It’s spread online that Diana is going to switch partners to the current junior world champion (that’s supposedly why Eteri was in the US). I mean, between her and Gleb, I totally agree he’s the weak of the pair. He lacks charisma, while Diana is star on her own, has lots of charisma and potential to be a star (not necessarily a champion, but definitely a star).

Everything is possible, though Avonley/Vadym announced their split pretty long time after Eteri was back in Russia and it looks it was actually Avonley who iniciated their split. Also, just recently Igor Shpilband talked about how well it is going with Diana/Gleb: https://fs-gossips.com/igor-shpilband-there-should-not-be-idols-in-ice-dance-that-cannot-be-beaten/

There would also take time for Vadym to be released and gaining new affiliation. We will see.

By "online rumours" you mean TSL. They are the ones that started all these rumours.

Or maybe she just wanted to spend time with her 17 year old daughter who lives in a foreign country during a pandemic and which she barely sees throughout the year due to them living worlds apart.

I would not call Gleb weak. He has good edges, which are essential for being a good ice dancer. They have been only skating together for 2 seasons and are juniors, personality and charisma do not necessarily grow over night, they can develop with more experience and by trying different styles and choreographers.

TSL? OK, that explains a lot

I totally agree with you, I was just commenting on the rumors, not trying to confirm them.
I think Eteri wanted to spend with Diana, or whatever, none of my business.

But I have to say Diana shines more than Gleb. Maybe, he’ll develop more, but he still needs the extra factor.

I also think Blonde Diana looks like a 20 year old, sexy tango dancer for some reason, maybe she should go back to being blonde when she goes to Seniors [emoji23]

No Tokyo Games likely means no Beijing either, IOC’s Dick Pound says

My feeling is that Tokyo and Beijing will not happen unless a vaccine is available by then. :(

Beijing is like 19 months away. Why are they panicking? It will be a vaccine well before then and they may have to limit The Spectators to a certain degree.. we're also going to have to learn to live with Coronavirus Everyday People Like Us here posting at this form and Superstar athletes an individual sports or team sports are going to have to learn to live with it. The world isn't going to stop because of covid-19. But I guess Olympics sports with their leaders scared of their own shadows will.

I never had any problem with Plushenko as a person or skater, possibly even a coach. But he’s became increasingly alike to his wife in his words, posts and scandals he’s getting into, and I don’t like that at all.
I mainly don’t understand his wife, she’s done quite some controversial things in her life, she’s obsessed with views and likes on Instagram to a worrying degree.
She constantly is in one controversy or the other, there’s a new one every week, like coming in just this week, because she DMd some other celebrity and called them cheap and not worthy of LV, because of LV promo photo they made.
Other Russian celebrities have a lot of controversies with her, and it’s not because they’re just a jealous bunch of haters, let’s be real here.
For example, a football player once commented that it looks like her son is forced to be filmed in these constant Instagram videos. Her reply was making her son record a video speaking back to that football player, that he’s wrong and little Sasha is totally going to show him who’s the boss when they meet in person.
I don’t know if that’s the right response in that situation, I personally would never do that :(

Well, you weren't too wrong. ;) You don't like what she is doing but you are following her.;) This is her goal. She reached cca 600 000 followers during the quarantine. She has 3,4 millions now. This is her work she is an influencer and a very good agent of some famous Russian pop star. If you have many followers you will receive goods from famous brands, and some good contracts. Look at their contract with Porsche. You don't take seriously the Russian celebrities' debate, that footbalist was Arshavin, they are friends and so on.

Needless to say, she was extremely proud when one audio clip of her son became a TikTok trend in Russia. That audio clip being from one of the videos where her son said he’s tired of being constantly filmed. I don’t know if she’s not taking her son‘s words seriously, but it’s very worrying.

That video was posted by Yana. And became TikTok trend.

She also recently started having friendly commentary exchanges with one infamous blogger, you know, the one which wants to „slash 16yo‘s face“. I hope and believe she doesn’t realize who she was talking to.

Yes I hate it, too! That awful person supported them in her IG account .

I don’t follow her, but I regularly watch some videos from russian youtube to keep up, like famous author Sergei Minaev does reviews of recent news in Russia, so some things he mentioned got stuck in my head because of how weird they are. Notably, Yana topic comes up.
You don’t have to follow someone to hear some big stories they make.
I ain’t sure her and Arshavin are friends, who are just messing with each other, definitely did not look like it from their exchanges.
I don’t really care about her work and why she does what she does, all of it looks strange to me sometimes, but that doesn’t really matter. I only care that little Alex is put through constant filming and exposed to social media way too early, imo. I just... I wouldn’t do that personally, that’s all.

"little Alex" is Gnome Gnomich?

What I find a bit ironic about Plushenko saying that Sasha deserved best newcomer is that it brings attention to the idea that Sasha actually was doing pretty well with her previous coaching team and her results and achievements were so good, they didn't justify a coach change.

Also, he makes clear that he should not be trusted when he talks about his skater or their rivals.
Sasha was the most exciting newcomer at the start of the season, yet when the 3A crossed path she always finished 3rd.
Her talent is great, but she had a bad year in deliviring her best in competition (that's why a new enviroment could help)
So, when he says she should have won he proclames himself as a bull***er.

I can advocate for Anna, because she really grown up during the season in her ability to express herself on the ice and communicate with the audience, but not for Sasha taht for me failed to make the mental transition to senior, but she's the youngest: she will deliver

And again on plushenko: not being able to admit Aliona deserved the award makes him also a very poor sportsman.
Respect fo the competitors is all in sport.
I just hope he won't teach this attitude to Sasha that is an adorable girl.

"Congratulation to Aliona for a fantastic debut. We look forward to meet her on the ice and give it all to finish on top"
Too difficult?

I know strictly speaking she‘s not a singles skater anymore but she is a Russian lady:

Alena Kanysheva training ice dancing basics. Every time I see her skate I’m reminded how much I miss her, I really thought she’d have a decent shot at making the Olympics. But looks like she‘s working hard, so I wish her all the best. :)

If she is paired with Nikita Nazarov, who is in my opinion the best male dancer coming of the juniors (sorry Vadym Kolesnik), she will have a bright future :agree: The problem with Nazarov was his height, and i only hope Kanysheva is enough 'light' for him to lift her, as she looks that way.

She looks so grown up! The twizzles aren’t great yet, but the choreography is amazing! She’ll have a great future in ice dance.

This small biography and clip of Maria Butyrskaya's win in 1999 often disappears from Youtube so I'm going to post it here and hope it lasts more than a couple days.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyp2xnlzx8w

It was Butyrskaya that got me interested in figure skating back in 1994 when I first saw her at Europeans. I remember I was soo happy for Maria when she won the gold here. Great stuff. My favourite skater ever!

Just a fabulous post Mac thank you. Especially your last 2 paragraphs. That should have happened.
