Well, Math, the problem you mentioned is something that can be corrected. They can say, over the anouncement 5 jumps downgraded. (for example).. If the issue isn't the audience understanding.

Well, I don't think they should do it while the program's happening that would detract for the program, but they can announce it before the scores come out....

Still, I think that COP is sort of easy to understand... I have a pretty good understanding of what is a good score and what isn't a good score. None of the ladies seemed to get a good score this time around.

I like the fact that it's a little less subjective than 6.0...The only thing I question is if artistry is rewarded enough.

Maybe a pleasant "ding" for a completed jump and silence for an under-rotated jump would be a more positive experience for everyone.

Nice as the idea is, though, with the way under-rotation is defined right now, it's impossible even for the highly trained technical controllers to determine in real time whether a jump is fully rotated. This is why they take so long before announcing the scores for the skaters who tend to have at least one jump downgraded (that ominous silence is usually a bad sign under this new COP regime).

That's why I think they should announce it before the scores turn up. Perhaps they could have a ding, if the caller feels the jump needs to be reviewed?

I think the should announce wong edges and down grades and levels right before the score. They can somthing like " Skater A complete three triples, two downgraded triples, and two doubles. lv4 combination spin lv2 spiral seqence and a lv 3 footwork. Technical score is....."

I sure the average audience would understand what is going on with out bells and whistles. I've noticed audience have become use to the points. They clap politely when they hear a low score and louder when they hear a high on. I remember in the past audiences wouldn't clap until after they heard the placement.

Yes, but well, the issue is it can be confusing to fans why a skater got some bad scores....Also the skater too, so it doesn't hurt to make it obvious why a skater was dinged.

So it wouldn't hurt for the scores to make it obvious immediately. For example they could just perhaps flash a 5 D or something.

Yeah it would be embarassing. But it would also be exciting for everyone to hear that your quad was ratified or that you got all level 4 and 3. I think it goes both ways.

I'm sorry. Miki Ando is still simply one of the least interesting skaters around. Even Mao's big sister was more "interesting".

Zhang is cute, charming, blah, blah, blah, but most certainly not as infinitely precocious as Tara was at 14. I'll tell you this, Tara at 13 was so much better than any 14'er you see these days it's laughable. The minimum age limit is an atrocity and should be, to paraphrase Dickens, be "boiled in its own pudding and buried with a stake of holly in its heart". Zhang would be better and stronger than she is if that age limit weren't there.

Kimmie truly looks mature now, and I hope that she will be more accepting of being referred to as Kimberly Claire Meissner. She does need to work on avoiding those "pops", though. Give me Kimberly Claire!

The downgrade of junps make me so surprised in this competition. If the jump rule will continue. I think many girls have to correct their jump technical. In addtion, some veteran,for example Fumie whose basic skills are solid ,will gain high scores by this opportunity.

I noticed the Asian/Japanese networks not only display the total scores when skaters receive their marks, they also give a breakdown on the side of the screen explaining how many points were given for jumps, how many were given for spins and other elements, etc. I'm not sure if they also display how many deductions were given for underrotating/falling/popping jumps, but I thought it was a really good idea.

I think this would be a much better way of explaining why certain elements received certain scores than buzzing or ringing bells every time a skater attempted a jump...not to mention less distracting for the skater and the audience.

This type of breakdown could also be displayed on the big screen for the live audience, and I don't understand why the North American networks aren't doing something similar. It certainly helped me understand COP a bit better, and while people might still disagree with the final results, at least they'd understand better why the judges scored the way they did.

i am in shock that miki beat caroline with no triple triple in either program and sloppy skating. true caroline was not perfect, she looked REALLY nervous, but her triple triple was complete

Very interesting designed dress. I like it. It definitely looks like a designer dress and not a catalogue dress. I think she should continue to grow her hair long because you can do more things with it, especially making it look polished. The make up looks like the person who did it knew what they were doing. I also like the new look.

There are several jumps I wouldn't have downgraded (Miki's Lutz, Emily's Flip, Caroline's Flips and Lutz, Mira's Flip) and then others that I think were passed over (Evan's Quad in the LP, Kimmie's 2Toe in her 3-jump combo, Caroline's 2Toe in her 3-jump combo and her 3Toe in the SP).

Well I don't understand PCS scores either. Kimmie Meissner might be a good jumper and a great competitor but.......she is no artist. She has the most unexpressive arm movements not to mention not a bit graceful. I've heard people comment on how Emily Hughes charges around on the rink like a bull and to me Kimmie does the same thing. She flings her body around and just charges around the rink. As much as I want to like her skating, I just can't do it. At least with Emily Hughes, I can enjoy Emily's enjoyment of skating because she expresses it so clearly each time she skates.

I feel the same way about Miki Ando except she is worse than Kimmie.

Give me the style and grace of Caroline Zhang and Mira Nagasu any day.

One other thing, what about 'hanging on' jumps where the jump is completed but the body is all off balance and often drooped over to keep the free leg safe. Then there's the slip up landing where a skater lands in an unintentional shoot-the-duck. These things happen. Maybe some judges use the GoEs for these misshaps or maybe not.

Passing laws are always a good thing but enforcing the law is something else.

Emily Hughes = After all those sleepy programs this evening, finally some energy!! Great determination and charisma. Unfortunately not the best program, but it's early season. She is a happy skater.
I don't like the costume!
