Jason Brown

I saw the Gala madness, it’s a cute idea and it’s patterned after the March Madness NCAA wagering that takes over many a workplace, whether you care about the NCAA or not.

If anyone is complaining about this, sometime skating fans take themselves wayyyyy too seriously. ;)And I would vote for Jason, but maybe predict others. Heart versus head:)

Ok, I printed this out, but how is one supposed to email this to the address in the bio? Do you just type the picks? It's really not a very well done contest, but of course, I'll vote for Jason and expect him to go far in the competiton. We'll see!

He's in the same side of the draw as Hawayek and Baker, I think he won't win. But we can try!

He's on the same side as Nathan Chen! But I'll vote for him! And so will a lot of others, if they actually find out that this is happening. I'm not going to try to submit my bracket, but I will vote on Thursday!

The first two Gala Madness brackets are up and running. Hawayek and Baker are in the lead in their bracket by about 30% points. Nathan is leading in his bracket by about 12% points. Voting numbers in the Chen vs Cain-Leduc bracket is double that of the first one which ends soon. So if you haven't voted, be sure to vote before the polls close and vote for Jason tomorrow! His poll begins on Thursday the 5th at 2PM. You have to actually vote on Twitter. This is the Gala Madness link https://usfigureskatingfanzone.com/sports/2020/2/7/gala-madness.aspx And this is the Twitter link. https://twitter.com/USFigureSkating It only takes a minute and we want Jason to do well, because his exhibitions are always awesome!

After you print and fill out the brackets, they say to scan it or take a photo with your phone and email it to the email address. That's my understanding anyway.

I'm not doing the bracket itself, but since Jason tweeted about it, I'm participating in the voting. Easy enough to do.

I was not surprised that Hwayek and Baker won as handily as they did, but was very surprised that the vote between Nathan and Cain and LeDuc was so close. Jason's bracket goes live today!

30 minutes left in Gala madness and Jason has 80% of the vote. Voting is a little low. But he'll advance one bracket.

Brian Orser gave an interview in Tallinn to the Russian press and had a couple of words to say about Jason. Translation by me.
https://m.sports.ru/amp/post/2748065/

Brian had just talked about Javi and how things started to click for him after 18 months at TCC.

And now we have the same story with Jason Brown. At the US Championship he was simply magnificent and is on an incredible rise. He began to get his quadruple jumps. We are not forcing things, of course, but are moving at our own pace, even though people are only talking about quads. But he is a patient guy and it took us exactly 18 months to get him where he is today. Tracy (Wilson) and I were amazed at the great control he showed during his skates at the U.S. Championship.

Thank you for the translation @Ross74! So good to see such high praise from Brian. "simply magnificent" about sums it up

One of Jason's goals was to impress Brian and show him that he could achieve what Brian wanted him to achieve. I think Jason reached his goal. Can't wait to see him skate in Montreal!

I'm getting Proud Papa Brian vibes. He may not have been convinced originally but I knew he'd fall in love with Jason eventually. Everyone does!

Here's a fun tidbit. A couple of days ago, the Plushenko Academy posted a video on its insta of a group of skaters trying to learn a double flip while watching a video of Jason. It translates to, "We are looking at technically well-executed jumps. For example, American skater Jason Brown. We are trying to do the double flip."

Here's the video of Plush and the students watching Jason. :) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9W4xrzo68X/

How cool! Do you recognize it? It’s at Monument from early 2018. It was for the Wall Street Journal. He was really sick - listen to his voice!

Here’s the full vid:

It would be interesting to compare with how he’s jumping now.

This is among the highest praise of all, when the great King himself, the ruler of jumps, is using our dear Jason to teach jump technique!

But of course, we have long known Plushy was one of us. Remember Sochi practice? ;)

What happened at Sochi practice??

I'm not questioning the decision to cancel Worlds, but I'm gutted for Jason that he won't be able to skate his beautiful programs again this season. He was definitely on an upswing and I was so looking forward to seeing him skate in Montreal. This has to be so hard for the skaters. :(

ETA: This made me feel a little better. Jason just responded to a tweet from a little boy he had met at the RMHC in Sapporo. The boy had watched his 4CC Seoul performance on TV. So sweet!
I think I'll go shed some different tears now.

This makes it two competitions. Nebelhorn and now Worlds. I'm wondering if he will keep the same programs next season. I would like that to be frank.

I'm disappointed, but also relieved. It was risky to try to hold this event. I was really looking forward to this! But health and safety comes first. I hope I get a chance to see Jason at some other competition, but I am so grateful for the ones that I've seen. The skaters are no doubt super disappointed. The impact of this virus is devastating, both from the actual illness and also from fear. Hoping that the skaters have a great off season and come back full of vigor and enthusiasm! And that they all stay healthy!
