2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

MOSCOW, April 28 - RIA Novosti, Anatoliy Samokhvalov. The doctor of the Russian national figure skating team, Filipp Shvetskiy, told RIA Novosti that he, together with his colleagues, began working in the Moscow Hospital for War Veterans No. 2 with patients infected with coronavirus.

The Moscow hospital for war veterans No. 2 began to receive patients with Covid-19, for which 793 beds were allocated, according to the Instagram of the medical institution.

“ We started working with severe patients in whom a new coronavirus infection proceeds against the background of comorbid pathology, that is, severe chronic pathology of organs and systems with its decompensation against the background of viral pneumonia. This is an extremely difficult category of patients requiring long-term treatment, including conditions of the intensive care unit, with a high risk of death during the entire course of treatment, " said Shvetskiy, an anaesthesiologist and resuscitator of the highest category.

Brave man, fighting the good fight in the front line with patients in the most serious condition with the highest death risk and rate. Hope for him to stay safe and healthy, and not break under the immense mental and physical strain.

Medical students in fourth year (i.e. 19-20 years old) are already commanded to attend to the needs of patients. The situation in the regions looks very grim.

Putin just addressed the regional governors and nation on live TV, ordering the lockdown to be extended and all kinds of measures to curb the spread of the pandemic, stating the worst is yet to come for the healthcare system.

FFKKR will probably soon receive Ministry of Sport orders on how to proceed, but I doubt opening rinks is high on the agenda, other than perhaps as temporary morgues.

Here is Gorshkov's latest interview on the start of season: https://sport.business-gazeta.ru/news/254469/

Wow, that is not good. It seems like Moscow and Russia in general are a few steps behind United States and a few more behind Italy, so it's likely that the worst is yet to come. It seems like the rinks are going to be closed for another few weeks, though the national team of gymnastics has said something about going back to training-I don't see that happening at this point.

At tihs point I also don't see how the figure skating season could start as normal in August.

Off topic but I know Veronika Zhilina has become a star this season, and her sister is working on triple triples too at just 9 years old. Does anyone know if she is already in Sambo 70? And I know their mom is a coach, does anyone know the name of the rink she coaches at or any info on up to what age she coached Veronika? Veronika has quite a similar jumping and skating technique to Sasha Trusova so I was wondering if she had any ties to Volkov.

I doubt about any ties with Volkov, Zhilina is from Severodvinsk, north of Murmansk, where she was training in the local club Zvyozdochka ("Little Star") lead by Lyudmila Nikolaevna Alferova.

I will correct it. To the North of Arkhangelsk. To the north of Murmansk is only the North Ocean and the pole.

Flanker most likely mixed Severodvinsk with Severomorsk, the later is definitely ~20km north of Murmansk,on the shores of Berents Sea and is one of the very few towns in North Russia with rising number of population, it's sort of Russian Norfolk, VA with about half of Russian Blue water Navy based there.

Sorry for Off Topic.

Sports Minister investigates opening training bases: https://rsport.ria.ru/20200429/1570737620.html

Most medical staff is assigned elsewhere, to help professionally in hospitals. This situation is likely to last into May-June, when said doctors otherwise need to examine all registered athletes' health and fitness for the coming season.
Which for the Khrustalniy figure skaters takes place during the Novogorsk training camp, May-June-July.

No word obviously on opening rinks, since the virus' spread and devastating effect on the public health services is not under control in Russia.

There’s this video that I’m trying to find: apparently, Alina Zagitova was being interviewed in Japan, (probably sometime right after her olympic win) and I think she had mentioned before that she wanted a dog. The guy interviewing her turned to her and said, “Here is a present for you”. Alina opened the box and she looked so happy, inside was a stuffed dog. She started petting its head. It’s supposed to be a cute video of her before she got the real Akita puppy.

I hope Alina can come back to competition.

She can certainly come back to competitions, had we not had Kostornaia/Trusova/Shcherbakova in seniors this past season Zagitova would have still been the top lady and would have won competitions this season. Now her along with Medvedeva it's a question of whether or not they can get competitive with technical arsenal that was brought this past season but also keeping an eye on what's happening with the Junior skaters who will be age-eligible for the Olympics the following season.

Right now it seems the situation is Russia is worsening by the day. What would be the minimum ice time for the young Russian skaters to get back in medal winning shape? 6 weeks? 8 weeks?
Assuming FFKKR will send inexperienced Samodelkina and Petrosyan to the first events and keep VUK for the later, decisive, events?

TAT can plead all she wants for reopening of training camp but even the Ministry for Sports cannot control the health situation and measures taken higher up. With Covid-19 infections now found in the Kremlin’s highest echelon, the government’s response will be interesting.

I think at least two months need to return most of the shape level. If no health issues encountered during the off time.
