Alena Kostornaia

It seems that Audrey Shin (2020 Skate America bronze medalist) is a fan of our Aliona! (Though not a big enough fan to know how to pronounce her name correctly? )

See her recent interview, around 24:30, when she's talking about the Russian ladies:

Sounds like she loves Aliona! And the person interviewing her agrees!

That first clip was from before Rostelecom and I presume the rest are as well... I wonder what they look like now? I want to be hopeful the prospect of being left off the world’s team will motivate her as did the prospect of losing after test skates in 2019, but the circumstances are not in her favor are they 😔

Nope.

But alyona would have won worlds last season most likely and I'm sure the federation realizes she lost her opportunity because of a worldwide pandemic. I still think she will get the 3rd spot if there is a worlds. This is no time for the fed to play games. If Aliona looks good in the cup final in February or whenever it is now I think she gets that 3rd spot. It is not even a must that she has to have her 3A back. But will be a must try to make the Olympic team next year because KV will be senior but not for worlds this season. But if she can get the 3A back by the Russian cup final that will help. Should make the decision easier for the fed.

Who if not the current world record holder? Kamila is still not eligible anyway.. ;)
On the other hand, Liza has been an exceptional contender this season and she has stated her plans to include quads and the 3A at the Russian Cup final. She beat Aliona at Rostelecom. I don’t know if Aliona is safe just because of last season. Beating Liza will be a challenge for her, especially if she isn’t in high enough condition to maximize her components, which is what gets her all those points.

Tuktamysheva who beat her at Rostelecom. Aliona withdrew from Nats, too, and we have no idea how her jumps are doing. Before she became sick, she was URing her triples, never mind thinking about a 3A. I guess we‘ll get to see her state at that team competition. But by no means is she safe.

It‘s by no means safe worlds will happen either, but oh well.

I want Aliona to find her groove again and get back on track (she‘s had SOO much bad luck this season) because she deserves to be on that Worlds team. But she will have to prove her quality skating‘s still there.

Aliona will compete at the team event Feb 5-7

Thanks for the information!
Btw the link won't open for me :scratch2: . A team event in Russia? Does anyone know what it says about the competition? I haven't been watching closely for their domestic events these days.

You might find the Golden Skate page on the team event useful, especially the first page which contains information from Channel One Russia. The TASS article did mention that the two teams would be chosen by drawing lot. I hope this helps.

New interview with Aliona.

She talked about the lack of communication with her coach (at Sambo). There was a problem with the SP song, and she was told that the song she suggested was not good, but a few days later at the rink, she was upset that another kid was skating to that song, which the coach had given to them, so Aliona decided to move to a better environment before the season.

Concerning the lack of 3A at Rostelecom Cup she said:
"I'm getting back to my original level after refraining from practice due to Covid. I'm not going to make excuses, I'm practicing hard now. I'm waiting for the day when I'll be back to my powerful 3A."

But that's interesting as she seems to mention other (more) reasons for leaving TT than just kids on the ice. Could that be about the "You should see me in the crown" song she skates her SP to, after all? Interesting. It was to be suspected there were more reasons behid such a dramatic move but anyway...

It is not about "You should see me in a crown". If it were about that song, a Sambo skater would skate to it this season, since Aliona said they gave her chosen SP music to someonelse.

Yeah, just not sure if no one skates to it cause I don't really follow all these younger kids. So, you say, none of them does? Maybe they did not want to make a program to the music they knew somebody else from her former school would skate to. At least, knowing Alena , it was probably not about the Bolero....

I remember Aliona saying last year that she wanted to do an Edith Piaf program, and her coaches told her no because they didn't think she was mature enough to do it justice...cue then 12 year old Adelia Petrosyan doing a free program to Sous le ciel de Paris, La vie en rose, and Milord.
I think you’ve solved the puzzle, thank you.
