Yuna Kim's style is very different from any of the Russians, never mind Kostornaia and Valieva. Her style is also different from Hanyu's.

Valieva is most similar to Scherbokova.

But Trusova is improving the components, while also having way more difficult technical contents than the other contenders here.

Wake me up when judges will start to look at the lutz edge on all Tutberidze skaters.
Again...she didn't deliver that difficult technical content cleanly:shrug:
What the Eteri girls' Lutz edge has to do with it, I don't understand, but to note, Trusova only got an ! on her Lip, and still got scored +0.95 GOE for it.

Sorry if I did the link wrong - I'm on mobile browser right now - but has this been mentioned earlier? Does anyone know why Alyona is apparently learning a step sequence to Romeo and Juliet?

I'm so confused. This isn't me hating R&J, this just confuses me because (1) She's already been Juliet, and (2) Sasha also has Juliet...

What matters is history, and not titles per se.

Examples:
- Midori Ito never won the Olympics, but she's still legendary.

- Sasha Cohen never won the Olympics, but she's still considered one of the best skaters ever.

- Mao Asada never won the Olympics, but she's still THE Mao Asada.

- Michelle Kwan never won the Olympics, but she's still the skater who most generations are able to remember as a great skater".

- Carolina Kostner never won the Olympics, but she's still, for many, the true winner of their hearts.

Now, let's talk about some very forgettable Olympic Gold Medalists...

- Sarah Hughes ....

- Tara Lipinski, who basically retired after the Olympics, and now does a mediocre job as a FS commentator.

- Adelina Sotnikova, who didn't even deserve to win the Olympics, and basically disappeared from the FS world after that, only to come back to promote Anorexia in social media.

Alexandra Trusova has already made history, and will still make: first lady to land a hundred million quads, first senior to land a quad and a triple axel in the same competition (Sofia Akatieva is not a senior, and Cup of Russia is not international). The girl who started a revolution in Ladies Figure Skating.

Aliona Kostornaia, one of the best skaters ever, alongside the greatest of all time (Yuna Kim, Carolina Kostner, Michelle Kwan).

Anna Shcherbakova, who combined grace and elegance with the power of quads (questionable technique, I know), and being one of the most musical skaters ever.

These girls will never be forgotten, no matter which medal they get.

I've come to realize that the results in figure skating are not what matters the most, but the way the sport moves us, the way we feel when we watch these skaters and how emotional we get. That's it.

But I won't ignore the corruption... Jamais.

Maybe she was learning her step sequence when Sasha did a runthrough of her RJ program at the same time?

She's practicing her own FS while R&J is playing in the background, it happens all the time in rinks.

Great point! Even though I don't agree with some of your champions and non-champions :D

Junior or new seniors outscoring "old" seniors is an history repeat. Each time fed clearly show who they support.

- They said to Radionova that she won't ever beat Medvedeva again when they gave Medvedeva almost 80 in SP and 155 in FS at her 1st nats as senior. She got the message, if it wasn't clear enough, at euros where despite her being clean, Medvedeva with two falls beat her by 4 points.

- It was the end for Medvedeva when Zagitova got scores so high at euros that even clean Medvedeva probably couldn't have beaten her. And she never beat senior Zagitova.

- It was the end for Zagitova when rookies with ultra C stepped in the game and TP suddenly started to call her URs more often.

- Now if Valieva skate clean-ish skate after clean-ish skate it will be the end for those who were seniors before her.

If Kostornaya get her 3A back and deliver clean programs she has a chance though.

But fed shift their support probably because the next generation always has better "arguments".

What bugs me the most about this is that in pretty much all these examples, judges were boosting and favoring these skaters when they were younger only to drop them cold as soon as the next big thing showed up. If every skater had their strengths and weaknesses called fairly, we'd probably get better competitions and skaters wouldn't get so confused/frustrated at their marks

They've made it all but impossible for her to win. Kamila has a quad, she would have to completely fail her program to lose.

What's the point in trying? They've said it loud and clear by giving Sasha with a fully rotated 3A a score barely better than what she's scored internationally. "Get out of here, you have no future."

May as well have given Kamila the gold and saved everyone's time and money.
How many quads does Sasha have? It is not impossible for her to win. And if it is, this is just Russia.

Her program consists of several music scores by Abel Korzeniowski. Nocturnal Animals, W.E. and maybe also R&J ?Seems like they are doing a AK medley. Or as somebody already said she may be skating to someonelses music.

Sasha lands 3 quads clean, which is something she has already done - 6 bonus points, BV of a jump (aside from GOEs). Kamila on the other hand didn’t land 2 quads cleanly yet. However she’ll get all spin bonuses, that’s for sure.

I wouldn’t call it “just” Russia. She especially doesn’t want to be losing in Russia, not with Beijing (hopefully) coming up. It’s one thing to potentially be behind Kamila. But being behind her, Daria, and Anna domestically? She’d have a very hard time making the Olympic team. And if the scoring keeps going like this it’s possible even though internationally there’s zero way she loses to Daria right now.

I really hope she knocks it out of the park tomorrow. I’d love to see her win gold here!

I wondered that too, but the music really syncs up to the movements so I really thought it must be choreographed to the music playing.

Ohh, this makes sense - Thank you!

I disagree about Anna.

Well, the way it gets faster and faster, we might end up with young all-time-stars lasting for half-a-season and giving way to still newer, younger, more shiny, more promising, more all-time more stars....

Fran's comment:
"Valieva scoring 85 points :D
is there even a point left in watching any of this, I feel so detached... literally nothing makes sense anymore, this sport has turned into such a joke."
