I also have the feeling that Kolyada didn't try that much and that he had a bad attitude.

I'm a little late to the party, having been delayed in watching the LP today and getting up to date on this thread, but I wanted to add a few reflections on Junior Nationals.

i. I realized that Sofia Samodelkina must have been even more sad about her result, given that she probably wouldn't have been satisfied with anything less than first place. Let's not forget that she had the highest score of anyone in all five Cup of Russia events this year, and also that she beat Akatieva in the Cup of Russia final a year ago. It just wasn't her time to shine, I guess. Too many mistakes.

ii. Maybe this is naive, but I haven't seen it mentioned in the thread, so I'm going to go for it: I had some faith in the impartiality of judging restored (some faith) when Muravieva skated so well in the SP, and Barton was really impressed -- and then lo and behold her scores were really quite good. I'd be curious if others agree or disagree.

iii. I'm very happy about Adeliya, who I will not hide is one of my favorites. Can we turn her post-LP celebration into a meme? Instead of "dropping the mic" when you've just done something amazing, can we now say "slamming the ice"? I do agree that the axis on her jumps was troubling. Every time, I said to myself "she's going to fall" -- but then she didn't. I think she might have some kind of sixth sense for landing on her feet, like a stuntman, or a cat. I submit to the jury Exhibit A, this amazing save on a 3F from her first Cup of Russia appearance:

How did she not fall?

Lot of the girls were feeling the pressure because this is the only major junior competition in the entire season for them with no world championships and note Grand Prix final.

Because Adelia is so small she can regain her balance quickly to avoid falling. If she grows a few inches as we expect in the next couple years that's going to be harder to control.

Sofi Samo has a big upside. Some a her results are spectacular. But finishing 4th 2 years in a row at junior Russian nationals has to hurt. SS seems happy at CSKA but at some point EG may make a move on her because she likes skaters in threesomes like 3A then KV Dasha and Maia then Sofia Adelia and....
perhaps SS.

We know skaters don't blame themselves with their failures just like the rest of society we always blame somebody else. in figure skating it's always the coaches that get the blame.

Plushie may also make a move on Sofia Samo as well. We know he is a great recruiter.
A spectacular recruiter!

They are indeed much better if we compare them in the same timeframe. This is their junior nationals before their international debuts. I'm not 100% sure on these numbers because they're from memory, but junior nationals before international's JGP went something like this:

Sasha: 4th place, no quads or 3A, clean skate
Alena: 16th place, no quads or 3A, many mistakes
Anna: 13th place, no quads or 3A, many mistakes (also 1 year later as she missed her first junior season)

So yeah, landing any quad/3A and getting a medal at junior nationals before even skating internationally is something that has never been accomplished by Sasha/Alena/Anna.

It is important to note that the "main juniors" Kamila, Daria, Ksenia, and Maiia did not skate here as the other top juniors did previously, so the girls might not have medalled, but they did land quads and 3As, and were much more consistent with their triples. The statement that they do not measure up to Sasha/Alena/Anna is a complete lie.
Yeah, that's basically what I was saying. People comparing them to Anna, Sasha, and Aliona aren't being fair. For goodness skates, Aliona when she won silver at the 2019 Russian Juniors was 15 years old. These girls are only 12/13.

Does anyone have a list of who is on who’s team? I watched a live on Instagram of the draw, but I was only able to catch the ladies (and the video was kind of blurry so it was hard to tell who was sitting in which area).

That was like one person though? And we all think that person is nuts.

Plus anyone who pointed that issue out was firmly informed Anna would have won anyway.

And Sasha who finally got some clean skates in didn't even get named to the World's Team for her efforts. She may as well have gone for all the quads and got some practice in. Maybe she would have landed them all and won, on the other hand I guess it's a helpful reminder to those who pick on Sasha for doing all those quads that the reason she does it is not just because she loves them (though she clearly does) but because she needs to.

There's always a lot of 🙄 whenever Sasha's planned program comes out, it's annoying. I'm just hoping that Nats will put to rest once and for all the idea that Sasha is foolhardy for wanting to do all the quads and she could be a winner if she just skated smart.
It was more than one.

And Anna would have won, her tech content was higher. Plus even internationally Anna gets probably the 2nd or 3rd highest PCS in the world. (After Aliona and maybe Rika). However, I disagree the gap should have been as big as it was.

And other than first place in each discipline, no one was named for the World's Team. And the women have to many unknowns anyway. Can Aliona come back to form? How consistent are Liza's 3A's?

Team Zagitova wins in ladies and men I think
Team Medvedeva wins pairs and ice dance

Or maybe mens is close

Ohh, gotcha. I was super confused watching the live because the video was just so blurry (my stupid WiFi) I couldn’t tell if they were choosing or drawing out of a hat or something:ROFLMAO: Thanks for the list!

I enjoyed Candyman I thought it was fun.

People seem to forget just how this came about, for a good two seasons T/M were merciless mocked for being the most boring skaters ever. (Personally I never thought that) But in every competition they appeared at that's all you heard how deathly dull they were and woe! Russian pairs fans were doomed forevermore to watch this drab lifeless pair.

You don't think T/M's team read that garbage and thought they had to do something about it? Was Candyman a piece of art, no, but people only got crueller to the point where there were posts wishing that they'd fail spectacularly so the wonderous sport of pairs figure skating wouldn't be forever besmirched by the disgusting spectacle that was Candyman.

Well they all got their wish, while Zhenya Tarasova's heart broke into a million pieces people on this forum were positive crowing and gloating and laughing about how fabulous it was that those two embarrassments were kept off the podium.

And ever since any time T/M try something different they're ridiculed while in the very same breath they're called the most boring team in history.

I'll never forget how horrible people were to them.
I think that's the issue though. You perceive things as a personal attack on YOU. It isn't. And then you take this perceived slight against your favourite skaters personally and then are incapable of forgetting it. And then you judge everything on that scale. (Which is like judging across competitions - too many changing variables to make it a fair comparison.) I think that magnifies criticisms for you. That's common - to pay more attention to negative things against things you care about and be unable to see clearly the positive things.
