2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

I personally think Ksenia going would’ve been an ethical and right decision as well.
Both girls were deserving, I wouldn’t have minded if both went, had there been 4 spots for junior ladies! :)
But I’m very happy for Maiia, she’s such a unique skater!

For me, violating the sporting principle wood be an unethical act.

I think it is correct that the decision on the third ticket is made by the Federation. This protocol insures against all sorts of ridiculous accidents, gives flexibility to the algorithm. I fully approve this. But this should be applied in extraordinary cases. For example, Kamila caught a cold and could not take part in the championship, and the federation would postpone own decision to the FCR, where in the end would give her the third ticket. It's normal, it's right.

In all other cases, violation of the sporting principle is a political game, is attempt to treat an athlete not as an individual, but as a certain figure in a strategic game. A figure whose fate must be decided in accordance with certain strategic considerations, its position on the chessboard, and its influence on other figures. This may be effective, but it is unethical by definition. And in the long-term perspective, I believe this is ineffective too.

Well, with that team selection it’s confirmed that at most Russia will have 2 ladies on the podium at JWC. But I’d bet it will only be one.

Of course, they should send Anna Shcherbakova to JWC to be sure that they can have at least one medal as was proposed at the beginning of the season, because their juniors are so weak and Anna can't be measured with Aliona and Sasha, right? :laugh2:

Well, you'll be happy about it, so it's good, right?

I’d be happier if they sent Ksenia. She clearly had a stronger season. Maiia has never scored close to 200 internationally. She is behind 6 other skaters who will be at JWC. Ksenia is behind 1, it’s just another Eteri perk and its honestly unfair to other skaters.

So in that sense, yes I’m happy that they will suffer embarrassment if she performs poorly.

I remember this hidden hope in these words:

If one of 3A were to falter at nationals, thus ending up off euro/world team, do you think Rusfed would send them to junior worlds? As a consolation prize?

Poor fellow, that time the crystal ball did not work properly.

You know that the forum have a function to look at the posts of the user, right? All your posts about Russian ladies are nasty, salty, with sarcasm. So tell fairy tales to someone else.

Dear Lord, why wish poor Maiia a bad performance, and adding to that be happy about it? That girl has done nothing wrong.
Whether or not you want to see some adults punished, wishing it to be done through kids is the worst thing ever.

Really, all?

Go back and check.
I like Evgenia, Alena, Liza and Ksenia a lot. I also like Daria...but her music choices are awful.

My other post relating to some other Russians may be more critical, but I don’t have to like all Russian ladies.

As for one of 3A faltering, it did in fact happen but no one else took the opportunity to step through the door when it did.

I mean with the strength of Russian ladies isn’t it a bit odd that an alternate for the worlds team has never even made it to the GP?

What is happening to all the great talent? they are being steam rolled and pushed aside for newer models.

To this day I would much prefer watching Anna P at her best then virtually any other Russian. But the conveyer built just keeps churning.

I didn’t wish her a poor skate or that I would be happy if that were the case. I said I would be happy with the embarrassment that would accompany it and where is your sympathy for poor Ksenia?

To me it's okay if Khromykh goes to JW cause at her best she is on par or even better than Usacheva, but Sinitsyna would have made more sense:

1) Ksenia will likely transition to seniors next season, she should have her last chance of medalling at JW. Maiia still has another year in Juniors.

2) Khromykh didn't have a great season, and some could argue her result at Nationals was influenced by the huge help she got in the SP scoring almost the same as her JGP SP performances but without the 3-3. As already discussed, most skaters there didn't get the same treatment.

3) There's now a lot of pressure on Khromykh because if she fails at medalling at JW (which in my mind is possible considering Usacheva and Valieva will likely take 2 of the 3 spots, and Liu could get the other one), people will say RusFed made a mistake not sending Kseniia considering Maiia's relatively low SB.

The girl who makes a good quad attempt today, who tomorrow will be a girl with a stable quad. Which legally won its place in the world. She should step aside because blah blah ..? I do not believe my ears. Rusfed would be crazy to go for it.

A part of me wishes that they sent Kseniia, but I'm very happy for Maiia as well. I hope she makes the most of this opportunity and proves to everyone that her JGP performances were not even close to what she's capable of

I'm worried now for Tarakanova and Vasilieva.

They both need a break next season and it would be a career changing moment for both of them if they get senior GP assighments.

BUT, for that to happen they both need to stay inside the top 24 in the Season's Best List. Vasilieva is currently 23rd (198.79) and Tarakanova 24th (194.74).

There is only two competitions left that counts for SB. Worlds and Junior Worlds.

At Worlds the threat comes from Ryabova and Paganini and maybe Safonova who might make the 190s.

The real threat though comes from Junior Worlds. Two Japanese girls and one Korean can get inside SB top 24.
But the biggest threat though comes from within Russia - Maiia Khromykh.
It would be ironic if Maiia (who is not eligible for senior GPs herself) is the one that knocks out Tarakanova.

Worlds and Junior Worlds will be make och break events for both Vasilieva and Tarakanova.

Ksenia deserved more. I hope they will send her

And I want somebody would promise me the moon.

And the uncomfortable truth is, both are dependent on the results of others, instead of having their fate in their own hands.

Russian Cup Finals could even decide over their competitive future if continued funding is dependent on the outcome, or even their actual participation.
Registration closes February 14, arrival day is the 18th. If Tarakanova pulls out on arrival day again, this won't look good on her I'd think. For her chances I worry the most. Davydov said Vasil'yeva will compete in Velikiy Novgorod.

Really hope to see Shulskaya and Tsibinova again, as they might move up in the ranks when competing well, even displacing some others.

Well, maybe Sinichka will go anyway. So far there have never been 3 Eteri girls going to JW. Usually there are 2 Eteri girls and Konstantinova. Konstantinova, who not only never qualified for JGPF, but took the places of skaters such as Gubanova and Tarakanova, who not only qualified for JGPF, but also medaled there. Last year Kostornaya got sick, so now maybe another Eteri girl will get sick.

Kostornaya didn’t get sick, she fractured her tibia after enduring inflammation and pain for almost 3 months since right after the JGPF. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone, even though I feel for Ksenia. She had a strong start to the season, but something happened and she’s been struggling since JGP Egna. On the one hand, I think an argument could’ve been made to arrange a skate off between Maiia and Ksenia given their inconsistencies, but on the other hand, Maiia beat her in the main selection competition.
