Wow, Alina's fanbase is super strong - Eteri is being berated for inviting to watch ISU Awards ceremony.
Poor PR-management by ISU - should've recognized how absence of mega popular skater among nominees may hurt the event... :disapp:

What who is berating the queen of coaches and why?

To be honest in this case I would be glad if Eteri would ignore that completely. I can imagine why ISU made her to invite, controversy attracts attention, and Eteri in her postition probably can't dare to send them where they belong, but still I would like to hear how she tell them something from the heart about how they treat her skaters (Alina and Anna).

How who treats Alina the ISU? Ever since she won that Olympic gold the international skating Union has been out to stop someone like her from a country like hers from winning Olympic gold again. They didn't even try to hide it and now the Bugaboo of raising the age limit to 18 is back stronger than ever. EG should let them have it because they're trying to stop what Eteri is best at doing.

Zhenya will train with Buyanova at CSKA until the Canadian borders open.

Ugh what horrible news. I was hoping she would get a coach to train with who is on the way up not on the way down. At least Zhenya will have major ice time and be able to get into some kind of form before heading home to Toronto.

Why Anna, though? She‘s a nominee for best costume (and rightfully so) and she was included in the promo video for the awards. I know many thought she should have been nominated for best newcomer but Young has a case for that as well (not purely in terms of medal count but she’s broken quite a few records such as being the first and only lady to land 3A at the YOG) and Anna got best costume instead, so I really don‘t see what else they could have done. :think:

Evgenia has trained with Buyanova before, when at CSKA. From an interview with Brian last year:

-Many people where surprised when, after the national championships, Medvedeva did not immediately return to Canada, but for a while she was training at CSKA.
- She needed to check her back and be under the supervision of specialists for a while. At the same time, Evgenia also needed to train somewhere. I contacted Tarasova and Elena Buyanova, and I trust both of them very much. I have a normal working relationship with the Russian Federation of Figure Skating, I also communicate with a lot of Russian coaches and I understand that a lot of them are truly great.

She’ll be in contact with Brian and Tracy at all times, Buyanova will only support her and provide advice, it‘s not like she‘s suddenly her main coach. Zhenya trained at CSKA last year as well and there was no problem. Buyanova‘s good for skating skills and artistry, she can refine Zhenya‘s presentation of her programs with her, maybe Averbukh will take a look at them as well. For technical stuff, Brian will hopefully be available. I imagine it to be similar to how Nathan trained with Raf via Skype.

Costume is rather a prize for the designer than for the skater. Not that Ryabenko or Bobkova don't deserve recognition, but that should be a category for designers. With Anna nominated for costume it's something like a consolation prize for being left the third behind Sasha "the quad queen" and Aliona "the artistic one" (by appreciation, not by results). So when the question "don't we want more diverse category than just three Eteri girls" was probably asked (or whatever way they decided the three names), she was the one who was left behind even though she was above You and Sasha the whole season (apart from results how about first lady with 4Lz in a combo or first lady with two 4Lz in a competitive program).

But that's not just about the skating awards, it's rather the top of the iceberg than the problem itself, the last season scoring was weird on several occations (concerning precisely Anna and Alina), we've talked about it already (without consent), I don't think it's necessary to repeat once said arguments.

ISU works in mysterious ways, they did what they did and I was reconciled with that, cause as I've said competition results are what matters. But I'm little disappointed that Eteri did consent to propagation of that mess, even though she looks like Galadriel in her speech.

That was my point, you can't predict what will happen. It will depend more on Zhenya herself than on her coach, as i think is always the case when skaters come to a certain age

And Zhenya is also used to the Canadian system now, where skaters know hot to train by themselves. Give Zhenya a break, please.

She has been a disaster coach for girls and women in the past couple years. Hoping EM can basically coach herself until she gets back to TCC. But I don't see evgenia going back to Canada until maybe September or October.

There are more on the list too. But people want to stick their head in the sand like ostriches. Um okay. This coach in one year killed the careers of Elena Maria and Polina when they went to her to this former Olympic champion coach to resurrect their careers. Buyanova also critically wounded the career of Nastya stabbing her in the back publicly after they split up leading to no events last season for nastya not even a stinking Challenger which means no ranking this season for Nastya. I say good luck to Zhenya. At least she has ice and will get into form soon. Hopefully she'll be back with her real coaching team in a few weeks but with the way the pandemic won't leave the world alone it may be a few months.

Sad to learn that the Junior Grand Prix season has been cancelled. But hardly any fans ever go to those events so I thought this junior season would happen. Kamila should petition the Russian Federation to skate in the Russian Cup Series and at least one Challenger. We can't have arguably the best skater in the world not skating in anything other than Nationals this season.

It's sad for all the Juniors around the world that won't get Skate in Junior Grand Prix events. But that's Sports and that's life.

i guess i'm a little confused about the concern over training at CSKA. i'm under the impression she is there just to be in a training environment, not necessarily to be taught by Buyanova. i'm sure she will give her some guidance when needed, but i think Zhenya will be coaching herself most of the time.

You being a little disappointed in Eteri over this matter is shocking to this board. Add moi to the disappointed list. Why would she do this? Especially since that organization is out to change everything she's done with the young lady figure skaters in the last 10 years.

Exactly, out of this circus that is the ISU awards, the only "significant" recognitions for the skaters could be Most Valuable Skater (if It were properly defined anyway), Best Newcomer and Lifetime Achievement.

Anna being nominated for Best Costume instead basically means she was snubbed. Young You has a good season but no way she did better than Anna overall.
Many of this shortlist choices seem to have been made for diversity reasons or because the awards are heavily North America biased, after all, USA-Canada seem to be the main audience target, so they want to make sure that audience is happy with the results.

As for Eteri doing the promo video, I doubt she takes the awards seriously anyway and I doubt they'll give it to her (the audience would be angry ) so probably she said why not?

Rusfed has informed their skaters that current season will most probably be limited to internal competitions only (championship, cup, and special 'challengers') since ISU is unable to organize international competitions due to various restrictions imposed by member states.

I don't presume anything in the sense of how Buyanova can "destroy" Zhenya, I'm not at all concerned about that. I have simply expressed my opinion to Buyanova's recent "killcount"

Well, that's a comfort (but a small one of course) I've started a habit of watching domestic Russian competitions this season (partly to follow some really nice skaters I saw at Junior/Senior Nationals who can't make the national team yet) and I'm glad that they at least are going ahead!
Also, Russian domestic competitions for ladies are sort of de facto JGPF/Euro/World anyway...

Maybe because what lopsilceci has written, I also presume she can't afford any hostility that could damage her skaters in the future. Also remember that in the past nor her nor any of her skaters ever expressed any objection about scoring etc. , so it could be just continuation of the same attitude. But I would be still rather if she would've stayed completely out of it.

I thought people were dissing Buyanova, not Evgenia, so... "Give Buyanova a break, please"?

Jokes aside, she clearly isn't a bad coach, I actually think she's somewhat similar to Chebotaryova (Kolyada and Stasya's coach).
I think she gives good basics to her students, but they're not developed to show their full potential in competitions.
Adelina was a great skater, but rarely had clean skates. I think it's quite similar to Stasya and Kolyada's situation.
Clearly both are talented, I think Kolyada could've landed 5Lz frankly speaking, but he rarely shows what he's got in competitions.
