2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

I love Anna's quads but her lutz technique is not the most accurate, with a questionable edge, toe pick and body position going in: giving +4/+5 for that seems a bit generous to me, but as always there are also the camps who think "she landed a quad, that's impressive enough to give her a +5", for me +5 is perfection and that means everything has to be perfect.

Especially considering she did it right after Tuktamysheva's performance which had some proper 3 lutzes and they were nowhere near as rewarded.

I'm a little late, but thanks!

It's a beautiful jump. If she is not getting an edge call judges both at home and international usually give her big GOE. I'm not picky with edges anyway as long as I see a beautifully executed jump with all the bells and whistles. Intricate steps going in, tight air position with good height and soft landings then I'd give high GOE personally.

I see the results of RusNats like those:

Shcherbakova to EC and WC
Kostornaya to WC and 1st substitute to EC
Trusova to EC and 1st substitute to WC
Tuktamisheva to WC and 2nd substitute to EC

I'd say if Trusova to be denied to participate in Worlds at may be a medal lost. She usually peaks at spring season.

I dont see any logic behind choosing this unless the Rus fed doesnt want a clean sweep of all 3 medals at worlds. Trusova season's best is 20 points higher than Tuktamysheva.

ain her dealings with the media Anna always strikes me as the most talkative yet thoughtful, sharp minded and giving measured and exact answers. She takes most after Daniil Markovich in this respect, and when Anna gets a little older she'd do well as athlete representative.

I agree and this has also been stated various times by the 3A and their coaching team themselves, describing the girls and each other

Anna: calm, polite, intellectual
Sasha: high energy, bubbly, stubborn
Alena: as per Danil "a little devil with an Angel's face"

Third place? Still seems pretty good to me

Not good when you consider posters bleating on and on about how she's invincible and some messiah of figure skating bc she can jump quads. And her reaction to 3rd place says otherwise than "pretty good".

Trusova today is prime example of what happens when you have nothing but jumps and those fail you.

Absolutely disagree. She had grit and courage and kept going and showed true character here.
Also her SP was beautiful, soft and much improved in performance.

I mean, that is fair since it's the tech panel's job to call edges, not judges.

Oh puh-lease. "Grit" and "courage" and "character" are filler words people throw around when there's nothing else one can say about a meltdown skate.

It wasn't reaction to the place she got, it was reaction to her skate.

She wanted to win, just as much as the others did. Her reaction is exactly as expected.
She isn't invincible and I wonder if that pressure to be the quad machine actually contributed to her not handling the pressure well.

Can I just throw in here

Valeria Shulskaya!!

What a debut! This girl was totally unknown a couple of months ago. I thought she wouldn't have the nerves (she looked very nervous at the Russian Cup), and then she presented two clean skates, almost beating Guliakova to be the second highest senior after the 3A.

Fantastic stuff. A true Cinderella story!

I hope she gets at least a Challenger next year so she can be in the SB game and fight for GP spots.

I noticed that she was the only one not from Moscow/SP — I hope she got noticed in that highly competitive field

The great thing for these phenomenal three girls is that there are bigger fish to fry in the future especially with world's the next two years and the Olympics the year after that.

the question now is did aliona lose this or did Anna win it or is it a combination of both?

Oh puh-lease. "Grit" and "courage" and "character" are filler words people throw around when there's nothing else one can say about a meltdown skate.

Whatever.

She fought back and landed a quad combo and a loop combo that she's had trouble with recently, if that's not grit, courage and character I don't know what is.

Why all the negativety? The poor girl can't catch a break can she...if she wins people rush in to put her down and if she fails they rush in to gloat and put her down.

Why is it considered acceptable to bully 15 year old girls online?

Kostornaya a 4s?
Does anybody else feel like Aliona should not try to strain her body and disrupt her consistency with quads and instead keep polishing what she has and, as bad as it sounds, just wait for Anna and Sasha to grow a bit more and become (more) inconsistent?
Same goes for Anna, does everybody like the idea of her learning more quads (4F etc) ?
I get that they are being pushed by the coaching team and their own minds, but I think every skaters goal are the Olympics, which are in 2 years. Maybe they should think more strategically

I never thought she was invincible, and I think her devastating reaction more has to do with her being dissapointed in herself and nlt the placement

I wholeheartedly agree with you. Alyiona is On Target to win a world championship and a real threat to win the Olympic championship in a little more than two years. Her quality of skating is so high and it's only going to get better if she can stay healthy.

Alyona herself wants to add a quad.
Sasha is a force to be reckoned with whose coaches have to try to talk her out of certain things.
Anna seems to be quietly ambitious and has added another quad that in no way seems like she's been pressured to add.

This entire thread is a constant loop of bullying, so not sure why you suddenly are sensitive to that now.

I am not the first nor last person to say Trusova is all jumps and her skating without it isn't anything to write about, as evidenced clearly today. I would hardly call that bullying.

That "meltdown" skate scored 149.88. No one in Russia, except Anna, Alena and Alina has scored that much this season.
