Men SP

I think he knows, like most elite skaters, he will get held up in the PCS marks so it won't be weird if he goes for the quad on the FS. He'll try it, if it does not work, he'll focus on the rest.

Exactly. He knows the judges will give him higher PCS then Chan, Carriere, Preaubert, Lutai no matter what.

Very True. They would have to beat him about 8-12 in the technical to make up for the PCs. All I'm sayingin is a underrottated quad fall, and a bobble some where else is a lost of about 8 points.

Oh weee just noticed that Andrei landed the only quad of the SP!!
Ok, done cheering for him

If his quad was downgraded to a triple he would lose 13 points. -3 for the fall but 1 point for the automatic deduction for a fall, plus another 4 for the triple toe forced to omit, plus 5 if the quad were downgraded to a triple.

Has anyone ever landed a quad/3 loop combination before?

So...Evan's chasing history and the record books along w/the points that would give him.

I'm pretty sure Plushenko landed quad-triple toe-triple loop several times in competition and landed quad-triple loop-triple loop in practice. But, I'm not sure about quad-triple loop.

That is what I think too. I think Plushy had done quad toe-triple toe-triple loop in competition, but never quad toe-triple loop.

Personally I think Evan should focus on landing the quad more often before he starts tackling harder combinations.

Plush has landed a 4t-2l in competition at the GPF in Colorado for the FS, but he has not landed a 4t-3l one in competition.

I have notice the spins have improved overall. The footwork seems to be wearing out the skaters. Either the footwork should be worth more or have less requirements for levels.

What I mean is Chan and Lysacek should not have been placed over Lutai, Preaubert, or Carriere at all. Not in my opinion anyway.

For what it's worth, I saw this from a very good seat in the arena, and the judging seemed quite fair. Evan skates very "big" and fast, with a lot of flair. And Chan's quality was great and his triple axel was amazing. I think they deserved their placements, even with the mistakes.

I never saw Lutai before tonight and I was quite impressed. He has great quality.

I think Reynolds landed a quad salchow.

Daisuke Takahashi rocked the house!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Unbelievable!!!!!!!!! The only standing ovation of the night and well deserved.

I disagree that the early guys tanked. They were quite enjoyable in person, mistakes and all. Loved Berntsson's choreography.

Wow, it's going to be a real dog fight for silver & bronze (assuming Takahashi doesn't _completely_ melt down). 0.8 separating 2nd and 6th! The LP is going to be really exciting! I'm rooting for Patrick Chan and Alban Preaubert. The former for his amazing basic skating skills (deep edges, nice knee bend, polished transitions, finished moves, good musicality), the latter for his great sense of humor and innovative choreography.

Oh, and I love Takahashi, of course. Looking forward to his LP.

I kept thinking Reynolds had landed a quad, I just saw the slowmo and it was a quad! But I think it was two footed.

Yes Reynolds did. Amazing even though it was two footed. I love Daisuke hip hop swan lake. Two bad he didn't borrow ghetto costume from Blades of Glory:p

I think Nancy finally got the hang of base value versus GOE by the end of the men's SP, good for her! Maybe someone pulled her aside before the men's segment and explained to her the difference. :p

She also turned out to have a sense of humor -- she had me laughing when she said "I wonder if he can feel the hand" in regard to Preaubert's costume. Plus she's definitely shed the Ms. Nice persona. She had something to criticize in almost everyone's program, including Takahashi's. Wow. Even Uncle Dick doesn't seem especially critical compared to her. Whew!

I´m really glad that Evan had the guts to try to jump the quad-combo now early in the season. This time it did not succeed (he did it at the warm-up though), but practicing and trying to do it at competitions is the only way for him to get it more consistent. WOW, go Evan, go Daisuke & others!!!

Thanks so much for the reports, Ximena. What a great read this thread is this morning!

Edited to add: But I did have one question: what color was Lysacek's costume?
