Jason Brown

US Figure skating "Five Things you didn't know about Jason Brown" has more adorable baby Jason video, this time playing on the monkey bars.

And I did not know the family name was "Braunstein" before emigrating. I might have guessed Braun, but not that it was shortened.

And the Canada "sorry" mug again:laugh:

That was a very common thing. My mother's family was Sherazen or Sherizen or Sheroizen, my mother didn't know for sure what the name was, but when my Grandfather emigrated it was shortened to Rosen. Jason's family name may well have been shortened in immigration.

Came here to see if people were already discussing the interview Jason did on Polina's podcast ... seems like no, so I guess I'm putting it up here! :D
Thank you! I was able to listen to this while running errands. Firstly, I've listened to most of Polina's podcasts and I get easily turned off when she makes the interview about herself which she tends to do pretty often, and unfortunately, that happens here. The first part of the interview is about Sochi. so you can imagine.... Anyway, I think the best part is where Jason talks about the time leading up to 2018 Nationals. He talks honestly about the expectations regarding him doing quads by so many different people and how that is what brought him down mentally and destroyed his confidence. I know that's been speculated by many posters but yeah, he said it. And then 10 minutes were left of the interview and I'm excited he will spend that time talking about training in Toronto... and Polina gets wound up again so only a couple of additional comments. from him, including reusing two programs for next season, but nothing about training during the pandemic.

I enjoyed the interview with Polina Edmunds ☺️ While it was really like digging into the old sore spot to hear him talk about the low after the 2018 Nat. 😭 But it's good to hear how his mindset has evolved and how he philosophized (is this even a word? 🤔🤪) about the situation between where he is in the skating world now and the current trend. Probably it won't help my wild butterflies in the stomach when he competes, but still, it's something positive to remember 👍

And the 5 facts - I had no idea about Braunstein either. Where his great grand father immigrated from? Germany?
And also now I know that I won't take him to Starbucks if I ever get to hang with him - vamos to a classy high afternoon tea! 😁😎🥳

I liked the podcast, Jason got more words in edgewise with Polina than I thought he would.

I will echo what has been said before though, enough with the Sochi and the athletes say see you next Olympics and no one knows what that means already. it was worth five minutes, not twenty (although the Riverdance story was cute).

and Jason and 2018😭

@MGstyle you would know better than I, but I think the tea opportunities in Italia may be limited. Tell Jason that if Misha Ge can share an espresso with you:love: so can he.

:love::love: good point, good point :biggrin::biggrin: well I have a valid option, I know he loves Italian gelato, and I know plenty of good gelaterias to take him to!!! :bsplit:😎:party2:🍨

But what's this?? @MGstyle - you've had coffee with Misha Ge???? Tell us more (even though this is the Jason fan fest - but whilst we're on the subject - I think Misha would be a great choreographer for Jason)

Coffee might increase Jason's upbeat energy too much to control it! Tea is a little more subtle. I still haven't had time to listen to the podcast because I'm still in the middle of packing up and moving, but I am looking forward to it. It sounds like a fun interview, even if the podcast wasn't as focused on what Jason is up to now as it could have been.

I finally got to listen to the interview, though in two sessions. I agree with Ross74 that the discussion of his emotional state leading up to Nationals was the most candid yet. He's far enough away from it now that he can talk about it. It made me feel bad for one reason. I knew that the constant drumbeat of "get the quad" was getting him down. I had been watching him practice for the FS that morning and he kept trying the quad and not landing it at all. Not even close, My opinion at the time was that he should not try it, that he didn't need it to make the team and that he should go out and do what he does so well. After he came off the ice, he passed me (I was in the stands) and I called to him and said "You can do it!" I meant "make the Olympic team" but after hearing these comments, I'll bet he heard that as "you can do the quad." It probably wouldn't have made any difference, but I wish I had said instead, "you don't need the quad. The rest is great and more than good enough." And then when the FS started and I saw him heading into his quad corner, I was so upset and the inevitable happened. And when he popped that 3A, the look on his face told it all. He had given up. And he's now able to say that. My heart was broken, I left Nats depressed and upset for him and all of us who love him.' I'm glad that he's talking about that, because he's not there now. That part of the interview was painful, but also hopeful because he can talk about it and he's not there anymore.

I agree that Polina dwells too much on her own experiences, but I find that many podcasters do that. It was interesting. They both were in a similar situation in 2014, having skated lights out and making an Olympic team they had not expected to make. Jason did realize that it might be possible, but he didn't go into Nats 2014 with that as a goal. He went in to skate his best. And hopefully he will do that in Nashville.

I also picked up on the note that he's repeating both programs. That can only mean Sinnerman and Schindler's List. SL was very well received and will be again. And he'll be notably different from both Nathan and Vince, and both of those programs emphasize what he does well.

I'm moving this weekend and will be about 8 hours from Nashville. Maybe I'll be lucky enough to get to Nats 2022.

It looks like Jason is going to take part in this Japanese zoom event (per google translate) put on by Sean Rabbitt's fan club:

I like that Bing translate, at least, says that Jason is the "most elegant skater in the world".

I hope that's what it really says:)
