This is so ironic, especially considering just recently posters were quoting Evgenia’s reply to a fan, that’s she found her place and definitely not leaving. And people responded that it reminded on how she spoke in 2018 before leaving Eteri.
and the boom! The deja vu didn’t come out of nowhere, it’s the same thing as 2 years ago.
What can I say, I’m not all too surprised she did that. Poor Brian, bless his soul, I think he’s kinds happy to be out of russian drama for good.
But also, kind of hilarious... the 2 year drama where fans were building the image of Eteri “the evil”, and Evgenia, who survived the horrors of Chrystal dome, and it all came crushing down that quick as she returned back there saying, she spent her whole life there and that “it feels good when everything’s good”. Oh my, oh my.


also, fans desperately trying to find an angle, where it looks like the tragic story built up in their minds still makes sense. Come on... if you loved her as an athlete and as a skater, you wouldn’t care. But most seem to love the idealistic image of a struggling victim they had in their minds.

It’s evident that none of students that left actually hated Eteri. Polina’s back as a coach with Eteri, after coming back and making up with her last year. Shelepen did the same thing. Panenkova also expressed her desire to be back to Tutberidze. Elizabet went back and was happy as ever to train with Eteri. Now Evgenia too.

i think they said that to save face for both. So it wouldn’t look like Evgenia came back begging, and neither Eteri making an offer. Whoever made the first step, fed’s helping them to save face.
There’s no way someone would just force them in one room, if at least 1 of them didn’t want that. What do people think? That Rusfed locked them up in a room together saying “you won’t come out until you make up?”

Nothing is less durable than the words "never" and "always" said to the media/publicly.

But I am not so sure that is a good thing. The Russian Cup stages will only get tougher later on. For now, the competition at the first stage seemed reasonable (and Sintisyna has withdrawn, that is one threat gone). All the others are probably not "ready" as well. And she only has to finish around 5th place to be sure to qualify for RusNats. That task won't be easier in later stages...

I agree. I think this will be the easiest cup and even a watered down version , she would place at least 5th. Plus the audience would be thrilled to see her with Eteri.

I believe she is injured, by that meaning back issues. That is for real. If she is not stressing her back she can get better, it doens´t mean she will be out the whole season.

I believe Brian and Med was discussing after test skates she needed to rest to deal with the back issues.

Don't be surprised to see her back fixed now by the magician doctors of Sambo-70.

Honestly, no one knows the true reasons for this particular training choice. Obviously, Evgenia needed a coach and she couldn't return to Canada due to physical concerns. Pretending we know more than this is just lying. Also stating that this proves Eteri is a great coach loved by her former students, is clearly untrue as abuse victims frequently return to their abusers ( not saying Eteri is abusive, just saying that a former student returning doesn't prove anything) for many reasons.

I hope the best for Medvedeva, but I think she is clearly dealing with back injuries and I can't say that Eteri's team has a great track record of helping students with back injuries successfully return to competition. (obviously, most coaching teams don't). Eteri also doesn't have a great track record coaching adult women. Her adult skaters have all struggled with jumps and consistency issues, just as Med has the last few years. Adjusting to growth and injuries is challenging for all skaters. If a skater wants a long career in the sport, they will need to be prepared to go through ups and downs. Med apparently loves skating so I hope she is able to continue skating in any training environment she chooses, with reasonable expectations, and a healthy amount of rest.

well, wasn’t Evgenia funding her training by herself anyway? That’s what everyone said for all this time. So what’s their pull there? The funding athletes receive covers the needs, but would you realistically think she would run to Eteri for a 500$-1 grand a month she received as her Team Russia member salary?
She just bought a house in Moscow, where rent and prices are sky high. doesn’t look like she struggling financially. She’s a millionaire.

Eteri also isn’t the person who would take anyone she wouldn’t want. She’s not the biggest person in the Fed, but no one will make her coach anyone against her will.

I think the truth is a lot simpler. Evgenia left because of that Olympic silver. She was disappointed, felt betrayed and that motivated her move. Of course with the help of TAT.
at this point she probably already knows Eteri did sincerely want her to win. She just wouldn’t let herself betray Alina either.

Evgenia also said this in her interview, that „sooner or later she was going to make it up with Eteri anyway“. I think she just knows that she can’t live with this open wound and open conflict forever.

I think in the end people are complicated and while Evgenia and Eteri were probably hurt by each other it is clear they cared about each other too. I wouldn't look too much into it.

Unfortunately I think this situation was out of anyone's control. It was clear that Evgenia needed more coaching and training stability. And there was no way to know when she would be allowed back into Canada. My guess is that the RusFed probably applied a little pressure but in the end I think she is an adult and made the choice she thought would help her keep skating.

Also, Evgenia is an adult. I think she likely learned many valuable lessons while training overseas, lessons and experiences she isn't going to just forget. I don't think moving to Brian was a waste of time, I think it is a valuable part of her career. She is a beautiful skater- I hope we get to keep seeing her skating for a lot longer.

Well, she is part of the Russian National Team, so she gets funding by RusNats, that's for sure. If that is some kind of side income or her main income, I wouldn't know. And I have no interest in Medvedeva's private life and private finances. But there is money between her and RusFed, Surely, that makes RusFed have a say in what they want.

Where was Zhenya supposed to go? Lord know when she would be able to go back to Canada. Maybe next spring. Face time was not working out with Brian. Not Brian fault. Buyanova did nothing for her like with Masha Elena Polina and Nastya so again where was Zhenya supposed to go? She went back to the place she knows and the people she knows. Maybe lightening will strike and she will do well under TT. She will have the Fed behind her and Eteri telling the Fed when and where Zhenya will skate. If it doesnt work out Zhenya can go into coaching or any other avenue of life she want to back in the good grce of all Russian sports fans. Dont under estimate the importance of that. The hysteria of Zhenya leaving Eteri is gone it history.

Covid changed everything. Zhenya was not immune to the after effects.

A big part of me always will believe, regardless of the lack of evidence, the reason she left Eteri in the first place was a knee jerk reaction to losing the Olympics to a fellow training mate. She could lose gold to anybody else and she would be hurt and upset but wouldn't have left Eteri. She dominated the sport of two years and then had to briefly step off the ice due to injury only to come back and get dumped by the judges for someone she trained side by side with who only turned senior that year, the Olympic year. She came back and easily beat everyone just as before EXCEPT her training mate. That really had to hurt.

Maybe I'm naive but I don't think either one ever disliked the other even during the lowest point of the mess. If anything part of the reason it got so nasty is because they were so close and we all say things we don't really mean when we feel hurt by a loved one. Both had their reasons for believing they were betrayed by the other. Evgenia upset about Alina turning senior the Olympic year and Eteri upset the student she treated as a daughter left her. I would like to believe that even if the Russian fed. is responsible for this reunion that both of them are quietly and secretly happy and relieved about it.

I'm so unimpressed with TAT right now. She comes off so dodgy here, how could you possibly trust her?! I sure hope she doesn't take a "liking" to any of Plushy's students like she has to Zhenya Med. I don't want to see her playing mind games with the Academy.

Anyway I have no idea what to think about this transfer except Eteri's method of dealing with back injuries is non-existent it seems do I hope Med makes it!
