Evgenia Medvedeva

Yeah, Zhenya didn't look fit and she was so exhausted after the program, but I LOVE the choreography so much. Both her sp and lp have the potential to become masterpieces!!
I'm so proud of Zhenya for hanging in there. She's a true champion!!

She has to fully isolate in Canada for 2 weeks and if Russia had a surge in cases she may have to isolate for 2 weeks when she came back to Russia, so a month off the ice for a couple weeks training

That would be tough to deal with. Zhenya is better off staying put in Moscow.

From the videos I saw yesterday it look like there was a big crowd in that big Mega Sport Arena. What was the attendance? Honestly it was shocking to see so many people there and I think most of them were not wearing masks.

I've made my views on the SP known in the general pages and I don't want to bring in negativity here. But, the FS I thought was absolutely incredible and ingenious with the different unique moves. It could be her best FS program ever for me although 2016 Worlds will take some beating.

Zhenya seems insecure or depressed. The lack of presence and physical support weighs :(. I think that's the problem, maybe some physical discomfort.

I LOVE Alegria and I've been waiting for it all this time, this program needs to be polished and it will be ICONIC. She looked faster too (compared with sp). I'm very curious about the costume she will wear.
This Pandemic context is really unfortunate, I don't know if it will be safe to continue with this season, if for some reason everything is canceled, I would like Zhenya to keep Alegría.

About Mascarade, as I've always said: I don't like the classics very much, it's difficult to do a performance with them without being compared to someone else's in the past, but the stsq were wonderful. We all agree that the speed was too slow, hope I can see a better version of this.

P.s: do you think that 3Lo-3T can mutate to 3Lo-3Lo?

The FS is going to be really fun to watch, I think. It's so different from pretty much everything else that was presented today, and the StSq will be amazing, I think.

"Usually I was very worried after a bad performance. Now I'm not worried because I know that I will rest, come to my senses and everything will be so much better. I realized that a bad skate here does not mean a bad skate in a competition." Zhenya in an interview.

She has grown so much. She went through that really tough post-Olympics season, and learned a lot about picking herself up time and time again, and how to put a bad skate in perspective. She knows how to deal with off days.

I don't think Zhenya looks insecure. But with not being able to go back to Canada, she probably is a little depressed about it. And I love Allegria, too. :)

Here's the FP from today, including the clip of Eteri applauding: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRwEV26VwDM A historic moment. Also, rewatching it, she did a pretty good job, despite the fall, the pop, and whatever happened with that one axel and the cartwheel. The bones of the programme are there, and they really do suggest that it will be good.

The skid spiral-cartwheel is going to be amazing when the ice isn't so fresh that her gloves slip on it! Thanks for adding that clip, Lunalovesskating.

Okay so I read on Med Nation that it may be a pinched nerve in her back. The plus side to being in Russia is she was getting treatments there previously for her back. Remember when she stayed there a while after Christmas and Brian said she was getting her back treated.

I agree with Fluture, I would rather her withdraw but knowing her she wont. At the same time maybe it is better save your strength for next season. She hasn't tried that approach yet. :)

18-22 September 2020 Syzran
10-13 October 2020 Moscow

So guessing after the second stage, she may or may not go to Canada and come back for Russian Nationals.

To me the LP has huge potential! Today it was rough and Zhenya has to do some work, but once polished it will be masterpiece! I just hope nothing really serious with her back. As for Canada I don't see her returning there in the near future and I think she definitely needs someone to be with her, it looked lonely...
And strangely, now somehow i'm much more positive than yesterday after the SP :)

I think the FS has great potential, it is different from the rest and if Zhenya is healthy and in good physical shape she can do a great job with it. The problem is that she is not in those conditions now and the fact that she competes in a week makes it more difficult. She says she had some bad test skates last year, flew to Canada the next day and competed doing 2 clean performances. It's true but she was healthy. The situation is different now. That is why I do not understand her words about a similar situation now. But I don't judge her at all. On the contrary, I have a lot of respect for her.

I also suppose she must be fed up with this situation and it makes sense. She needs to go back to TCC with her coaches is clear. I suppose that the choice of the first 2 stages in RC was thought in terms of being able to return to Canada if the borders open. I don't know if she can change the stage now because I doubt that the borders will open. So there is no need to compete next week. But it's clear that in order to restore her health and correct all her technical problems she needs to get back there.

In case you haven't seen it yet, I share this video. I must say that I cried watching it.

She didn’t look insecure, she looked like she didn’t care.

If she’s injured, she shouldn’t have participated.

If she’s not, then the situation is really bad.

She usually shows a lot of passion, but her performances were very weird.

I also wonder if everything is ok with her mentally, because she wasn’t in her usual humble behavior of saying what was good or not, she was kinda arrogant, like “I did fine for what I wanted to”. What did she want? A total mess?

Okay, I finally watched her fs and I really liked it. I do think she had the best program, even if it was the worst performance. It was very unique and the choreography is already quite good. The cartwheel is quite cheeky as well. And maybe quite hard to do on ice lol

Some thoughts after a very stressful weekend: I like Masquerade Waltz, I LOVE Alegria. Obviously neither was performed well, but there's just so much potential there. For her FP especially, it's very physically demanding. Once she has the stamina to perform at her max, I think it will be my favorite program of hers. So fun and lively.

Like everyone else I'm worried about her current state. I desperately hope whatever is hindering her isn't too serious. The only thing keeping me calm is that Zhenya herself is very composed and not at all discouraged in her interviews.

I wouldn't be so concerned if it were not for her first competition being next week. She obviously won't be in peak shape by then. On the other hand, isn't Anna her only real competition there? So maybe it's not that big of a deal if she isn't fully ready?

Whatever happens next, I'm just grateful that Evgenia is still with us, competing, with two new promising programs. It’s a privilege to lose sleep over her.

Speaking of Syzran, has the competitor list been released yet? And how would Zhenya need to perform order to qualify for RusNats? Maybe she’s planning on doing the bare minimum needed to qualify, then taking time to heal before RusNats?

yep...I mean some of the things said were not even about the skating but just stuff he's made up....about her creating drama, pretending, all show, blah blah....I mean Jonathan even criticized her outfit...WTF??
