may be a medal lost. She usually peaks at spring season.

There is absolutely no reason at all for the Russian's to send any other team to EC and World's. Had it been Zagitova at 4th place then the third placer could have been in danger of losing her World's spot so Alina could defend her title. As soon as Zagitova pulled out I was sure it was 3A for both competitions.

Can I just throw in here

Valeria Shulskaya!!

What a debut! This girl was totally unknown a couple of months ago. I thought she wouldn't have the nerves (she looked very nervous at the Russian Cup), and then she presented two clean skates, almost beating Guliakova to be the second highest senior after the 3A.

Fantastic stuff. A true Cinderella story!

I hope she gets at least a Challenger next year so she can be in the SB game and fight for GP spots.

Those three girls in the hot seat together straight off the ice shows them raw, and they did remarkably well given their age and what just happened. Anna obviously was most relaxed and choose her words well. In her dealings with the media Anna always strikes me as the most talkative yet thoughtful, sharp minded and giving measured and exact answers. She takes most after Daniil Markovich in this respect, and when Anna gets a little older she'd do well as athlete representative.

Wow where did you hear that?

Alyona might be working on a quad, it has been suspected for a while now but she is a bit more cautious about introducing them. She gets a lot of points skating clean I doubt she would have considered risking a quad here when making the team is so important

I don't know how team selection work in Russia, but whoever even just ponder to leave at home one of the 3A should be immediately removed from selection responsibilty
I think Alyona is obsessively perfectionist and she won't insert a quad into a competition id she's not confident to land it with high percentage (unless in compromized scoring situation where she has little to lose)

I agree! I remember watching Ted's interview with Anna after she won her first JGP event last year and I was immediately struck by how poised and well-spoken she was, especially in a language that was not her mother tongue (she was speaking English).

oh, come on, no need to talk badly about Aliona.
She always answered respectfully about everything, she's a sweet and humble girl as well.
She literally did nothing wrong.
And if any of the girls wanted to be happy, I really wish they could, there's nothing wrong with being happy at least for a second, if you win a major competition.

She's adorable.
The other two are very shy with the press

Why on earth would Kostornaia be only a substitute to Euros lol... that would be a very stupid decision

From what I read there are two conspiracy theories: 1) fed made her skate 2) fed made her withdraw
In both cases, fed is the bad guy, whether they made her withdraw or made her skate.
Federation didn’t break her boots, the only culprit here is the ice of Krasnoyarsk and her boots company.
it was a crazy situation all the way around.

As you can see, feelings do get hurt. Both Sasha and Aliona sad over not winning, and Anna feeling awkward. Notice the resemblance to the Olympics? It's impossible to not get emotional.
Vande is back! It had to be very awkward for Anna because you just won her second Russian Nationals in a row with an incredible clutch performance for the second year in a row. I feel very badly for Alena. It was all there for her but I guess you made a couple mistakes that cost her. I have not seen the video Sasha crying and I'm not sure I want to see that. So much pressure on this girl I hope Tina can cheer her up.

The assessments of Alena's character are getting out of hand...
It's so unfair and ridiculous. Because Aliona is more comfortable than Sasha and Anna in the public eye and a little bit older I think people take her confidence the wrong way.
