Final Cup of Russia

Did she withdrew or simply didn’t qualify because she had to withdraw earlier with the injury from one of the earlier stages? I seem to vaguely remember it....
She withdrew.
If she was allowed to nationals (which also required participation at 2 cup stages), she definitely would’ve been allowed here. Esp as a bronze medalist.
Samodelkina also only took part in 1 stage too, and she was allowed here and at nationals.

Is Mark a common Russian name? I was kinda thrown off by the few junior Marks.

Ditto Tiffany. (Zahorski)
Mark is just a Latin name. A lot of Russian modern names are from Greek/Latin. Mark is from Marcus, and it probably just didn't drift too much from its origins, much like other languages which have the same name.

Nastya and Dima were not fiery enough. Nina Mozer needs to get involved with more pairs than just P/P again. But hey, she only just returned.

Well I mean, that's a Elizaveta vs Elizabeth type of comparison. There's no derivative (wrong word?) of Vladimir on this side of the pond.

Vladimir is Slavic - the Slavic names still have a different tradition from Greek/Latin ones. For example, they will have a pre-Christian tradition (though I'm not sure it applies to Vladimir), AND that part of of the world was influenced by the Turks, the Tatars, and various Khaganates.

I think Walter is related to Vladimir?

Totally agree! I was wondering if we would see her here today. Nina did say she'll be working with a junior pair again too - I hope it's them because they have so much potential!

walter should be germanic

Walter is Germanic linguistically, I just am not sure if there's a historical connection between the two names. I think those parts came into contact multiple times so could be, but don't know.
 i don't know the sequence VLD/Wld looks similar but my linguistic studies are too rusty by now

Nah you're right, I just looked it up. Apparently some Russians named Vladimir call themselves Walter in English because it sounds similar, but unrelated. Vladimir has no English equivalent.
