Evgenia Medvedeva

I am relieved that Evgenia withdrew, because it seems like she was risking serious injury with that boot, and as she herself said, she won't skate on broken bones any longer. It's an incredibly hard decision, and I applaud her for being able to make it. It really is a pity about the broken boot, as she has been improving steadily over the course of this season, and oh, how I would have loved to see Exogenesis and Memoirs of a Geisha again and again.

On the other hand, she has some downtime now, and more time to work on upping her technical content for next season. The scores she's received this season make me reasonably confident that she doesn't need loads and loads of quads, because her PCS are high and have kept her in medal contention, so hopefully she can follow Aliona Kostornaya's path from this season, with one big value jump, and beautiful skating for the rest. Such a pity that the 3A doesn't seem to be a good fit for her - it would be a real advantage in the SP if she could include it.

At any rate, I am so proud of Evgenia. She has grown so much as an individual in the last few years, and she handles difficult situations with good grace, finds something positive in them, and comes back fighting. She has fortitude, and that is a rare quality indeed. I will miss seeing her skate the rest of this season, but I am sure that she will wow us next season. (Just, please, let it be not so much of a roller coaster ride. Please.)

Very unfortunate for Medvedeva. It’s always possible she would have won bronze here. I’m certain she’s disappointed. I’m disappointed in the reaction of her previous coach and the other skater. That actually shocked me to see. What kind of example is that behavior setting?
I hope to see Medvedeva back next season. These girls tend to have a shelf life of 2-3 senior seasons. Tuktamysheva and Medvedeva are the exception. Who knows what the future will hold for the current National medalists, however I hope their replacements won’t be laughing at them......

Hello posters and visitors to the Evgenia Medvedeva Fan Fest!

Please remember the Fan Fest guidelines:

Fan Fests
The Fan Fest (FF) is a place for fans to celebrate and praise their favorite skaters—not a place to pick apart their technique, skills, etc. As always, be respectful to each other's threads when posting. Keep discussions in the respective threads and do not bring up other skaters with the intent to bash, debate, critique, and/or compare. Keep in mind that even fans of the same skater may hold a diverse array of viewpoints and thoughts.

Do not bash other skaters or coaches in a FF

Do not troll or "police" fans in the FF to create discord (report only posts that are breaching GS Forum Guidelines - do not use this function to call on every post that just says things you do not agree with)

Continue to post praising and celebrating two time World Champion and Olympic silver medalist Evgenia Medvedeva :hap10:

Ugh, those people who are saying "it was all an act". Are they for real?? I mean, I can understand if they are paid trolls, otherwise, it's beyond my understanding.

It is always so nice to see Brian Orser coach Zhenya... his joy when she does well and how pale/concerned he seemed this go around... I think Zhenya is going to come back much stronger next year and I can’t wait for her to win gold again

Great first post, Znowflake! Welcome and post often!
I also love the interactions between Brian and Zhenya. They have a great and positive relationship. I am sure Zhenya will take the time and prepare smartly and efficently for the next season as well as enjoy her shows during the spring and summer.

I'm very sad about the boot situation. But I think she should do a senior B, as it helps with world rankings. Also, it's not a pressure cooker atmosphere. I know that it's too late for Mentor Cup or The Iceland competition, but she could be invited. Onto February, Bavarian Open, Dragon Trophy, or Ice Challenge (in Austria)
In March is Egna Trophy in Italy. I hope she goes as her fans would be thrilled.

I'm glad that she is not going the Russian Cup Final, she does not need the drama that would entail. However, she should be put on The Alternatives list as second Alternative for Worlds. Worlds are in Montreal, she can drive there if there is a last minute withdrawal.

Sometimes you gotta lose a battle to win the war.

A hard decision, but I’m so proud of you evgenia 💜. I’m sure it’s all for the best.
Not sure what’s going on with edea but Brian said that he’s had 3 students with boots problems this season 👀

Polina Shelepen: “The fact that Medvedeva came out in the short program is already a heroic act” Former Russian figure skater Polina Shelepen commented on the decision of Evgenia Medvedeva to withdraw from the free program at the Russian Championship in Krasnoyarsk. “In my opinion, Zhenya did the right thing by deciding to withdraw, because there was a great risk of injury. Two pairs of skates with you? This is a very controversial issue, because even one pair is very difficult to roll out and during the season there is not always enough time for this. I think that many skaters just do not have a second rolled pair of skates and no one takes her to the competition. - Eugene noted that the Krasnoyarsk store did not have the model and size of skates she needed. - Knowing Zhenin’s character, I think that if her models and size were skates, she would have performed on moral-volitional ones. The fact that Medvedev came out and skated like that in the short program is already a heroic act. So if there were skates, I think she would not have acted in film, but tried to perform. - So, Krasnoyarsk and a small range of skates in stock played a fatal role? “I don't think it's worth blaming any city here.” It really was an unforeseen situation. So we can say that the company that provides skates to Zhenya played a fatal role. But in fact this is just a coincidence. Although I listened to her interview, and Eugene said that the boots are not even a month old. And then a question arises for the manufacturer, how did it happen that the shoes were less than a month old, but they broke? ”Shelepen told.

Great interview!

Welcome, Znowflake! Brian is so invested in Zhenya, and it is touching to see how open his reactions are. And, yes, I am sure Evgenia will come back stronger next year! She is the epitome of resilience.

First, I'm very relieved she withdrew. NOTHING was working in practice (she popped every jump) except one 3s3t. It was dangerous and scary to watch. It's disappointing but it had to happen. I'm glad she will still skate in the gala. I'm also very happy she was at least able to show she's in good condition in the SP, even though her boots were not.

I hope Edea make a statement soon. I understand that accidents happen, but this is unacceptable.

Considering that Zhenya is the most decorated and famous ladies skater competing, and this is the absolute most important competition of the season, there's absolutely no excuse for them to not do EVERYTHING IN THEIR POWER to get her boots or fix hers. I don't care how far away or how difficult it is. There HAS to be a store that had boots for her, in a more reasonable distance than 50 hours from Moscow. There just has to be. Did they even TRY?

I can't get over it. Had Zhenya been able to skate on good boots, she could've been 3rd. Incompetency and unwillingness to help from Edea and RusFed may have just costed her the entire 2nd half of the season. I'm absolutely disgusted... She didn't even have a chance. It's so unfair.

She really should write a book of her life as a figure skater and off the ice too. But I just don't see that happening that's not Zhenyas style?

I hope she will one day executive produce a movie about her life. Netflix, are you listening? ;)

Honestly. Life is more than just medals. Zhenya had a horrible weekend, no use in denying it. But at least she has a team that will always 100% support her. No matter what. No matter the medals she brings. I‘m pessimistic, always. But I‘m sure she will show her best next season. That‘s gotta mean something, doesn‘t it?

I absolutely agree. Why is Russian nationals even running in a place where there are no adequate skating boots for top skaters? Why didn't someone rush to a nearest city and bring back a pair of skates? it was broadcast basically to the entire country. Despite all this, there is absolutely no reason to force a healthy athlete to compete with a high risk to injure oneself without a guarantee at top 3 placement. Not one. Therefore, it is a wise decisions.

Still - I am shocked at the entire boot problem and unwillingness to help. It's basically a force-majeure

Well, I would, at least, watch that movie.

Could Zhenya's story even fit into a movie? It's too long! We need a 3 season Netflix or HBO series to be able to cover all of the drama ;) Maybe Zhenya can play the antagonist (we all know who) too, just for giggles.
