Enjoy!!

She is absolutely amazing. Caroline has defintely grown up a bit, but her jumps are still rock solid (except the new 3f+3t). It looks to me the 3flip+3toe was fully rotated. Her sit spin is also getting better and better, her step seq is improving although still a bit sloppy from time to time.

She is definitely ready to compete against top-notched senior ladies. If she nails 3+3, Kimmie will have her work cut out at Nationals. I really don't believe Emily will be able to beat her.

Thanks for the video of Zhang.

I agree she definitely looked more mature here...for which I'm glad. The spins were gorgeous and the jumps good, but I thought she looked a little slow overall and the step sequence was very tentative. A few lessons from Kurt Browning maybe? Though I'm sure it will improve as the season goes on.

What a beautiful performance! She is definitely maturing and improving every year and I'm looking forward to seeing her at SA later this month. :)

It looks to me the 3flip+3toe was fully rotated.

The toeloop was underrotated (pause the video right as she comes down; it's very clear) but an untrained eye won't be able to tell in real time because of Caroline's technique; she TWISTS her upper body into the rotations. When her blade hits the ice it still has rotation left to do (which is what caused her to fall out of the jump...the blade had to turn on the ice to follow the rest of her body and it went into too deep of an edge for her to stand up), but from looking at her head it looks like she has completed the jump.

She is also still flutzing, although perhaps less than last season.

Just in general her jumps lack both height and quick, fluid rotation. Plenty of time to work on that, though.

Her spins and spiral sequence were all level 4. The layback is very impressive because of (aside from the wonderful "Pearl" position) how she incorporates the increased-speed-of-rotation component into the Beillman position, which is harder than doing it in just the standard layback position.

Loads of talent; I expect lots of big battles between her and Mirai Nagasu for World titles after Asada and Yu-Na Kim are done (if those two actually stop in 2010).

I wonder if Caroline looks more mature because of the crazy perspective ratio on the youtube video? Makes her look almost womanly. :p

Ok, I'm kidding, she definitely does look more mature. The music, the choreography, and the costume are all gorgeous (though if she's really daring, she ought to add some red to her dress), plus more makeup than usual (it looks good, goes with the character). The choreography is great, gives her a more energetic, dramatic look. The beginning is especially nice, guess she practiced that a lot! :) I hope she takes a few lessons from a flamenco dancers, though -- hand/arm movements are very important for flamenco dancing, and she's not quite getting it right yet.

When I first found out the SP music selection, I thought how on earth could she make the first section exciting? But she pulled it off! It's got great intensity with just one chord per 5 steps. Wonderful!

Her spirals are fabulous. I don't think I've ever seen the last position before, where she uses the left hand to grab her right leg behind her back, in almost a vertical split! It's another one of her innovative, mind-boggling flexible moves, but this one looks more elegant than the others, IMHO. Did anyone else notice how she got into her first spiral with a hand gesture that Michelle loved to use? I'm glad she's going to put the pearl -> biellman into her competitive program. Nice way to end the program, especially if she can get that spin faster. I like how the change-of-edge in the camel spin sync'ed with the music. Most skaters either make it look jarring, or too smooth so that you can't even appreciate the transition.

The footwork seq' needs work, but I like the inclusion of different small jumps in addition to all the usual turns and hops. Hopefully with more practice she'll have it ready for the real comps. I also liked the footwork into the flip, rather unusual, and more exciting than your typical watered-down-footwork-into-jump.

The 2A looks higher and stronger than in the past, nice exit pose. By eye, I thought the 3/3 was possibly fully rotated, but GoldMedalist is right, on slow-mo it looks under-rotated. But I wonder if it was ratified anyway, because if it was downgraded plus -2 to -3 GOE's, she would get almost no credit for that combo, and her score would be even lower. Note her TES is actually not that much lower than Mao's (though she omitted the second jump of the combo altogether). If it was downgraded, though, think how much higher her TES would be if it was actually landed! Plus the PCS boost, that ought to put it close to 65.

