Well, if you remember, her first outing with that new program (RusNats) didn‘t exactly go all too well... which is why it’s so risky to change programs this late in the season- you don‘t have many chances to get familiar with them under pressure.
True. Still it did well what it was supposed to do and worked when it mattered - got her to the Worlds team and worked there well enough for her to win bronze. So it was a good move even if risky....

I admit I have no idea who the girl leading after the sp is. All I know is she's a plushenko girl. I was expecting a different leader, akatieva, as she is much loved; when that didn't happen i expected adelia to lead, but that didn't happen either! Interesting, I like the unexpected in figure skating.

How come there is no thread for Russian Junior Nationals?

Sofia Muravieva, you should definitely watch her! She has lovely artistry

What a beautiful melody! Perfect for skating:

I thing the thing which shocked me in interviews after SP is Latushkina mostly trains herself.
She's doing really well considering that fact! I remember she had a great free skate at one Russian Cup stage.

When I last checked Allskaters.info I saw she is from Daria Sadkova's former group in Mari El. Did something happen to prevent Latushkina getting proper coaching time?

Oh, so this is her then, as the description confirms:

Brought to you by the same Mari-El channel that has brought us this incredibly soothing video:

I'm not that upset Alyona withdrew to be honest. I would much rather she work more on making her brand new programs better and getting her jumps more consistently rotated again. There is still Russian Cup Final after all.
I am also relieved she's not going to the team event. Aliona is all about skating beautifully and this team competition has nothing to do with that. If she was ready I would love to see her skate in any competition but I don't see how this jumping contest is going to benefit her career in any way.

There wasn't much love today. They obviously had different judges today than what we saw in the cup series for her. Or they changed their ways as judges since Sofia's last competition.;)

But WHY would they even decide to change the FS in the middle of the season, after she struggled with jumps, an injury, new boots and COVID? She had problems remembering the last choreo properly under competition pressure, why add even more distractions? The choreography to the program was boring, sure, but it wasn‘t atrocious and for a season like this, a better costume + some filler elements could have saved it pretty easily. Not spectacular, perhaps, but not terrible either.

She needs all the time she can get to make a convincing case at the Cup Final for the Worlds team because right now, it‘s not looking good. Debuting a completely new program at a qualifying competition is really risky and I just don‘t see any benefits to it.

On here I believe it was mentioned that the Fed publicly made a negative comment about Kostornaia's FS; if they have made a negative comment in public I would assume that the private comments were worse. If the Fed didn't like the FS then perhaps her coaching team was told that without a triple axel and that program as her FS, she wouldn't be on Worlds team, its probably easier to fix the FS than the triple axel. She's got to debut it somewhere, and they may have already accepted that she might struggle to get on the World team if she doesn't have the triple axel and its better to start putting some competition miles on the program now. Or perhaps they said we are going to focus on the Olympics, if she makes it to Worlds this year then it's just an added bonus, because right now she's 4th on the depth chart for the age-eligible skaters for the Olympics next year, which means she's watching it at home.

Muravyova also appears to have a planned 4T.

Oooooh, "little Usacheva" has a 4T?

Coming into this event, Samodelkina is my favorite... but now I have my other eye on Muravyova. (actually how is her last name spelled? I have seen like 5 different spellings on the competition thread). I just love her presentation. But girl please dump that heavy dreary music!

Yes. Her mom. However, the results are not spectacular.

She was better with Rozanov.

I have my doubts that a coach/parent relationship can be successful

Plus, who wants to quit working with Rozanov?

Apparently at least a few people, if I'm remembering correctly Trusova started with him at Plushenko and then picked a different coach, and also both Zhilina sisters were with him then went back to their mom.

Haha I find myself varying between so many different english translations of her name. I used to use Muravyeva until I realized there's that character "ë" which in Alyona's name reads like "o" so then I used Muravyova. But people on twitter say Muravieva, so I also use that one to make it clear who I'm talking about. I guess it will really depend on when she uses her official English name for competitions. (My favorites here are also Muravyova and Samodelkina!)

To be honest I don't actually see much a similarity between Usacheva and Muravyova, even though they are both some of my overall favorites. Usacheva is more classically elegant, Muravyova seems to skate with a bit more drama. Someone mentioned Radionova, which I do see, but I think Sofia has better skating skills and overall quality. Some movements are a bit frantic, but that's mostly in arm movement (and that's mostly due to choreography, her other programs show that she is not a frantic skater at all), her feet are very neat and the steps are clean and fast.

There would be no sense in Aliona changing her program now unless she was trying to make the World team. If they thought she didn't have a chance they wouldn't have bothered. She could have pulled out or just competed the old program. The fact that the fed wanted her to have a better program proves to me they really want her on the team.
