I don't particularly see it any worse than most other places, tbh. Most places across the world teach formulaic programs, not worth much or any artistic merit, for all disciplines. Eteri skaters at least know how to perform.
Nothing can really beat the formulaic approach of men's skating since 2008, for me. It's pretty much all the same. They've been doing pointless transitions and jump-focused programs before Eteri even became a thing
I do agree, I also would like to know what other places have non formulaic, original and artistic programs because, apart from a few examples across the years and disciplines, is not like I've seen a lot of them in the recent past. Actually, I find the programs from Tutberidze students and those of some other Russian girls more entertaining than most of what I've seen from skaters from other parts of the world, but maybe it's just a matter of personal taste (maybe the fact that at least, when you watch Russian ladies competitions, there is the thrill of watching amazing level of competitiveness also adds to my enjoyment).I don't particularly see it any worse than most other places, tbh. In the past few years, say past two quads, I'd only give it to Giada Russo and Mao Asada among the ladies, lol. But Russo was never a great jumper, and Asada was clearly at the end of her athletic peak - so probably I'd say nobody at all.

although i'm about 90% sure Alina won't come back next season, i can't help but wonder if she's been thinking about it. this is her last chance to try for another olympic team. from her recent interview she said her training has stayed mostly the same all this time, so if she wanted to she could do it. she still has her triples and isn't completely out of shape. her chances of making a 2nd team are slim but if she returns with her old content she would absolutely still be competitive, regardless whether or not she makes it.

Hm, artistically I'm not 100% this is a good move for Liza B since I'm not sure if Daniil will give her fun and upbeat programs that really bring out her charm. Hopefully he will, since he can choreograph good fun programs. I just really don't want to see another Alena Kanysheva type situation where they give her kind of boring and forgettable choreography, even though the skater is extremely versatile and a wonderful performer.

Well, in other news Sofia Vazhnova just won the Moscow Qualifiers to Elder Age! Quite a nice FS as well! Some of the jumps looked iffy but she's an extremely lovely skater.
Dvoeglazova and Zinina both tried 4T but neither succeeded.

... You think that Kanysheva had good programs before? The programs Daniil gave her were her best in years. I wouldn't exactly call her a wonderful performer, though. If you thought she was, then isn't that testament to how good the programs were?

But, Berestovskaya. I'd say that she has a ton to work on, but also might have the capability to improve upon those things. The biggest issue is that her jumps are way too tiny, can't really accomplish much with them as they are, so they're going to have to address that first of all. Skating skills are dreadful but I'm not sure how great a priority that will be. Spins are fantastic and her greatest strength. Her interpretation hasn't made a whole lot of sense but that's a thing where I'm sure she's going to be immediately improving a lot, since she at least has the capability.

Yeah! I loved the Dreams of a Winter Journey FS a lot! It was adorable, charming and age-appropriate (not to mention the costume was gorgeous). I didn't really like the second version of her The Show Must Go On SP, but the first version with the backloaded jumps and gorgeous step sequence was enjoyable as well. The ones before that... well...
I wouldn't say Danny G's were her best in years. I watched the Dreams of a Winter Journey FS once and I could remember lots of moments from it and there are often times where I want to go back and watch it again. But with her The Earth Prelude SP, I remember the throwing the paper airplane and the music and that's... it. Of course it's not aided by the fact she only skated it once, but I quite literally cannot recall a single moment of choreography from either program that is not the starting position.
I would say she's a good performer. She's not as natural in it as, say Berestovskaya, but with those skating skills and flow and speed, she has all the potential to be one. With a good program (like Sinitsyna's Alfonsina Y El Mar) she could've been the most mature junior ever. I didn't think she was that good a performer in the Danny G programs, mostly in the 18/19 FS.
