Men SP

I dont agree with Chan and Lysacek being up there. Lutai and Preaubert and Carriere were all better and cleaner.

How are Chan and Lysacek up there. Chan, Lysacek, Lutai, Preaubert, and Carriere are basically tied. TIED. For them the Long Program is a free for all. The short gave none of them a measurable advantage.

Go Andrei!!!
Love him, previous to SA he said he was going for the quad and he won't change his mind, and he did it.
Great job.

Takahashi was wonderful, really really wonderful.
Does he has a quad?

Takahashi last year always attempted 1 quad in the long. In the off season he said he wanted to be doing 2 quads in the long this year, but given that he didnt try 1 in the short I am not sure if he is at the point of doing 2 quads in the long yet.

Yes, he tried a quad but fell or stepped out last year at worlds. Not sure if he has even landed a clean one in competition yet. I was heartbroken when he didn't win worlds last year, I thought Phantom was a masterpeice. I like what i have seen on the swan program, but can't say much for his LP, romeo and juliet. to generic.

What I mean is Chan and Lysacek should not have been placed over Lutai, Preaubert, or Carriere at all. Not in my opinion anyway.

If Takahashi had done his short program from tonight at Worlds he would be the World Champion right now, unless Joubert went into attack mode more in the long. It was his short program that cost him the World title.

Evan's SP demons continue to be his downfall. He'll need a repeat of 2007 Nationals and Diasuke Takahashi will have to have a meltdown in order for Lysacek to have a hope of beating him now. If anyone can come back in the LP, it is Evan and he's made a career on doing just that. He and Frank must be thinking, wow, we dug our own grave again. He's missed out on so many higher placements and medals due to his inability to skate clean SPs.

Second flight was obviously much better. I still am not fond of Preaubert... he's gawky and awkward, but at least he isn't boring. I like Chan. Takahashi was clearly the class of the field, but were his TCS scores a bit high ... he had no quad? And were Evan's also a bit high ... afterall he missed his combination and had a fall?
But whatever ... I am really excited by Stephen Carriere ... he has solid technique, good musicality ... and those spins! Wow!!

Unless Daisuke completely bombs the FS, Evan can win. Because it's not just about Evan winning the FS but he would have to win for more than 15 points, and Daisuke after today may not even go for a quad tomorrow and still have a very high score, which he probably will because he was very confident in the SP.
I think Evan should be more concerned about doing a clean program tomorrow because considering how close the scores are, a little mistake in the free can really cost him.

Hoping to see in the podium Daisuke, Andrei and Evan, in any order is just fine by me,

Not really. Only maybe a bronze medal at the 2006 Olympics perhaps, nothing else. So 1 placement at 1 event only, that is not "many".
yes, but that has been due to his ablity to come back in the long. for some reason evan is and never will be a Short program skater. With a quad he probably woul be in first. it's not that he can't do it. I bet anybody that he does a beauty in the LP on Sunday. Somthing about the short freaks him out.

Oh so they are no longer draws, it's reverse order again, so Daisuke goes last for the FS.

There arent many mens skaters who regularly skate clean short programs. Takahashi, Joubert, and Oda do sometimes. Buttle does very rarely, Sandhu does never, Lambiel does very rarely, Verner does only occasionaly, Weir does occasionaly.

You are right on Evan in short programs in general, but as for the quad itself he hasnt done enough quads to say he is a consistent quadster in competition yet, he has shown he can do it, but not enough to say it is money in the bank. He has only landed 2 cleanly so far. He has only tried about 5 (2 in the short, 3 in the long). Well you say you watch him practice so you would have an idea which I dont if he is consistent on it in practice or not, but as for competition it is still early to say. The more he attempts the better idea we will have.

Also 2006 US National gold (Evan was 1st in the FS; Johnny was 3rd in the FS)

An Olympic medal and another National Championship seem like a big deal to me.

Personally i think Evan might want to take the quad out of the long. There is a slight chance he might just fall of the podium.

when I saw him in practice the quad looked pretty easy. Not like he was fighting for it or anything. he fell on one, but landed two, one solo, one with a double loop at the end. I assume he is trying for a 3 loop. I hope he can land it on Sunday, even if he can't win, getting a clean quad combo would be great for his confidence.

i doubt it. he is not that type.

His quad was severely underrotated tonight, thats why he fell on it.

I doubt he does that. Always nice to collect as many points as possible in case of a Takahashi meltdown, which I doubt but not impossible (remember Skate Canada last year anyone). Plus like Tinymavy15 said that is not his personality.
