I love her new program. Wouldn’t mind having it for the Olympic season. Also, it’s clear she is still in recovery. Also, the signs of struggle are also here. Not one of these girls should go through what she and others have been through, and it shows.
I’m probably in the minority, but I agree. Aliona’s skating and carriage is made for classical music. She does it so well, it does not feel generic or boring to me at all.

I agree. I actually think this program suits her better than the old one. Her makeup was on the point too.
I don't mind if they decide to keep it for the next season.

I really like this new program. But I just can’t understand the reason her team had her learn two new programs all while recovering from covid. I would’ve just had her do the Billie Eilish short (didn’t we see her do the step sequence for that like two weeks ago?!) and then she could do her new free, it just seems like way too much to ask of someone far from their top shape :frown:

I hope Aliona goes out there and kills it tomorrow (praying for her stamina), and no matter what happens her fans will be there for her no matter what!❤️

The dress and styling looks gorgeous on her! Reminds me of her junior days, in a good way. Ironically I felt last season she had the least mature look of her entire career, while the Angel SP was best in 2018-19. So I‘m happy they‘re going a similar route here.

I like the program in principle, too, although we didn‘t get so see it anywhere close to its full potential. Especially the step sequence - she was rattled from the combo mistake and totally messed it up. And that‘s where the speed of the music builds up, so, yeah, the effect was completely ruined. So for all who hated the program - I wouldn‘t judge before seeing it with full choreo.

I think debuting it here was a huge mistake, though. Too much pressure with a World‘s spot on the line and she clearly doesn’t have the stamina this music requires. Well, she‘s not going to Worlds now (and yes, my heart is broken), so I hope she can just let it all go in the FS. That‘s the thing with Aliona - she‘s just such a perfectionist, I don‘t think she even knows how to make mistakes and when she does do them, she has a hard time dealing with it. And now there‘s so much additional stress weighing on her. I‘m so sad for her.

On a realistic note, however: While she‘s not going to Worlds, the overall performance wasn‘t as bad as I expected. Spins looked better than at the Cup stage and Rostelecom and the lutz and axel were great. I honestly think the hard fall in the warm-up on the combo rattled her badly.

I want her to come back tomorrow and make the top 5. Maybe not going to Worlds will be for the best (who am I kidding, though, I‘ll still be devastated) and she can prepare calmly for next season. Now, I just hope they keep the programs.

She had every right and reason to let it go and cry it out,and I appreciate she could maintain control and composure even with all the emotions running wild.
All the struggles, the suffer and the sacrifices of this year led her here, at what possibly is her worst performance in the last 3 years.
We all like to believe you work hard, you give your best and this will pay off sooner or later, but sometime it's not true.
It must be so hard to swallow.
I hope she can bounce up from here. I count on it and she will have all my support starting now.
I hope that wherever she is she could feel the love of all her fans.

I agree this kind of music suits her skating, but musically the mix sounded like a big mess to me.
It could be polished tough.
BTW, I can get the point of changing the FS, but I can't get the reason to change the short.
It was good enough to finish the season.
(not that missing the combo as something to do with the coreo to be honest tough)

I'm really down.
I tried listening to hilary Hahn but even she can't get trough right now, and her playing is like Aliona skating at her best to me: she bypass al the armors and envelops and gets directly to the core of my soul.
Usually... now I'm shut down.
Seems I need to bounce back too

Go Aliona.
Believe in yourself and show the world the magic is still with you.

Absolutely leave nothing on the table. Or ice.
Aliona has lost her confidence. :(

Like others I am perplexed they changed 2 programs for Aliona so late in the season.
The overall packaging was well sold (at least for me) and I see great potential with this program. However strategically it was way too late to debut it here at RCF and it only added to her nerves. What she said at K&C broke my heart: "after today there's no tomorrow". Missing her second junior Worlds, and having first senior Worlds canceled, she must want it bad. :(

Seeing Alyona so upset was heartbreaking. This has been a very difficult season for her and it’s obvious she’s struggling with stamina and conditioning.

Now, while her Billie Eilish SP was growing on me, I much prefer this new Vivaldi one (as a former violin student, I have a soft spot for his music 😄). I think this more classical style really elevates her qualities and highlights her skating skills, rather than more modern programmes. It also helps that the dress and hair styling suit Alyona waaay better than the previous ones.

