Alena Kostornaia

Lots of what it's that were not.

Covid ruined her season. Aliona aliona needs a miracle tomorrow.

You and many others don't believe in her coaches at this time. The coaches she has have to prove themselves to her. We all know that plushie is not as involved with Aliona as he is with Sasha. It's up to young Sergei and Aliona to fix things.

I must say I'm shocked she changed both program so late in the season kind of on the fly. This girl can make any program look good if she is fit and healthy. To change two programs so late in the season had to really shake Alionas confidence which was already shaken because of the coaching change and Coronavirus

I thank a pretty clean skate tomorrow could help set her right for the time being.

I don‘t think it‘s an excuse at all. Honestly, this is Aliona‘s Fanfest so I don‘t want to extensively talk about other skaters. But what Anna did at RusNats, while displaying immense courage, was also potentially very dangerous. What if Aliona does a similar thing here and pushes herself beyond her limits, only to end up with severe complications in the future? Then she can kiss her Olympic dream goodbye once and for all. I know in Russian ladies skating you have to take your chances whenever you get them but imo, this sets a pretty harmful precedent. And Aliona has dreams beyond this sport for which she‘ll need her body at full health and strength. She cannot and should not risk it all for a Cup Final.

Now, next season, is another thing. I fully expect her to have her magic back by then because she‘ll need it if she wants to make the OG team.
It’s not an excuse it‘s a reason. I know it sounds like the same thing, but it‘s not. And I agree risking everything for a Cup Final might seem a bit extreme, but remember next year Kamilla, Daria, and Maia are coming up to the Seniors. Even if Aliona gets her 3A back, she would need several quads in order to compete with everyone. This might be her last chance at a World Championship Team. Especially because she has said she might retire after 2022 Beijing.

I‘m so over this sport. Why am I even still watching this? Aliona‘s been a senior for barely two seasons, she‘s 17 and yet this may be her final chance. It‘s not your fault at all, just frustrated currently.

Even if Aliona does not get selected for Worlds, she may get WTT, it's not cancelled. WTT is a great competition.
next season even if she doesn't get the Olympics, she may get worlds. The world team usually is different then the Olympic team. So her career isn't over. It's very sad that circumstances hurt her this season, but don't give up.

This is her fan fest. It's time to rally. I'll start. I really like this short program and her dress is beautiful. And I can't wait to see her new free program and her new dress.

I‘ve been negative/realistic all week and my predictions have come more or less true (which sucks), so I‘ll try the opposite route and leave with a positive comment:

Aliona will do well tomorrow and she‘ll be clean and we‘ll see her smile after her program. There. That‘s all I‘m asking and it will happen. :)

Something that is currently driving me mad is that the apostrophes are flipped over on this thread. They are upside down. Not skating related but I just noticed that while reading these posts.

I love your new Avatar. :love2:

I just watched the program. I had gathered that something had gone wrong, but didn't know what, and was expecting a total trainwreck, so was pleasantly surprised.

It was a lovely program, beautifully performed. It was sad to see Alena cry. I hope she has her cry out, can regroup and come back strong tomorrow. After all, tomorrow IS another day.

Me too -- I saw the scores before I watched the program, so I was expecting some big mistakes, but the first half was really quite smooth and beautiful. She was flying across the ice! I'm not even sure what went wrong with the combo -- if anything, her 3F looked a little too huge, which maybe threw off her timing...?

I do love Vivaldi's "Winter" and I agree that classical suits Aliona extremely well....but a part of me wishes she had something a bit more original and unique. Especially if this is supposed to be her SP for the Olympic season.
I'm still holding out hope for a tango!!

Like you all, I am baffled by the change in the SP so late in the season. I liked her Billy Eilish SP quite a bit, but I wonder if the Fed told her she needed to change it...?

It was really heartbreaking to see Aliona on the verge of tears. 😭
I hope she can regroup and end the FS with a smile tomorrow!

But even if she can't, I'll be supporting her no matter what! 💪
Because as much as I adore her skating, it's really her mischievous, "I'm not an angel!", chatterbox personality that I love the best.

And even if she doesn't make the Worlds team this year, maybe it would be for the best. If she wants to have any chance of making the Olympic team, she needs to work, work, work and get that 3A back. (And perhaps a quad too.)

So, fight Aliona FIGHT!! :hap10::hap10:

May Aliona have a skate she is happy with today!

SP video from yesterday.

She got level 4s on all her spins in real time, haven't checked the protocols, but she really was doing a pretty good job. I think the shock of the 3F landing and the effort she made to stay on one foot and upright took a lot out of her - you can see in the slow mo replay how she landed on a huge lean, her free leg swung up really high and she had to fight to get it back, and then pivoted on the back of the blade to regain control, and had to keep on turning to be able to take off in the correct direction. Honestly, I am so impressed by the way she saved herself.

Just watched her performance and my heart broke down with her reaction.

Can someone tell that girl that it is okay not to be her best after long absence. She is only a (super) human and this was more then amazing and I am sure she will get 100% in control within a month or so.
We feel the same way. I saw photos from Aliona’s practice today and honestly she looked absolutely shattered and exhausted. My heart felt like it was breaking for her seeing her so upset yesterday and distraught today.
