Ok wow. What’s going on again.

It took 2 days after FCR for Aliona to go back to Eteri? I wonder if Eteri will take her...
That‘s quite the awkward situation. I‘m no fan of Eteri and I have serious doubts she could get Aliona, with all her struggles, back into shape, but at this point, I hope she‘ll take her back. Otherwise the poor girl will have to go back to training with two coaches who are now fully aware that she tried to leave them... If Plushenko didn‘t care all that much before...well, it‘s not going to get any better.

Edit: I‘ll be sad, though, if she changes coaches and they make her change her new programs as well. They seemed so promising and I loved the costumes. :(

Yeah! I loved the Dreams of a Winter Journey FS a lot! It was adorable, charming and age-appropriate (not to mention the costume was gorgeous). I didn't really like the second version of her The Show Must Go On SP, but the first version with the backloaded jumps and gorgeous step sequence was enjoyable as well. The ones before that... well...

I wouldn't say Danny G's were her best in years. I watched the Dreams of a Winter Journey FS once and I could remember lots of moments from it and there are often times where I want to go back and watch it again. But with her The Earth Prelude SP, I remember the throwing the paper airplane and the music and that's... it. Of course it's not aided by the fact she only skated it once, but I quite literally cannot recall a single moment of choreography from either program that is not the starting position.

I would say she's a good performer. She's not as natural in it as, say Berestovskaya, but with those skating skills and flow and speed, she has all the potential to be one. With a good program (like Sinitsyna's Alfonsina Y El Mar) she could've been the most mature junior ever. I didn't think she was that good a performer in the Danny G programs, mostly in the 18/19 FS.

The 18-19 FS is something you might give a 10-year-old. It's, well, not bad. It's her best Panova program.

I think she mostly had just skating skills, otherwise the performing felt forced, not natural. Not very musical. Shrug.

From Lapidarity, a journalist and insider
"Alena Kostornaya is really discussing with Eteri Tutberidze the return to Khrustalny.
Today she and Eteri Georgievna had a conversation at the rink. The coach has not yet announced the final decision - there are doubts that Alena can really be put in shape. As it turned out, her health problems did not end on the covid, back and stress fracture of the leg."

What does that even mean? She had covid, back problems, a stress fracture and another unspecified illness/injury?! That‘s...scary. I wonder how she even managed to skate at all this weekend.

I've watched it quite a few times and I never remember, but it isn't a bad program by any means. I just don't think it's particularly memorable. That year we were gifted with like Kseniia's SP and Kami's SP and I feel like in comparison Alyona Kanysheva's kind of just... faded in the background? It really is an okay program, maybe even a great one if she was actually able to compete it, but it doesn't make me gasp in amazement (also I still really can't remember it).

I mean she was only 13 anyways. I don't see the point of forcing junior skaters to skate like their twenty years old - it rarely works anyways. And I think it was a great strategy to give something more cute and adorable because most of her direct competition skated to epic classical music/film soundtracks, and she was able to kind of stand out from the crowd. That might be my main issue with her 19/20 SP and FS, it didn't help her stand out. They were both okay programs, like they weren't intolerable by any means, but I feel like they were... bland? Hm, that sounds a bit harsh. But yeah, I didn't love them. Honestly every time I watch them again I'm like, okay this is pretty good, but then two seconds later I completely forget the entirety of it. In comparison, I can practically memorize the choreography for Kseniia's 19/20 SP in my head.

Valieva's SP? Probably yeah. Although I think that if Valieva had had this SP, it'd have been very memorable, too. That's a bit of the issue with Kanysheva I think. And snow leopards as a whole, honestly...

Anyways, very happy that Vazhnova's managed to find herself some success, even if it's at what essentially is the qualifier to the "pity junior nationals" for those who weren't good for the actual nationals. She's the young CSKA most enjoyable to watch for me, perhaps. And actually, if she does win the older age championships, doesn't that mean JGP spots...

You're right, it is pretty weird to have something like that revealed and confirmed by credible sources in the middle of the process. I wonder whether that means Eteri will accept her and just wants a little bit more PR and drama before saying an official "yes" or ... she means to push her under this bus even deeper ...