They showed her doing a fine 3/3 in the intro (practice footage). Too bad she couldn't repeat that in the actual program.

Go Caroline! :agree::love::clap::rock::bow::yes:

Wow, she is so impressive. I can't wait to see her do this performance live in Reading at SA!

With Sasha not competing these days, I think Caroline is winning in terms of posture and positions - that spiral sequence was stunning and the real highlight of the program for me. She still has to work on her jumps and overall speed, but it's definitely appreciated to see her going for a 3-3 for the first time! She got close, and at least didn't completely fall. And re. flutzing, it's not like the judges are picky enough about that anyway.

.

It's slightly 'underrotated', but I believe it's less than a quarter even after watching the slo-mo.

I think Mirai has hit a speed bump. The growth spurt is defintely giving her lots of trouble. I watched her lp, and she probably only landed 2 or 3 clean triples. She tends to underrotate lots of jumps these days. Mirai's jumps were supposed to be better than Caroline's. Her jumps have better height and spring, that's why I'm kind of puzzled why she tends to underrotate these jumps. Her performance in the last two competitions was really sub-par.

It's going to be a challenging year for Mirai. Puberty monster...

This is like michelle's romanza. Great. She looks SO much more mature than last year and really feels and uses the music, not just lets it play on in the backround, like she did last year. If she had stood up on that triple toe she would have a top three at worlds worthy program. So happy for her. I love that dress.

She actually landed a good 3+3 in a club competition.

I think I watched most if not all. Caroline Zhang and Mao Asada are definitely two stand-outs. Gorgeous programs and strong performances at this early stage. Johnny Weir also looks good.

Most other skaters are just so so... It's still early. Don't like Miki's program.

Mirai under-rotated lots of jumps last year too, at regionals and also in the LP at national's. JW was the only comp where she had no downgrade in either program.

She still has more height and spring than Caroline. But it sometimes feels like she relaxes her body a bit too much and lets it loosen up before the jump lands, so she under-rotates. When it does finish rotation, it looks great -- nice flow and easy-looking. Caroline, on the other hand, is like a tightened spring all the way until the rotations finish (including the dodgy 3/3 here), which made her land a little too low, and therefore hard to pull out. It sometimes creates a slightly jarring look on exit, because she has to check hard to kill the rotations, but it does help to finish the rotations.

Actually I thought her SP last year was wonderfully choreographed and interpreted, including the footwork sequence. The LP was less so.

were you there? becasue I can't find anymore videos on YouTube.

Icenetwork carried it.

I subscribe to icenetwork and if there is some way to see this competition there, I haven't figured it out.

I watched from fsvids.net as someone here suggested. I think you will see these later on icenetwork but not now.

Nice program! I like the music, the costume and the choreography! About interpretation, for the beginning of the season and her early age, was good! But she has to show more temperament IMO!!! Maybe watching some Sasha Cohen vids will help her. ;) About facial expression, it is difficult to tell, because of the small size of the video, but it is important in that kind of music as well as the movements (which were good IMO).
If she works on more, that program could become really interesting. Looking for it in the GP.

I don't believe you looked carefully enough, then. Her head is almost fully rotated but her blade is only just slightly past the half-way mark of the third rotation...more than a 1/4 turned cheated.

It's going to be a challenging year for Mirai. Puberty monster...

Better to hit this year than next year -- her first year as a Senior. Caroline might get her spurt next year. Who knows with such young girls. I predict both of them will pull through, though, and be the two top female skaters in the World in 2011 (if Mao and Yu-Na do not stick around).

A beautiful dress and really great choreography, but she didn't seem to feel the music at all (I sound like Aunt Peggy...eek!!)

Gypsy music is passionate and needs passionate skating to compliment it. She's wonderful, very young, and still a work in progress, so maybe she's just not quite ready for "passion" yet...
