Ladies prediction game - standings so far after 53 voters

1. Valieva 24 wins (50 podiums)
2. Shcherbakova 16 wins (49 podiums)
3. Trusova 9 wins (41 podiums)
4. Tuktamysheva 4 wins (13 podiums)

I still think that Usacheva might be underrated... :scratch2:

You have to take it the way that apart from Russia, probably Japan, possibly USA and Korea, Daria (and even Maiia, for instance) would be a clear gold medal contender in any other country. It's just that the field is on such high level in Russia.

Yeah for sure. It's just a hard lesson to learn. The ones who should have made the call aren't the ones who had a difficult skate and injured themselves even more, particularly needlessly, not to mention the impact on her emotionally. :( I just hope Sasha recovers quickly and completely and that they have learned that her safety and health is paramount.

Anyway, on to the next one. I hope for good skates, from Sasha and the rest! <3
I just don't know what to expect from the Russian ladies. There will be some ups and downs probably for everyone. Liza is a wild card because we just don't know what kind of form she's an after taking ill. The same goes for Anya.

Sasha was injured at Rostelecom, Plushenko said so in an interview. I wonder why she still went for a million quads then but oh well. At least now they‘re changing the strategy, though I‘m worried that she won‘t be able to win unless the others make mistakes. Without a 3A in the SP, she‘ll go into the FS with at least a 10 points deficit to Kamila, who, I‘m sure will break Kostornaya’s Nationals SP record if the judges are given any chance at doing so. She also has 2 quads in the FS and gets better GOE on spins and steps. Same for Anna. With all that, I don‘t think Sasha can win against either of them if both are clean. Also, that 3Lz+3Lo is still there and it scares me - it‘s been so inconsistent this season. The 4Lz with rippon looks great, though, and that comes from someone who generally dislikes this whole rippon-quad mania going on right now. I hope I‘m wrong about counting Sasha out for the Gold because I‘m really rooting for her.

Anna‘s somewhat of a dark horse, though I find it funny how many are counting her out again. I‘m not a fan of hers but come on, you all must have noticed that whenever people do this, she tends to prove them wrong big time. So, given that it‘s the same tune as the last two seasons... expect her as your National Champion.

More seriously now: Seeing the videos from her training, it looks like she‘ll be going for two quads. (4F+3T and 4F, I guess?) Makes me think that the 1TV interview was filmed early after her coming back to the ice and that she‘s doing much better now. Maybe it‘s part of their strategy, too - create low expectations for Anna and focus the hype on Sasha vs. Kamila only for her to go out and stun everyone. It‘s been known to happen in the past.

Kamila is Kamila, there‘s not much to say about her. If she‘s remotely clean with less than 2 falls, she wins. If not, then the others have a chance.

Liza is a big question mark because she’s had the least time to recover. If she lands three 3As, she‘ll be in the mix. I‘m thinking her goal will be to either beat Sasha again or Anna, to make a case for the Worlds team.

I dreamt tonight that Daria would win Silver (after Sasha and in front of Anna lol), so hopefully it‘s a sign that she‘ll do well. She‘s very consistent this season and while she‘s not doing any ultra-c elements, she tends to get high GOEs on everything. She doesn‘t stand out as much among her rivals (I partly blame the bad programs) but she could play spoiler if one of the others falter. Which, given the risky elements Sasha, Kamila, Anna and Liza will try, isn’t all that unlikely. I definitely predict a podium spot for her, though I think Bronze is the most likely.

Maiia‘s a wildcard. I saw a video of her doing a pretty good 4T but she‘s so inconsistent that you just never know. I guess she does have a shot at the podium but it‘s a veeery long shot. A lot would have to happen and because it involves most of her rivals failing, I‘m not hoping for it at all. Sorry.

I think no one else is in contention, realistically. Though I am hoping for good skates for Nugumanova, Talalaikina and Konstantinova.

