Sasha Trusova is far from my favourite skater, but if she comes out with her however many quads programs next season and wins over all my favourites, she would be the deserving winner and I don't think the rules should be changed just because my favourites aren't winning.
Hmmm I think this can lead to an interesting debate. I think I'll make a thread? But I don't want it to turn into a bash fest.

If I remember correctly most everyone on this board thought these ISU awards were supremely stupid when they were announced...now we're arguing over them :palmf:

They are. But they‘re also an excellent opportunity for the ISU to create drama and controversy. Publicity is publicity. No better way than including both Nathan and Yuzu for Most Valuable Skater or including only one of Medvedeva and Zagitova. The fandoms are going :curse: :angry1: at each other and ISU sits back and watches. Mission accomplished.

This is the only thing deserving of an award anyway.

I believe Zhenya has visa for years in Canada but I understand what you say... I hope so..

Having long-term temporary visas isn't the same as permanent residency. Tutberidze was a citizen (I assume) returnong home, as Evgenia would be if she chose to return to Russia.

Canada is closed to all but citizens and permanent residents.

I’m also working at a COVID ICU, and it’s really hard for me not being able to help patients the way I wanted to, so maybe I deposit my frustrated hopes in this forum.
You can't quote yourself here. ;)

People have said for months that the summer heat will kill this virus. Do you concur? Sports made depends on it let alone human life.
This needs to be a Czech/Austrian Reality Show! I'm here for it!
Very good point and those are two countries that get along well I think. :)
It has been for years, we can't even blame it totally on the rise of social media, what Yuzuru was subjected to round about 2013 by Takahashi fans - sometimes at competitions pretty much to his face - is nauseating. What makes it worse is they are doing it, basically, to teenagers, at such a vulnerable time in life.

The problem is, every star has a lunatic fringe: the bigger the star, the larger the fringe who go off the rails. Yuna and Evgenia had huge fan bases at the time Adelina and Alina took their expected OGMs, so the reaction was hideous. Alina, however, is lucky that she amassed and has kept a huge fan base of her own, far bigger than the lunatic fringe that hate her. Adelina... didn't.
Well said. But the rise of social media and the viciousness of it kicked in around 2014 when Adelina unepectedly won olympic Gold on home ice amid controversy and the poor girl couldn't even have an Instagram page without being systematically attacked in a vicious and vile way. Do the thousands of people attacking Adelina non stop really think that their hero Yuna Kim would approve of such behavior? Of course not because that behavior was and is sick and demented.

I think Carolina should have won. She has perfect technique as well and did not make any mistakes. Then Yuna and then Gracie. Adelina could be forth with her crazy pre-rotations, underrotations and at least two step ups.

In an ongoing conversation that has been primarily about the mistreatment of skaters by vicious fans, including death threats in the case of Adelina Sotnikova, why do you insist on bringing up your "pet project" yet again?

Personally, I find it very distasteful.

4th? Gracie ahead of Adelina? Lol. Adelina did at that point until Alina 4 years later the most difficult routines to ever win Olympic gold in ladies figure skating. Tara Lipinski all time great figure skater and her crew pointed out before the free skate that Adelina had the highest scoring free skate and explained why. It happened. She and her coach played the system which was score the most points and win against more polished and beautiful skaters. Carolina was a lovely figure skater but she did not do the difficult routines that Adelina did. She was lucky to skate for a country with no talent and no hungry skaters. The Russinas don't have that kind of luck. ;)

By the way what are you going to say when Anna is the number one skater in the world? That is coming. She won't lose her jumps. :) I suppose you will complain about that too.

It is very distasteful but once in a while people bring it up out of the blue and it pisses us off. As strange as it sounds I sometimes think and wonder if her career and life would have been better if Adelina did not win that gold and face that hate and all the vicious comments and even threats. Social media is very dangerous. And because of the doping scandals at the Sochi Olympics I feared they would take Adelinas gold medal from her and when they officially announced a year and a half or so ago or whenever it was that they were going to let her keep it I was so happy because it was another dagger in the heart or the millions of people hating on Adelina.

I guess we shouldn't feed the troll, but I wonder why this person is in the Russian Ladies thread to begin with, as it seems she hates all Russian ladies. And the lies she makes up about pre/underrotations and edges is just appalling. Sotnikova was one of the greatest jumpers ever at the time, with a power we have only seen from perhaps Slutskaya before. And Adelina really sold both her programs at Sochi, gold medal well deserved.

:) I love this part. :)
And by the way
I like the most Kostornaya, Zagitova, Tuktamysheva, Tsurskaya, Tarakanova and Artemieva.
I dislike Shcherbakova, Trusova and Sotnikova. :)

Please notice that the category Evgenia got nomination is the "Most entertaining program", so the number of her performances doesn't really count...

TAT and others were trying to justify Alina's total exclusion from the awards (and the trailer) by arguing that, since she took a break, she couldn't even be considered to win any of the awards, which isn't true because ISU only took into consideration the Grand Prix and Euros/4CC, not nationals or challengers.

Alina competed in 3 of those 4 events, while Evgenia competed in only 2.

But anyway, better not keep this awards discussion going... Like others pointed out, it's not worth fighting over :noshake:

I quoted myself on accident, I’m sorry. I can’t say for sure what’s gonna happen around the world, but in my country it’s currently hot and the numbers are just getting worse. As this pandemic depends a lot on governmental decisions, I think the key will be adapting to different levels of social distancing according to the numbers. However, in my country, people don’t take social distancing seriously and disrespect it all the time, as we’re not in full lockdown. Here, things will just get worse in the next months. My epidemiology professor, who’s counseling my state’s governor, said he thinks we’ll be in an on/off social distancing mode, according to the numbers. Numbers get lower, we can make social distancing more flexible. Flexibility will make the number of cases grow, and we’ll need to be more strict with social distancing again. And so it goes until we have a vaccine and/or a cost-effective drug. However, this is in my country, I can’t say anything about the other places, because after two months of making charts every day with the numbers worldwide, I was starting to get depressed and I just don’t want to know about numbers all the time anymore. I check things once a week. In terms of skating, I think events should be held without an audience, and judges should watch and judge on video, as I read somewhere ISU is very worried about the judges’s health, they’re mostly elderly, right? In terms of spreading the disease, it will spread, of course, by having these tournaments, but we’re talking about careers and lives. If the commerce and the industry can reopen and still work during covid, so should athletes. Will it be 100% safe? No. But I think life has to move on where it’s possible. If we had figure skating in my country, for example, I would say figure skating should have the next season cancelled. And the trips for the events should have reduced number of staff members too. Again, not ideal. And maybe just allow the tournaments in countries where the numbers are low. I don’t even know what I’m talking about, this is my fan heart speaking louder than my doctor-to-be heart. By no means I’m trying to minimize this disease, but with organization (and I mean crazy/strict/OCD level organization) and maybe special flights, just for athletes, or where the athletes don’t mix with the regular travelers, maybe it could be possible. Maybe. Is it feasible and/or financially interesting? Probably not. But if the ISU really wanted, it could be possible. Who knows. Thank god I’m not responsible for these sports’s decisions, it’s so hard, and I don’t even think I have the best opinion about it.
