2021 World Figure Skating Championships: General Info

Or did you remember ISU's youtube stream having the same Grand Prix commentary as Eurosport? Sounds strange.
Yes, I agree that does sound strange, but yes, that is how I remember it. I suppose I could verify if I could be bothered....

Oh heck, why not. Lemme check. Back in a sec.

edit: or not. I cannot find the archived streams on youtube?!

They're all still geoblocked. The Grand Prix series this year had the one British guy - I think it's Chris Howarth?

Thanks, I got it working with the VPN set to South Africa. Checked NHK ladies free, same commentary on youtube and Eurosport. Yes, I think it’s Chris Howarth?

It was the 2019-20 season that Chris Howarth did the commentary on the ISU stream. This season, the ISU commentary was provided by his regular British Eurosport co-commentator for the past 30 years, Simon Reed (younger brother of actor Oliver Reed, for the benefit of those that didn't realise).

I would love to have Simon and Chris commentating together again. Because they have a great chemistry , and bounce off each other brilliantly. When they commentate on their own, it just isn't the same. They are each at the best when they have their old sparring partner sitting beside them!

If we do get a commentator I'm hoping for PJ Kwong, but on Eurosport it's more likely Chris Howarth (who I don't mind either).

That said, I wouldn't be adverse to having some PJ commentary. She is great too!

Thanks for the info, I’m not good with names (even managed to get names of Dutch commentators wrong in the past, lol).

Still hoping for a non-commentary stream... just a week to go!

I always manage to accidentally swap Simon and Chris too. But I definitely would like to have the 'two uncles' together again. In that case it doesn't matter if I get the names wrong...though a commentary free stream would also be good. As long as there is a tec box. I really missed that during the Challenge Cup.

Peacock typically streams the official practices, and if you can't watch those, Jackie Wong on Twitter usually posts practice notes with what each skater did during practice.

It doesn't mention practices being streamed ☹️

And Jackie is not going to be on location, and without a practice stream he won't know more than any of us.

Peacock Premium has had practice streams all season long, though they weren't always announced, I'm pretty sure, but were added to Peacock a couple of days beforehand.
I don’t recall Peacock Premium/NBC gold had practice streams for international events were held outside of US. Did they have practice cams for GPF19?

Yeah, this is what I have assumed, that they might not have the same access to the footage the way they did with events held in the US.
If there is even going to be complete footage of all the practices? Will foreign TV stations even have access to film themselves? Because I assume for instance the Japanese would want to broadcast their own footage of their skaters practising, as they usually do.

And yes, as expected, the ISU how to watch list is crap. Don’t believe it.

Eurosport WILL show Worlds in the Netherlands. Both on E1 on telly and on the stream!!!! Meaning it very likely will also show on more European countries than currently listed.

Good morning, everyone.
I have a question about the draw for the short program groups. We know that the order of passage has a great influence on the grading of judges.
How will these groups be formed?

How will these groups be formed?

Based on World Standings, the procedure is as follows

1) the Competitors will be divided into two approximately equal parts with the higher ranked Competitors being drawn in the second part (thereafter called the part “skating later”) and the lower ranked Competitors and Competitors with no ranking being drawn in the first part (thereafter called the part “skating earlier”); if the number of Competitors cannot be divided equally by two, the part “skating later” will include one Skater/Pair/Couple more than the part “skating earlier”. In case of ties in the World Standings on the border of the two parts, all those tied Competitors will be included in the part “skating later”;

2) there will be a free draw among Competitors with the highest ranking (1-6 for Single, 1-4 for Pair, 1-5 for Ice Dance) to skate in the last starting order group of the “skating later” part

3) there will be a free draw among Competitors with the next highest ranking (7-12 for Single, 5-8 for Pair 6-10 for Ice Dance) to skate in the next to last starting order group of the “skating later” part.

4) there will be a free draw among all other Competitors of the “skating later” part

5) there will be one more free draw among all Competitors of the “skating earlier” part. For this draw all these Competitors will be divided into two parts: Competitors with and without ranking, so that Competitors with ranking will draw for the later skating starting numbers

6) starting numbers are drawn according to the World Standings with the highest ranked Competitor being drawn first, the next ranked Competitor – second etc. In cases of ties in the World Standings there will be a separate draw between tied Competitors to decide the order of the main draw.

World Standings:

Well, the judges better learn to not score based off of flights, because Matteo Rizzo's in the last group and Mikhail and Vincent could be in one of the first flights of the second half.
