Evgenia Medvedeva

Team Tutberidze made a post about their postponed ice show that will be moved to next year. From the photo I think we can assume that Zhenya will be there too ;)

Sure she will. One of the main motivations of getting Zhenya back, imo, was her draw in shows. Her time in competition won’t be too long but she’ll always attract large crowds to any commercial event she does. Her fanbase is huge and if you combine that with Alina‘s fanbase... well, there you have it. The show’s guaranteed to be a success.

I find it irresponsible with the virus situation right now but whatever. It feels like Russia (and generally the whole world) is already acting as if nothing is happening, so it’s not like I can change anything anyway. Will be a safe source of income for her if she doesn’t make it back to competition and we‘ll get to see her skate. Good for her, I guess.

Edit: also, that picture makes me emo. Simpler times. :(

You speak of irresponsible, but they have postponed it into 2021, so i dont find that irresponsible ,?. I find it a responsible action to postpone it and move it to 2021.

They haven’t really postponed it NOW, though, it was always scheduled to be held in spring 2021. They canceled it in March and now promise the show‘s going to be held, even though we have no inkling how the situation‘s going to be like in a few weeks, let alone half a year. But oh well. There’s even more irresponsibility happening in skating at the moment. Such as the insistence by the ISU to hold GP events even if one of the comps + the final have already been canceled/postponed.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m looking forward to seeing Zhenya skate in this show. It’s just that I‘m pretty frustrated with hearing of new virus cases among skaters every day and the apparent carelessness everyone involved treats the situation with. Not TeamTut or Zhenya‘s fault, of course, but... I fear they’re not invincible and I worry for them and their skaters‘ health.

You make it sound like Zhenya is poor, come on, really?! Zhenya has many sources of income. Roles as an ambassador for the Olympic Commitee and the Sports Ministry, Sailor moon show, she still has the Stars on Ice show in Canada (the athletes are usually paid in advance I heard from some people, therefore everyone will be there once it can take place), appearances at Rostelecom, the ice hockey show. One of the hosts (Emma) from Match TV, who often interviews Zhenya, said Zhenya turned down most of the offers she got this year, because she wanted to focus on training. Zhenya has more offers than she can take currently. She just bought a house, if she did not have a stable income she would not have done that.

She is not poor, obviously. She’s probably the best earning Russian figure skater after Alina right now. She is hugely popular and could do lots of TV projects etc. But that woman wants to SKATE. And since we’re in a pandemic right now AND she is chronically injured, the options for that are rather limited. It’s good to hear that she has more projects than she can take on but it doesn’t surprise me. What I meant with a stable income was the fact that the show’s something she WANTS to do (skate) but also gets her money safely and regularly. There’s many things she can do to earn money but there’s only one thing currently that she really wants to do. So the situation right now is more difficult for her than for someone like Alina, for example, who seems happy and content doing her media appearances and training for fun. Zhenya wants to skate and she wants to compete. Which is why she’s rushing back to training now to not lose her place on the National team. Which is also why I’m so negative. I’m worried.

I know it is but it still makes me sad. It‘s so irresponsible - of her doctors too.

RusFed is so stupid, honestly. Half of their National team either has the virus or is injured. And yet they keep insisting on that qualification criteria?
What? Who on the Russian national team has covid? I take this very seriously. I received my second coronavirus test today because I was exposed to somebody last Saturday who had colvard in July.

Maybe it's the ego of the Russian Federation to do all these qualifications in various cities. But I would have just had everyone who qualified for National's last year qualify this year if they are still skating and not injured or sick.

But if Zhenya has to risk her health to get into two of these Russian Cup series events just to make Nationals when her back is hurting her and everyone's health seems to be at risk then she probably she just take a pass this season whatever the season is. If her back is feeling good then she's going to want to train and perform because I think the general consensus is her short program at the very least he's going to be exceptional.

I am hopeful that her back will heal, and that she is in good hands medically. It's a tough time for her and we as fans need to be optimistic and supportive. I truly believe that Eteri will not let her compete if she is not ready. And if she competes at any Russian cup that she will do great. :)

Dmitri Kozlovskii and Alexander Galliamov I'm afraid. Fortunately their partners have tested negative so far. Also Vladimir Morozov and Tiffani G have had it too. All of them thankfully seem to have had mild cases and I don't think any of them picked it up in Moscow where Zhenya is training, but still a bit of a worry!

Of course hopefully the worst of COVID will be over by March, but it's hard to know...it's a new virus after all.

that first picture though, with the pinched cheeks, she better not post herself like that ...

What? Aren't they like the top Russian pairs teams who are leading the Resurgence of the Russian Pairs and the world of figure skating?

For Russia to when the team goals in the next Winter Olympics they have to have the ladies and pears Dominate and hope dance and men's are good enough where they can run away with a team event like they did in Sochi.

hopefully TT is being compliant and on the ball about everything I would hate to see any of their skaters get it. I was exposed last Saturday to coronavirus from someone sitting down next to me at a restaurant he said when he had Cove it in July he did not get symptoms. It didn't make me feel better. So I got tested yesterday because I had a sore throat during the week.

As for Zhenya I'm still hoping she could skate in two of these Russian Cup series events later this month and maybe one in November. I don't know if it's possible with her back woes but we can hope.