I do have to say that my excitement for this competition has gone down vastly by the withdrawal of my favorite two skaters, although I‘ll still be watching and having my fingers crossed for everyone. I know my third favorite, Sasha, doesn‘t have much chance at victory without 3A and more quads but I‘m hoping for her to do well and get a spot on the podium. Come on, girl!!

Lastly, I wish a happy Christmas to everyone celebrating it and hope to see good skating as a present to all of us. :)
For either Daria to get silver or Maiia to podium, 2 of Sasha/Anna/Kamila would have to have a pretty big meltdown. Liza would probably have to have major mistakes as well and Daria would have to be clean which doesn't happen too often.

Daria doesn't have the competitive tech (not only no quad or 3A, but no -3Lo combo either) and even if Maiia lands the quad, she doesn't have the GOE or PCS and her jumps are also quite small.

Yeah, really they're all probably not in the best form. Liza had Covid and there seems to be some concerns as to her readiness/preparedness/health in general. And Liza must know that she will need to fight for a spot on the team. While this isn't a defining competition it will be taken into account for the World team, particularly with the reigning GPF and Euros champion missing it. Anna was sick and seems to be jumping well again but there are concerns as to her stamina. Plus, being the 2 time defending Russian champion isn't exactly easy. Sasha has been injured and has a tendency to beat herself. If she makes mistakes, she needs to not let that mess with her mindset. She also needs to overcome the perception that she meltsdown in high pressure environments. And Kamila, Daria, and Maiia are juniors competing in a high pressure environment. They will be expected to perform, especially Kamila. While they can't win sports to worlds this year, due to their age, this is still one step along a long journey towards the goal of the Olympics. They also can't really afford meltdowns. They all need to be clean. Even if they're not at peak shape/difficulty, they need to at least do the best they can.

It wouldn't even take a giant meltdown. A clean Daria can score around 220 (maybe 230). Now, while Sasha, Anna, and Kamila should be well ahead, if clean, with all 3 only doing 2 quads, that's not untouchable, especially if they were to fall. Liza's peak is only 234 and she tends to be around 210-220 ish. Daria can beat that. Quite frankly, Liza isn't exactly the pillar of consistency either and Daria's programs are better constructed. Plus Daria has better spins, skating skills, and her PCS are rising

Open way we will be pleasantly surprised by abs standing skating by the top girls. From the pictures they sure look happy.

Daria is indeed very nice to watch. Here tech content is just not there - no ultra-c and she is a flutzess. I see a 3a comming soon though. On the other side she is the most pre-puberty from all of them

I would take the information about the injury with a grain of salt. After the skate, when Sasha was asked what happened, she said she had no idea. She didn’t mention any injury. And I doubt she would go for four quads if injured. To me it sounds as if Plushchenko is doing damage control.

It was as answer for an answer. Trusova doesn't like to discuss her conditions. She herself never mentioned any trauma, Pluschenko did.

There was an article about various dress colors and someone mentioned that female skater's costume of rose and violet more attactive from the Board point of view.

You are of course completely free to believe what you want. But may we ask how you explain the sudden collapse after 2 competitions that are really very good (and won) by current standards, and why of all things the most stable quad to date is being dropped?
All of this undoubtedly fits an injury.

It seems like a psychological issue to me. Last season was the same - she started so strong, was winning all of her events and then, as the season progressed and the competition intensified, she began to have problems. Honestly, I hope Rostelecom was a fluke and didn’t affect her. Everyone has a bad skate occasionally, doesn’t mean anything. Sasha remains the bravest and the strongest girl on the planet!

Rostelecom was not a psychological problem. No way. You could already see in training that something was wrong.
And remove 3A, 4T and 4S is supposed to eliminate "mental problems" for Sasha?
Absurd! But as I said. Everyone can think what he wants.

Well the Board has no taste and I don't like them.

Seriously, there's so few green dresses in skating! Everybody and their sister has pink or purple or blue.

Bah humbug!
