I always laughed when Steffi Graf would win Most Sportsmanlike accolades. Umm, she was a TERRIBLE sport when she lost, and sometimes even when she didn't. But when she's winning practically everything, it's easy to be gracious and magnanimous. "My opponent played exceptionally well, she is a future star for sure, and she definitely is an amazing player" is easy to say, when you win 6-1 6-1. But it seemed to me at least when you win and sing the praises of how amazing a player is that you just beat, you're basically just puffing yourself up, because that just means you are even more wonderful and amazing. All those times Steffi refused to shake an opponent's hand or the referee showed the real unsportsmanlike Steffi. Serena is even worse with her "She didn't win the match, I lost it and just gave it to her" whenever she'd lose. Which I actually am fine with, but she's not collecting Best Sportsman accolades either and she's disliked for her poor sportsmanship. Good sportsmanship is not just how you behave when you win, it's most evident when you lose. Medvedeva to me is a terrible sport. And it's not just this latest competition. She's always been arrogant and too big for her britches as my Mom would say.
I agree with you that Steffi and Serena are terrible sports. Zhenya is nothing close to that and I am shocked you would say that.

Remember Zhenya put in 11 years training with TT to win Olympic gold and then when she lost by 1.31 points she went over and gave AZ a congratulatory hug. That was an incredibly nice moment. Truly one of the best sportsmanship moments I've ever seen. Steffi and Serena would have been stomping around mad after losing. Dam Steffi was gloomy even when she was winning. Lol.

I also think the general public holds women to a different standard of sportsmanship than we do men. Many male tennis players over the years have been unbelievably horrible sports on the court. So when Steffi and Serena are bad sports maybe we overreact and I definitely think people over reacted to the final press conference whenZhenya said what she said and and Alina said what she said. Zhenya was unhappy about the draw. Speaking of the draw I also think she believed whoever got KV improve their chances of winning this event by about 80%. When KV finished her SP in the team event both teams were cheering and the camera panned to Zhenya and the look on her face said it all. ;) She wanted that girl on her team.

Zhenya was frustrated and expressed that frustration very mildly by the way. Alina stood up for her team saying they won and that's Zhenyas team was great. This whole alleged verbal scuffle between the 2 is greatly overrated in my opinion.

I think in the next team event in Russia we will have different captains of course but it will also have a different draw.

On a side note Kamilas Bolero is really growing on me. Her SP storm is close to being a masterpiece.

You reminded me a moment I truly loved Evgenia. At 2016 worlds when she hugged sad Anna Pogo (who was robbed of silver medal IMO ;) ) after the score of Wagner was announced. Of course, it was a moment she already knew she's a world champion and in such moment it is easy to be gratious for everyone (and don't mean just skaters, but everyone, including my little self). I was still a greenhorn to figure skating but in that moment I thought "what a perfect sport, people are so nice and supportive to each other."
That was a phenomenal moment when Pogo had her head on jennas lap. Now Anna is married and a mother and Jenna was a captain. Time flies doesn't it?

That was a wonderful sporting moment Zhenya going over to congratulate alina on the Olympic gold after taking silver torr Zhenya's heart out.

Big mouth problematic bad sport tennis players female and male would look at this thread and say you guys are complaining about that othing Burger in the final press conference? ;) Yes there was some tension in there was some frustration but I think it was mild and I think it was a mountain made out of a mole hill.

80 and 8

In 80 years from now, this is a moment that Nastya Sokolova may proudly relate to her grandchildren (deo volente).

Those who like to follow the Russian ballet may know that the respected choreographer and mime teacher at the Vaganova Ballet, Alexander Stёpin, passed away yesterday. Over the years, he collaborated with the Mishins, the Moskvins and many other figure-skating coaches and skaters including Yagudin and Plushchenko.

“Figure skating is a sport, and technique must be present ... But we, as representatives of the Leningrad and St. Petersburg schools, will by no means lay down our main weapons. And this is the soul, which is always in the first place ... And we hope that, in the end, the artistic part will prevail over the technical one. "

Just saw that 4S by Kami..

She really made me fall in love with her even though I wasn't at the beginning. This girl is insane!!

If she can pull of 1 3A in SP.

2*4T, 4S, 3A and I mean she's young, and energetic, I don't see why she can't do another 3A in combination. And then it will be so so hard to catch her on the technical side.

And she has the advantage of it's not just about the jumps. Maybe compared to Darya she lacks a tiny bit, but still pretty decent for a 14 year old and she will only mature and get better next year. It's going to be so exciting.

I really do hope they do a new FS that really brings out her strengths.

Everyone knows about the confrontation between Plushenko and Yagudin, as well as Medvedeva and Zagitova, but taking into account that it is a year before the Olympics and we see three girls with quads worthy as a minimum, claiming medals (and in a year the number of girls with 3A and quads can increase, but everyone will not go :(), then the confrontation promises to be simply incredible if they all come up to Olympics in good shape and without injuries. It's too long to wait.
