Ladies' Long Program

that's not what I heard. Yuna had practiced 3A. If I remember it right, she was practicing on that jump when she was younger. She just couldn't master it.
You make it sound like Yuna can do the jump if she really wants to. Yuna might be a great toe-jumper but the axel jump isn't one of the toe jumps, just so you know.

Well in an interview with Orser, before he was coaching Yu-na full time. He said that one of the reasons, the Korean federation had him working with Yu-na was hoping that Yu-na could perhaps learn the 3 axel. He said that progress was going well and she was fully rotating the jump, but then Yu-na started having knee problems. So the decided to hold off on it until after she stops growing.

With this year situation, I think Yuna doesn't need triple axel.
Just if she can execute all of her jumps. She will win.

I agree, the fact is Yu-na may never really need that triple axel... Especially if she can keep her 3/3's up..

YuNa is also good at axel jump. All commentators always point out how difficult her Ina bauer-2A sequence is.

Yes, I watched the program again, and this time I got to see the end. And I must say, that it really is a lovely program, and I'm noticing that Mao is much better with the music than I was giving her credit for.

Can I say that I think that figure skating is so blessed to have two wonderful skaters like Mao and Yu-na right now... Both girls have the capablity of taking this sport to knew artistic and technical heights.

ITA!!! That's exactly what I feel now. I prefered Yu-na last year and now I love them both equally. And not just figure skating is blessed, the current generation of audience is blessed too:)) I feel extremely lucky myself:clap::clap:

Mao is absolutely amazing! I'll put her ahead of Kim now, artistry wise they're even, technically, Mao definitely got the edge.

With the jump content she had in this program plus her terrible flutz, in no way is Mao ahead of Kim...

Artistrywise, Mao is not even close to YuNa. Mao is good only when she uses Chopin, because it particularly suits her. No drama, no up and downs. Just flow. She didn't have enough musicality. Lori Nichol did a really good job for her.

Mao's chopin programs have particularly been marvelous. But her SP this year highlights her "drama" IMO. She just didn't deliver it very well at this event. She was stellar at US vs JPN event.

She certainly showed improvement. I wouldn't call it stellar, though. Her performance was not connected with music, particularly steps.

Overall, she is an excellent skater. She is not an artist, though.

So what are you anyway? Do you decide who artists are?
Would it be nice to add "IMO" in your comment?

Everything I say is my opinion, obviously. What else? If it bothered you, I am sorry!!

I will put IMO from now on.

Artistry is a very subjective word.
Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Mao, IMHO, she can pull out somewhat intricate things, like steps, and she has a superb flow on the ice. Fantasie Impromtu can be very tricky but look how she handled her steps with quick, quick music. That is her strength, her artistry IMHO.

One thing though, I enjoyed watching her skate, especially her FS, but she looked so nervous that you just get nervous with her. I hope she can be more relaxed. And you know I'm not particularly talking about facial expression.
