Whose field is tougher? Russia’s Nationals or the Worlds?

Russian National Champion is a de facto international title.

And it looks like the rich get richer with regards to Kamila’s arsenal.

But, it’s way too premature to call anyone a lock for any Olympic golds.

Because, firstly it’s a year away, which translates into an eternity in skate years, and secondly, in sports you never ever discount those with the fighting spirit. Anna is a competitor times 10 and Kamila is driving her to improve too. That’s good for us viewers that’s for sure.

Anna is in the shadows and background so to speak. Quietly doing her thing. Count her out at your own risk.

Legends should never be counted out. Yes, winning 3 Nationals in that country for the first time in a generation makes you a legend.

And that doesn’t even take into account the ailments she skated with.
Exacticly!

For the ladies Russian Nationals in importance trails only World's and Olympics. I would include Europeans in that but they only allowed three Russians in so they're disqualified. ;)

Ilya Averbukh is helluva choreographer.
I agree with you! He has choreographed phenomenal programs. But the skater has to be able to deliver it.

Utter BS. She had facial expression absolutely matching her program https://imgur.com/a/24uASvU That's one of the reasons why this program is such a masterpiece.
I can assure you that Kamila's facial expression is NOT the reason most people think that that program is a masterpiece lool.

Maybe I would suggest a kind of intermediate position. I think that Veronika's Ice Age performance and this clip

show a real (and joyful) musicality and love of performing too. I think that in the Cup events I remember and in Nationals she was maybe just a little nervous or restrained somehow. I have been a performer and I know that sometimes you have that indefinable "something" and sometimes you don't.

[Haven't gone back to re-watch all of her shorts and longs from Cup and Nationals though.]

EDIT: Won't let me embed for some reason. Had it cued to 00:48.

Aww that video is really cute. haha. Thank you for sharing

Since Kamila is the next in a long row of these Russian girls, and the pattern has been proven time and time again, I assume she will "retire without retirering" either directly after or 1-2 seasons after the Olympics.
So Daniil PLEASE, give this girl the FS she deserves, what a waste it would be to make her skate this Bolero in the Olympic season:palmf:
It's not up to Daniil, it is Eteri's prerogative and I bet she knows a thing or two about Olympic programs. Bolero is a great piece of music, choreography is exquisite and I couldn't wish anything better for Kamila's Olympic season FS.

well, maybe you should watch the performance then lol.

Anyway this isn't just about Zhilina. Do you think she's doing this "PERFORMS to the music and seems to understand the highs and lows of the notes." ~ 16 points better than she was doing last 8 months ago with the same music and program?

yh she started having expressions this season and no I don't mean a smile. Her girl on the ball program is a beautiful program but she skated that program almost blank-faced for 2 straight years and she still got the best PCS in the junior world. Facial expressions don't dictate PCS points.
I wasn’t talking about a specific performance just trying to offer a different perspective to you saying that “Daria is way behind Veronika in PCS”

wow that's crazy. They are giving her the same PCS points as Veronica Zhilina ~60 when she was getting ~46 for this exact same program just a few months ago and she's no where close to Zhilina's SS. The Eteri bonus lives on.
It's a bounce. ;)

I’m sure Anna would prefer to call herself world champion or Olympic champion to 3x national champion.
Alina/ Adelina are always referred to as Olympic champion.
Evgenia/Liza always as world champion.
Their Russian titles are literally only mentioned after their international ones.
I get you Anna stans want to make her achievements more special, but maybe just wait until she achieves something internationally.
And sure all her skates on the national scene are good, but that’s because they don’t have the same pressure as international. She first needs to perform her best at those events.
To date, she has competed in 3 major international competitions, and has come second each time. Meaning someone else always did it better...

Let’s just ignore that all those kids scored in the same range in PCS in that competition, and some were getting very generous GOEs on their jumps as well. That would be inconvenient.

we can certainly take a score for Sofia Muravyova from Cup of Moscow where she won with 56 in PCS with a clean skate, and just in 3 weeks at JrNats she got 65 in PCS. One could spin in it into “wow, look at the sudden 9 point PCS score increase she got in 3 weeks, what a miracle”
Or people can actually have a look and see that Cup of Moscow was kind of strict and conservative with scoring everyone and not take these scores out of context. Certainly people here in some cases would prefer not to look at the full picture.

Though, one got to appreciate how due to Eteri skaters people started watching some small meaningless novice competitions just to scrutinize the scores her skaters receive, and remembering all the scores they received prior to that. Talk about increasing interest in the sport!
;)

You really don't think that those skaters aren't under great pressure to win at Nationals? Look at a couple months ago, Shcherbakova was skating to be the first ladies skater since Slutskaya did it from 1999-2001 to win 3 consecutive national championships, additionally Shcherbakova was under pressure that she had yet to do a program run-through since she had come down with pneumonia.