Now, for tomorrow I wish Alyona the best of luck and hope she has a moment a la You Young at the NHK Trophy 2020 and go lights out for the FP. Like others said, leave nothing on the table/ice!

After this competition, if she doesn’t go to Worlds, I pray for her full recovery and health, and hope she takes the time to rest and regroup. Stay strong, Alyona 🌸

I am confused. She clearly did not have near enough time to practice the step sequence. Why the new short when the issue was the free? Why a dress that looks so similar to Anna’s

Can she recover from this difference and deliver over Liza now? I really doubt it. Would the fed care, given Liza’s past victory over her and her 3A? Also doubt it. Circumstances just haven’t favored her this season. Hopefully she continues working hard for the Olympics. With no world’s to prepare for, maybe she can go “back to basics” and really settle into a training regimen that will allow her to get her jumps and stamina back.

There is much of the Aliona we saw last season in this short, but it is in dire need of refinement and practice. And the free skate clip... I adored. I’d like to see her keep these programs into next season, to really give her time to perfect them. But who knows, there is no stability with her at the moment. ):

As previously noted here Aliona’s now grown up and everything feels strange and new I am sure. Finding her competitive legs during such a transition cycle and a difficult season has got to be tough. Honestly I am not surprised or disappointed really at her performance today. She is not a little girl anymore. Her beauty has blossomed this year; she’s a bit taller making her lines more extended and, most important, she has retained her signature grace, delicacy and elegance, much more evident today than at Rostelecom. With this program and look I think her coaches are finally on the right track. She needs to know that she has done well despite everything. Hope she goes out and kills it in the free just for the sheer joy of it... if her coaches will let go of the competition reins and let it happen. They need to say to her: forget the numbers - go out there and shine!!

It was wonderful to see Aliona back on the ice, and this programme could work well for her next season. It was possibly a bit much, a bit too soon, in terms of recovery from Covid, to expect her to learn two new programmes and skate them well enough to earn her ticket to Worlds, but perhaps she will astonish us all tomorrow. She's such a talented skater: she's graceful, she's musical, and she's also an incredible jumper. The fact that she managed to get a 2T onto the end of that 3F is astonishing - the physical and mental strength it takes to correct a spin out, not put her foot down, and still manage what looked like a clean double is impressive.

Seeing her in tears made me want to hug her. She tried so hard. She's had such a rough season. And she's gone from top of the world to struggling with her SP, which is mentally really taxing and horrible, though I should note that it is struggling by her standards. She's had errors in the SP before, she's been able to regroup in the free and skate magnificently. But I hope she doesn't push herself too hard, because it looks like she is still struggling with the after-effects of Covid. What a horrible virus it is, to take such a toll on the body.

Oh nooo, is that what she said? I want to hug her and teleport her here, so she can go for a ride on my mare, in the sunshine, and maybe cheer up. She's so, so good, and really, she fought so hard to deliver a clean skate. And, well, she did, inasmuch as she didn't fall, she made each jumping pass, and she performed her spins and the choreography.

Thank you.
A ride could do it. She loves horses so much.
It's the time she needs to do something just for herself.
I really hope tomorrow she would skate just for herself, for the gusto and the pleasure of performing and feeling the flow and the joy in her movements

Maybe she can score around 140 points in her free skate and then if Liza has a bad free skate maybe aliona can jump up past Liza.

But if Aliona has another bad warm up then pull her out of the free state. No need to torture the girl catching coronavirus really changed everything this season.

Without catching coronavirus I think aliona could have pushed into the upper 70s today and contended for second place with her previous SP. So much has gone wrong for this girl this season and that is unbelievable.

I think at this point, she should let it go. Try only to skate cleanly and freely, not thinking about Worlds. Obviously that‘s easier said than done.

Without COVID she might already have her 3A back, she might have won the third spot at Nats outright. Too many “what ifs“. Fact is, she‘s had terrible luck but she‘s where she is now. The question is, can she overcome this? I fully believe in her. I‘m just not sure whether I believe in the people in charge of her.

(Spoiler: I don‘t. At all)
